21st Annual Father-Son Team Classic, Family Golf Week Tees off in Myrtle Beach

700 Players from 42 States are Participating in Golf’s Largest Family Tournament

(Myrtle Beach, S.C.) – Family Golf Week - highlighted by the 21st annual Father-Son Team Classic – is being played July 19-21 on seven of Myrtle Beach’s best courses. The event, which celebrates the bonds between golf and family, has attracted 700 players from 42 states and four countries (Ireland, UK, Canada, America)

Family Golf Week features a pair of 54-hole tournaments, the ever-popular Father-Son and the new Parent-Child Team Classic, which has brought mothers, daughters and grandparents into the fold.

Buoyed by the new event and the efforts of East Coast Golf Events and the tournament staff at Golf Tourism Solutions, this year’s event is up 15 percent.

“We can’t wait for Family Golf Week to tee off,” said Mike Buccerone, president of East Coast Golf Events. “Families are traveling from across America and beyond to play in an event that is about so much more than tournament results. This week is a celebration of what is great about the game, and we have outstanding golf courses and an exciting schedule of events awaiting 700 players.”

The host courses for Family Golf Week include Rivers Edge and the Love Course at Barefoot Resort, layouts that have been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses. Also hosting will be Crow Creek, home of Myrtle Beach’s newest bentgrass greens, Arcadian Shores, Heathland at Legends Resort, Wild Wing Avocet and Wachesaw Plantation East.

Entry fee was $995 per team and included three rounds of golf, daily lunch, pre- and post-event functions, and a gift bag valued at $500. Included among the gift bag items are a $150 tournament gift card that can be used at host courses for food, merchandise and golf, a logo’d polo shirt, a dozen Srixon golf balls and more.

Both Family Golf Week events require participants to have a USGA approved handicap and feature a different format of play each day, starting with a two-person captain’s choice, followed by better ball and alternate shot.

East Coast Golf Events, LLC, a valued National Partner of East Coast Golf Management, has partnered with Southern Dunes, the tournament’s long-time proprietor, to take over the Father-Son and Parent-Child team classics. East Coast, which provides management and marketing support to 25 courses, is one of the region’s most innovative and resourceful companies, maximizing growth for its partner courses.

East Coast is working with the Golf Tourism Solution’s Tournament Division, which manages eight events, including the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship, to handle tournament operations.
