Satisfied Power Tee Customers Across the Country Add More Units

Innovative range technology drives serious revenue for golf course and driving range owners

(PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL) – Power Tee, innovator in technology that drives game improvement, golfer engagement and practice facility revenues, is pleased to report a robust first quarter of 2023 marked by new orders, installations and numerous clients expanding the number of Power Tee bays on their practice facilities.

As golf participation continues to grow and off-course golf activity reaches an all-time high, Power Tee's business has escalated. In the past two years, multiple customers have doubled and tripled their initial Power Tee orders due to increases in customer demand and revenue related to their innovative automatic tee systems. For example, The Golf Zone Family Fun Center (a Golf Range Association of America Top 50 Driving Range) in Honeybrook, Pa. recently became a Power Tee convert. Owner Steve DiMarco and his team signed on for 12 Power Tee units at the 2023 PGA Merchandise Show in January. Just 30 days after installation, The Golf Zone ordered 14 more machines bringing their total to 26.

“We are thrilled to have Power Tee installed at The Golf Zone. We were looking for ways to enhance the guest experience when hitting balls. Power Tee is the answer. So far, they have been a resounding success, so we added more,” says DiMarco.

Power Tee inventor and CEO Martin Wyeth sees definite growth trends with the company. “What Power Tee customers are discovering is that not only do Power Tee bays make a driving range space look more aesthetically pleasing and allow golfers to hit more shots more easily, but the phenomenon of customers also hitting more balls, staying longer, spending more in the pro shop and snack shop, and bringing more people with them to try Power Tee yields significant recurring revenue. When we see so many owners and operators calling to expand their Power Tee orders and telling us they wish they had added Power Tee sooner, we know we’re helping to change the landscape of what more practice facilities will look like in the not-too-distant future.”

Endorsed by 2003 U.S. Open champion and 2018 Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk as well as legendary golf instructor Rick Smith, Power Tee’s patented auto-tee technology has been perfected through years of engineering. Power Tee’s technology yields unexpected benefits for golfers as well as the owners and operators who are installing the practice stations on their ranges in lieu of traditional – and higher-maintenance – grass tee stations. Every shot hit from a Power Tee Bay is from a perfect lie because it’s automatically teed at the height chosen and set (from 40 different options). Golf lessons resonate more easily, too.

A long list of Power Tee customers recently increased the number of Power Tee bays on their tee line. Mulligans Golf Center in Harrisonburg, Va. initially started with six Power Tee stations and, within a year, added 14 more. “In a few short weeks, it became very apparent that our golfers loved using Power Tee. They were always the first bays people went to,” says Mulligans owner Nancy White. “The feedback was wonderful, and I knew we’d made the right decision. So, I added more.”

Royal Oak Golf Center in great Detroit, Michigan, perennially one of The Golf Range Association of America’s Top 50 Driving Ranges, recently renewed its Power Tee contract for another five years, while increasing its tee line to 45 Power Tee units. “Power Tee has helped speed up the driving range process immensely,” says Royal Oak’s General Manager Glenn Pulice. “Since we boosted our Power Tee total, we saw 68,000 balls hit in one day. That shattered our previous record.”

Already this year, The Kwini Club in Shelburne, Vt. upgraded its number of Power Tee units for a third time and Game On Golf Center in White Plains, New York became the largest U.S Power Tee site with 58 total Power Tee bays.

“Power Tee has definitely increased our revenue in ball sales. We saw at least a 30 percent increase off the bat and then we increased another 30 percent the following year, and then another 15 percent last year,” adds Nick Franze, owner of the Tee It Up practice facility in Oviedo, FL. “We've seen increases every year. Power Tee has helped out with the speed of everything.”

Renowned golf instructor Rick Smith became a Power Tee ambassador in early 2023 and considers the product highly beneficial in golf instruction, grooving good habits in a range session, and building repeatable consistency in the golf swing.

“Our instructors (at the Rick Smith Golf Performance Center at Trump National Doral Resort) and I have utilized the technology with some of the best golfers in the world and it has been very well received and invaluable in teaching. I highly recommend Power Tee to any leading club or resort in the world. It enhances the appearance of the facility, is very popular with golfers, and, most importantly, helps golfers improve consistency and repetition of the proper technique,” Smith says.

In the past two years, 18 different sites have upgraded their Power Tee installations and added more units.

SuperStroke Congratulates Davis Riley on First-Career PGA Tour Victory at The Zurich Classic

Mississippi native uses SuperStroke Pistol Tour putter grip for maiden win

(Wixom, MI) – SuperStroke, the No. 1 Putter Grip in golf and the leader in innovative Tour-proven golf grip technology, congratulates fourth-year PGA Tour veteran Davis Riley on his first career victory at The Zurich Classic. Riley secured a two-year playing exemption on the PGA Tour with this win. Riley, along with his teammate in the two-man format, closed with five birdies on the back nine to card a 7-under-par 65, 30-under over the four rounds, and a two-stroke victory. Riley used a SuperStroke Pistol Tour putter grip to drop birdies all week, including a nervy, two-and-a-half-foot par save on the closing hole.

Riley’s thrilling birdie putt from off the green at the 17th hole, in alternate-shot play, gave his team the two-stroke cushion they would maintain with that clutch closing par on the water-lined 18th hole. SuperStroke brand ambassadors Patrick Cantlay and Sungjae Im gave a spirited chase at the Zurich, with Cantlay and his partner finishing tied for third and Im’s team placing sixth. Cantlay uses Superstroke’s  Flatso 1.0 putter grip, while Im games the 1.0PT.

Notably, nine players on teams who finished in the top 10 in the 2023 Zurich Classic field used a SuperStroke putter grip.

Description automatically generatedSuperStroke's putter grips provide golfers unprecedented stroke stability, control, feel and performance. The brand’s No Taper Technology helps golfers minimize grip pressure and quiet their hands while the Spyne Technology on the underside of the grip makes it easier to square the face at impact and start more putts on-line.

“The entire SuperStroke team is thrilled to see Davis Riley secure his first-career victory using a SuperStroke Pistol Tour putter grip at the Zurich Classic against such a deep and talented field,” says SuperStroke CEO Dean Dingman. “Davis putted beautifully and made some great rolls down the stretch to race ahead of the packed leaderboard. SuperStroke ambassadors Patrick Cantlay and Sungjae Im also played incredibly well at this event. It won’t be long before they’re both in the winner’s circle again.”

Non-Bulky, Zerofit Heatrub Move Hoodie Perfect For Golf During Cooler Weather

– Hoodies continue to grow in popularity, but one drawback to wearing hoodies during a round of golf is the bulky nature of the product. They can be very swing restrictive.

That is not the case with the Zerofit Heatrub Move Unisex Hoodie, distributed by Zerofit North America LLC, the exclusive authorized distributor of Zerofit baselayer apparel in the U.S. and Canada. This product is a no-sweat baselayer with a hood, for cooler temperatures but not freezing weather.

Zerofit is a Japanese performance apparel brand and manufacturer of the best baselayer products for outdoor activities.

The Heatrub Move Unisex Hoodie is ideal for a variety of active sports like golf, sailing, bicycling, and skiing. It is a hoodie edition of the Zerofit Heatrub Move and can be worn as a baselayer or an overgarment to provide comfort and warmth with less weight.

“One of the issues with some hoodies is the thick/sweatshirt like material that can be bulky, even to the point of restricting the swing,” a reviewer with Independent Golf Reviews detailed.  “Zerofit is new to the US market with their Heatrub Move Hoodie which is thin like a t-shirt, but yet one of the warmest hoodies I’ve ever worn.  It might just be the product that convinces you to embrace the hoodie too.”

Standard features of the Heatrub Move Unisex Hoodie include:

- Ultra-dry effect

- Regulates body temperature

- Comfortable and light textile

The review posted on Independent Golf Review goes on to explain, “The Zerofit Heatrub Move Hoodie shines in the cool temps.  I was blown away by how warm I felt with just this thin hoodie on.  Often I’d be 3 layers thick at least in the cool temps, I just went with a single layer with this hoodie and nothing under it.  I stayed plenty warm for my entire round of golf.   It was in the 50s which for AZ golf is like freezing.”

The full review can be viewed at Zerofit Heatrub Move Hoodie - Independent Golf Reviews.

Available in Black and Titanium colors, the Move hoodie is made with the finest materials of Polyester (50%), Polypropylene (45%), and Polyurethane (5%). Just like the Move base layer, the Heatrub Move Hoodie regulates balance in temperature right after wearing it. If the person wearing it starts having a high temperature, it lowers the heat to normal. In contrast, when they are initially feeling cold, this base layer allows them to heat up and get back to normal.

The Zerofit Move is comfortable because of the Polyester fiber that is durable and lightweight, quick to dry, making it great for outerwear. The flexural strength of Polypropylene, semi-crystalline in nature, helps resist chemicals like slightly acidic body sweat, identical to Polyurethane.

“As we’re starting to move into the warmer months, I am confident golfers will find the Move line of products a great addition to their closets,” said Doug Zirbel, CEO of Zerofit North America LLC. “Perfect for cool weather but not freezing temperatures, our “Move” products are still twice as warm as a traditional baselayer and allow for unrestricted mobility and maximum comfort. When you wear our products, they won’t hinder your swing.”

Zerofit was founded by Koji Higashi in his native Japan in 2005 and the brand was launched in the UK and Europe in 2018 before further expansion into North America in 2020 and Australasia in 2021.

A passionate golfer and fitness enthusiast, Mr. Higashi was unable to continue to do the sports he loved when the weather turned extremely cold, because he felt there was a significant lack of suitable clothing options to keep participants warm and their body temperature regulated.

The award-winning Heatrub Ultimate baselayer was unveiled to the Japanese public in 2011 and since then hundreds of thousands of outdoor enthusiasts have discovered the benefits of that best-in-class product. Many products have been added to the extensive Zerofit collection over the years, including Heatrub Ultimate Leggings and the Heatrub Move baselayer, as well as products that are designed to cool users down in hot summer weather.

Zerofit’s “Ultimate” is its warmest line of products and allows for total mobility and comfort for a variety of activities and sports with amazing warmth. The Boken Institute in Osaka, Japan, tested the heat retention of the Zerofit Ultimate baselayer and it was proven to be five times warmer than leading competitors. Zerofit is trademarked as “The World’s Warmest Baselayer.”

The technology in the threads is activated by movement, generating heat instantly. The “double-loop” barrel fabric provides both heat insulation and “friction heating” via extra-long bristles. These bristles ensure that a layer of warm air is retained around the body, and even a little movement of the bristles causes friction which creates heat and actually warms you up.

Zerofit North America is looking to partner with pro shops, sales representatives and distributors to grow the line. Interested parties should call Doug Zirbel at 760-310-9840, e-mail at, or visit for more information.

Al Zorah Golf Club Commits to Plant One Mangrove Tree for Every Round of Golf Played in April

– As part of their latest sustainability initiative, Al Zorah Golf Club has committed to plant a mangrove tree for every round of golf played during April. Over the course of the month an estimated 2,000-2,500 trees are expected to be planted across the 11th hole which recently underwent a major restoration project as a part of the club’s ongoing environmental drive. The 2,000 square metre area was previously covered with overgrown vegetation but after a month of hard work by the agronomy team, the club has successfully rejuvenated the area to create a prosperous environment for the mangroves to thrive. The mangrove trees are all being provided by Al Zorah’s ‘Quest for Adventure’ nursery, who are leading the country wide efforts to increase the mangrove population across different regions. Throughout April, club members, guests, residents and associates will have the opportunity to each plant a mangrove tree in a collaborative effort to support the initiative.

The restoration itself is further testament to Al Zorah Golf Club's commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation as it preserves the natural beauty of the region and provides a habitat for a variety of marine life, while also contributing to the global effort to combat climate change. It’s also a unique opportunity for golfers themselves to make a meaningful impact on the environment while enjoying their favourite pastime.

Clinton Southorn, Director of Construction and Agronomy for Troon International, Troon, commented: "It's fantastic to see Al Zorah Golf Club taking a proactive approach to environmental conservation through their mangrove planting initiative. I am proud to see one of our clubs leading the charge in sustainability efforts. This initiative is not only beneficial to the environment but also serves as an inspiration to the golf industry as a whole. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of their efforts for years to come."

The club's dedication to sustainability was recognized in November 2022 when they achieved GEO Certification, a prestigious recognition awarded for their efforts in preserving native ecosystems through agronomic work and supporting local communities.

Sustainability has been a top priority for Al Zorah Golf Club and their latest initiative is just one example of this commitment. In addition, Al Zorah's management team has taken proactive steps to educate their staff on sustainable practices and involve the local community in initiatives such as mangrove cleaning and tree planting. The club has seen great success in encouraging residents to participate in these initiatives, which not only benefit the environment but also enhance community involvement.

Commenting on the club’s efforts, Philip Henderson, General Manager of Al Zorah Golf Club, said: "Preserving the local ecosystem has always been a top priority for us, and we are thrilled to have successfully restored this area to create a new home for even more mangroves and subsequent wildlife. It's exciting to offer our golfers the opportunity to play a round of golf while also supporting our commitment to the environment. We look forward to seeing how many of our guests will take up this chance and play a part in sustainable initiatives."

Bloodline Golf Offers a Limited-Edition Putter to Support Els for Autism Foundation During World Autism Month

– Bloodline Golf is pleased to announce that it is offering a limited-edition putter and headcover to support the Els for Autism Foundation during World Autism Month in April. The limited-edition Vale putter features blue sight lines and accent colors to match the blue color associated with autism awareness.

There are several ways for golfers to support the Els for Autism Foundation through this new partnership. The limited-edition Vale putter is listed at the special price of $279. The limited-edition Vale putter head and Els for Autism headcover is listed at the special price of $159. For every limited-edition putter or putter head and headcover purchased, Bloodline will donate $30.00 to the Els for Autism Foundation. For every purchase of the limited-edition Els for Autism headcover, Bloodline will donate the entire $25.00 to the foundation.

“Ernie has been part of the Bloodline family since he first played the original R1-J blade putter in mid-2017 and became our first ambassador and high-profile investor in 2018,” said Brad Adams, Bloodline CEO. “We offered a limited edition putter last year and the program was so successful that we’re pleased to support this worthwhile cause again this year.”

Els and his wife, Leizl established the Els for Autism Foundation in 2009 to help people and families affected by autism spectrum disorder. Their son, Ben, is impacted by autism spectrum disorder, which affects 1 in 54 children in the United States.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that is caused by differences in how the brain functions. People with ASD may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in different ways. Signs of ASD begin during early childhood and usually last throughout a person’s life.

World Autism Month, which was first held in 1972, emphasizes the need for public awareness to promote acceptance, celebrate the differences, and be more inclusive towards autistic individuals around us.

Bloodline has developed a putter line which includes a high-performance carbon fiber shaft that contributes to the putter's unique capability to stand up by itself on the green. In designing its putters, the company created an ultralight shaft that does not compromise on feel or flex characteristics and also includes an oversized gripping section built directly into the shaft. This pioneering construction enables Bloodline putters to have an extremely low balance point that helps give more feel and release during the stroke.

The Vale putter features:

- High-Performance Polymer (HPP) head shape and construction

- Tungsten-infused face insert

- Ultra-light carbon fiber shaft and EVA grip with an ultra-sensitive feeling wrap

- Patented head, sole, and balance point design features

All Bloodline putters feature interchangeable/adjustable components. The ability to interchange a variety of shaft/hosel combinations and lengths and lies enables golfers of all levels and putting styles to easily get the proper fit.

The island is famed for its history, beauty, designer shops and world class restaurants. It also boasts some of the best golf courses in the Caribbean, with Apes Hill rating No. 5 in the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Atlantic Islands (Source: Golfweek’s “Best You Can Play”).

Sustainability is at the forefront of the resort’s long-term DNA – designed to make it the most environmentally responsible golf course and development in the Caribbean. Underscoring this mandate is Apes Hill Barbados’ work with Audubon International, the non-profit organization that helps places employ environmental best practices and protect the areas where people live, work, and play.

Golf fairways and tees have been re-laid using the more drought tolerant Zoysia Zorro grass and the greens with TifEagle. The resistance of these grasses to insects also further reduces the reliance on fertilization and use of pesticides, with a view to Apes Hill Barbados eventually becoming chemical-free.

Apes Hill Barbados is owned by Apes Hill (Barbados) Inc., a Barbadian company whose primary shareholder is Glenn J. Chamandy, a Canadian investor, founder, and CEO of leading clothing brand Gildan Activewear. Chamandy purchased the property in 2019 and embarked on an ambitious project to redefine golfing and estate living on the Caribbean Island.

Apes Hill Barbados has a uniquely laid back and tranquil atmosphere that provides the perfect setting for inspired living at a pace of ease. There are several residential options available, including The Hilltop Residences, which are contemporary single-story golf course homes overlooking the par-3 course and 19th hole all while offering westerly vistas. Other options include three-bedroom Courtyard Villas and detached homes in Seaview Ridge that enjoy uninterrupted views and overlook the first fairway.

Amenities at Apes Hill Barbados will include a wellness centre, several kilometers of enchanting nature trails, flood-lit Padel courts, TigerTurf tennis courts, spa, dining, and bespoke outdoor and well-being activities as well as a dedicated concierge service, among other top-class amenities. Apes Hill Barbados’ golfing credentials are just as impressive – the 18-hole championship golf course was designed by the legendary Ron Kirby and opened for play in November 2022, and the state-of-the-art Golf Performance Centre debuted last month.

Apes Hill Barbados is also home to a developing range of accommodation options, with a portfolio of stunning real estate on site alongside golf vacation properties set to allow guests to stay and play from later this year.

OBX Golf Lore on the Shore

The Currituck Club

– It has been said that over time natural forces like wind, rain and the power of ocean currents reigned along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Safe habitats, in their more primitive states, were hard to come by. Perhaps that is why, prior to World War II, few people visited the region.

But as with anything rich in wonder eventually comes discovery.  And so the bridges and paved roads that were constructed to help protect the area from foreign invasion opened up avenues for visitors to pour in after it. And with population growth and settlement inevitably came the desire for fun and recreation.

Of course plenty of OBX development has naturally taken place over the years since the war, but so have preservation efforts. From Jockey’s Ridge in Nags Head to the land of wild horses along Currituck, open spaces remain. But there may be no better settings to enjoy the fresh air and majestic landscapes along the Outer Banks than across its golf courses – a trio of which is recognized among the best in all of golf-crazed North Carolina again in 2023.

This year, as in several ones past, the Outer Banks has proven itself once again to be a supplier of some of the game’s most highly-coveted courses in the Tar Heel State. According to the esteemed North Carolina Golf Panel – now in its 28th year – three courses remained among the Top 50 You Can Play in North Carolina: Featured at No. 15 is The Currituck Club, followed closely by Kilmarlic Golf Club at No. 27 and Nags Head Golf Links at No. 34.

Golf around the storied Outer Banks represents an outstanding selection of enjoyable and affordable yet quality golf courses. Lists like the North Carolina Golf Panel’s are intended to tempt you with some sort of understanding of North Carolina’s golfing mentality and thus add to your golfing pleasure. These headliners, along with a handful of others, have helped transform the Outer Banks into an outdoor sportsman’s paradise. Throw in spacious accommodations and a plethora of off-course activities and you have a destination unlike any other.

From true barrier island links courses to modern parkland marvels located inland, the region is chock full of variety. The challenges at The Pointe Golf Club, The Carolina Club, Nags Head, Kilmarlic and Currituck Club are as spectacular as the coastal views they possess. There may be no better location for a true golf vacation than the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Afternoon drives take on a whole new meaning along the coast just minutes north of Rees Jones’s 18-hole gem known as The Currituck Club, now No. 59 in North Carolina’s Top 100 and the No. 6 Coastal Course. The Corolla keeper is the grandest design along the coast “sculpted on the type of land where golf began” among 600 acres of dunes, wetlands, maritime forests, and sound seascapes.

Every time golfers tackle historic Nags Head – touted as North Carolina’s No. 5 Best Short(er) Course a year ago – they find themselves facing a different challenge. Crafted by Bob Moore, Nags Head plays hard along the inner waterway on the southern end of the Outer Banks, where capricious breezes off sound-side waters create a unique golfing experience each and every day. With its coastal winds, rugged shoreline, island holes, seaside vistas, and tees and greens separated by rolling dunes and wild sea grass, Nags Head bears far more than a passing resemblance to the famed Scottish golf links.

Home to various golf cottages located near its entrance, Kilmarlic is a popular Tom Steele design nestled along the marshland of the Albemarle Sound. North Carolina’s No. 88 course in the Top 100 is a wonderful mainland design amidst 605 beautiful acres of maritime forest providing a pure OBX layout with water and wetlands virtually in play at all times.

Located just across the Wright Memorial Bridge, The Pointe is the first in a sequence of championship golf courses — layouts close to the sounds and ocean but more parkland in settings. The course is also said to be the first in the country to have the A-1 bent grass — a dense, disease-resistant strain — installed across its corridors. Meanwhile, The Carolina Club’s positioning as the first design heading into town from the north and last one on the way out makes it the ideal play on either side of your OBX golf getaway.

BIG MAX No. 1 in Europe for Golf Bags, Push Carts

— Europe’s leading push cart and golf bag brand, BIG MAX, reports that it dominated market share of both golf bags and push carts in 2022 in its home market, following the publication of the latest figures from Golf Datatech*.

Despite being best known for its innovative push carts, the figures show that it was golf bags that made the most impressive gains for BIG MAX. Based on the success of its waterproof and water-resistant Aqua and Dri Lite lines, BIG MAX produced over 35% of all bags sold, a jump of 5% and 25% clear of the second place brand.

In the push cart market, results were similarly impressive. 39% of all push carts sold in 2022 were BIG MAX, more than the combined sales of the next seven competitors. 29 years since founding BIG MAX, founder Thomas Reiter, still gets a great deal of satisfaction from the continued dominance of both European markets.

“I’m delighted that we continue to excite golfers all across the world,” he commented. “I love to see us increasing market share and doing well as a business, but mostly I love that golfers want to use our products. We spend a lot of time thinking about what a golfer needs, and it gives me huge satisfaction when we get it right. With our smallest ever push cart the Blade Trio hitting stores around the world this year, I can’t wait to see if golfers agree with our ideas again!”

The coming year sees BIG MAX’s biggest new launch in over 5 years. The new Blade Trio push cart is based on the most impressive features across the brand’s multi-award winning fold flat push cart range. This will make the Blade Trio, BIG MAX’s most compact and fastest folding model. Despite its diminutive size when folded, the Blade Trio will open out to comfortably handle the most spacious golf bags, delivering the perfect blend of compact fold, beautiful aesthetics and practicality on the course.

With the launch of the Blade Trio and several exciting new additions to its bag line that are driven by the needs of golfers, 2023 is set to be another great year for BIG MAX.

McConnell Golf 2023 Chart Toppers

Raleigh-based McConnell Golf’s vast portfolio of private golf clubs around the southeast continues to stand out among the best of the best in a wide range of prestigious golf course rankings.

(RALEIGH, N.C.) — In golfing circles, the state of North Carolina is renowned for boasting “50 Top 10 courses.” And in 2023, led by perennial stalwarts Sedgefield Country Club, Old North State Club, Raleigh Country Club and Treyburn Country Club, Raleigh-based McConnell Golf once again dominated North Carolina Golf Panel’s Top 100 courses.

For the third consecutive year, all 10 of McConnell Golf’s North Carolina-based layouts were included among the state’s Top 100 rankings, including a trio of layouts ranked in the state’s Top 20. The N.C. Golf Panel presented its 28th annual report on the state’s 100 best courses in the April issue of Business North Carolina magazine.

McConnell Golf CEO John McConnell, who founded the company 20 years ago, was also recognized in Business North Carolina’s April issue in a separate article about the state’s 15 most influential golf industry titans.

Greensboro’s Sedgefield CC, a Donald Ross design that annually challenges the world’s best golfers during the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship, ranked No. 9 in the state again in 2023, followed by McConnell Golf’s perennial state Top 10 — Old North State Club, a Tom Fazio masterpiece along Badin Lake’s Uwharrie Point near New London — which stayed at No. 10 in this year’s rankings.

Ross’s historic final design and McConnell Golf’s first club, Raleigh CC, also made the state Top 20 again in 2023, remaining at No. 19. Raleigh CC will enjoy the return of professional golf this year from June 1-4, when the club will host the Korn Ferry Tour’s UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH after 18 years at another McConnell Golf venue, The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation in North Raleigh.

In 2020, McConnell Golf completed a $5.5-million renovation at Raleigh CC, a modern-day reimagining overseen by architect Kyle Franz. The layout lends itself to an excellent fan experience, with each hole in close proximity, giving spectators the privilege of watching multiple holes from expansive and convenient viewing areas.

The Fazio-designed gem at Treyburn CC in Durham was ranked No. 33 among North Carolina’s finest while another Ross design, Country Club of Asheville, remained in the state’s Top 50 at No. 50, following a 2016 McConnell Golf renovation spearheaded by Richard Mandell of Pinehurst. McConnell’s popular semi-private property, The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, checked in at No. 52 in the state, up three spots from 2022.

Another Fazio design, Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, a Tom Fazio creation that McConnell Golf bought in 2020, made the biggest jump in the 2023 rankings, up 11 spots to No. 64 in the state, followed at No. 81 by Charlotte’s Providence Country Club. McConnell Golf added Providence CC to its portfolio in 2016 and hired Greensboro architect Kris Spence to renovate the course two years later.

In Raleigh, Hale Irwin’s design of The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation stood at No. 89 — further demonstrating how strong golf is across North Carolina. Meanwhile, McConnell Golf’s Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville remained a part of the state’s coveted Top 100 at No. 99.

McConnell Golf, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is the region’s largest owner of premier private clubs with a portfolio across North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, including 13 18-hole, private golf courses, two semi-private courses and one 27-hole public course. The organization was built upon the concept of “pure golf for the true golfer,” focusing on enhancing both the individual clubs and its company’s overall membership value.

“Our courses continue to merge history, beauty and opportunity for our avid golfing membership and their guests,” said McConnell. “With numerous recent enhancements at McConnell Golf courses and other projects planned, I am proud of what we have accomplished and eager to see how the rankings play out in the future.”

McConnell Golf is the only individual golf course proprietor in the world that owns four Ross-designed courses. Its impressive stable of clubs also includes Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., and its highly regarded 1927 Ross-designed golf course — current host of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Visit Knoxville Open and a fixture in Golfweek’s Best Classic Courses. McConnell Golf purchased Holston Hills in late 2015 and has invested heavily in capital improvements including a new fitness center, locker room upgrades, and a banquet and dining room renovation.

Pinehurst No. 2 Continues to Lead the Way in 2023 NC Golf Panel Rankings

Pinehurst Area Also Boasts Seven Top Courses You Can Play

(SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.) – Pinehurst No. 2 has once again secured the top spot as the best golf course in the state as determined by the North Carolina Golf Panel. Pinehurst Resort will host the 2024 U.S. Open at the venerable Donald Ross course for the fourth time, June 13-16, 2024. The Dogwood Course at The Country Club of North Carolina and Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club flipped the third and fourth positions. Southern Pines Golf Club moved up 13 spots to the 75th ranked course in the state as the recently renovated design by Kyle Franz continues to garner votes from panelists. Sixteen courses from the Sandhills area are listed in the Top 100 rankings with the lowest being Talamore Golf Club at #77.

The North Carolina Golf Panel was founded in 1995 and is recognized as the most authoritative statewide source of golf course rankings in a state that arguably boasts some of the nation’s best courses. The 185-member panel is composed of golf media, club professionals and general managers from many outstanding courses, accomplished amateur players and college golf coaches, and others who play an active role in promoting golf in North Carolina.

“North Carolina has some of the best golf courses in the country and the epicenter is right here in the Pinehurst area,” said Phil Werz, president and CEO for the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Golf is a major driver of our economy in Moore County and the demand for our product is higher than ever. This once again validates that we are the Home of American golf.”

Among the 2023 rankings of the Top 100 Courses in North Carolina, a total of 16 are located in the Pinehurst Area. Those rankings include: Pinehurst No. 2 (#1); The Country Club of North Carolina (Dogwood, #3); Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club (#4); Pinehurst No. 4 (#12); CCNC (Cardinal, #13); Pinehurst No. 8 (#16); Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club (#22); Dormie Club (#24); Forest Creek Golf Club (South, #29); Pinehurst No. 9 (#30); Mid South Club (#37); Forest Creek Golf Club (North, #40); Pinehurst No. 7 (#51); Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia, #68); and Southern Pines Golf Club (#75) and Talamore Golf Club (#77).

The panel also ranked the Top 50 Courses You Can Play and the Pinehurst area once again dominated the list with 14 locations, or nearly 30 percent of the clubs, including the top seven and eight of the top 11. The top seven include Pinehurst No. 2, Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, Pinehurst No. 4, Pinehurst No. 8, Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club, Pinehurst No. 9 and Mid South Club. Pinehurst No. 7 is eleventh. Other golf clubs among the Top 50 include Southern Pines Golf Club (#20); Talamore Golf Club (#21); Pinehurst No. 6 (#32); Tobacco Road Golf Club (#38); Legacy Golf Links (#40) and Longleaf Golf and Family Club (#41).

“The specialness of the Sandhills as the premier golf destination in perhaps the world, is reflected every year in our rankings. What sometimes get lost is how many outstanding course designers, following in the footsteps of Donald Ross, have worked in the region,” said Kevin Brafford, executive director of the N.C. Golf Panel. “Tom Fazio, Rees Jones, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus all have original designs. Then came the work of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw on Pinehurst No. 2, followed by Gil Hanse with No. 4. Tom Doak will be the next to leave his mark when the tenth course opens next year.”

Pinehurst area golf courses are no strangers to the national and global stage as well when it comes to major championships. The U.S. Open will be back at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2024, marking the fourth such major championship to be played at the iconic club over the course of 25 years (1999, 2005, 2014 and 2024), the most to be played over the course of a quarter century than any other location in the country. Pinehurst No. 2 will host additional U.S. Open championships in 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047. In 2029, Pinehurst No. 2 will once again host back-to-back men’s and women’s U.S. Open championships, a repeat of the only course in America to host that tandem of historic events in 2014.

Vokey WedgeWorks Introduces Limited Edition 64W

(CARLSBAD, Calif.)
– Vokey WedgeWorks introduces the new Limited Edition 64W, inspired by the collaboration of Master Craftsman Bob Vokey and Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill with players seeking a high loft wedge option.

Featuring an ultra-durable, Jet Black Premium finish, the WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W is a unique wedge, especially designed for those who play in firm conditions, on golf courses with elevated greens or multiple short-sided lies.

The sole of the 64W has a medium width with slight camber, helping create speed through the turf, with an effective bounce of 4 degrees.

• Bob Vokey: “This wedge is ideal for the player with quick hands who likes to see the ball elevate quickly, or the fearless player who isn’t afraid to attack any pin.

“Players that are so good at shallowing out their technique can simply allow this mid-width sole with loft to do all the work when under the pressure of elevated pin locations. It delivers a feeling that the best players in the world love and dedicated golfers will, too.”

• Aaron Dill, Vokey Tour Rep: “I started getting calls and texts from players curious about a 64° wedge that they could use at certain times during the season. There are golf courses and green complexes that require more loft or bunkers that may be deeper than expected. As we worked through this project, the consensus from players was a wedge that has lower bounce, is faster through the turf and gives more of a skid and slide feeling on the bottom. It’s a really cool option to have available when the conditions call for it.”

Shaft: Dynamic Gold Black Onyx S200 | Grip: Golf Pride 360 Blackout | Available while supplies last

ADVANCED PERSONALIZATION AND CUSTOM OPTIONS: Limited Edition 64W features a modern, clean look, which provides a canvas for customization. The WedgeWorks custom options include:

Six unique toe engravings

Stamping options | 10-character Straight/Freestyle stamping; 15 characters around the toe; and two lines of 10 characters each WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W can also be custom ordered with an industry-leading selection of shafts, grips, shaft bands and ferrules. Linksoul to Host Inaugural Lee Elder Challenge at Goat Hill Park Golf Course

The First-Ever Event is Open to The Public and 100% Of the Proceeds Will Benefit The Lee Elder Trust

(Oceanside, Calif .) — The story of Lee Elder is truly inspiring, and Linksoul is honoring his legacy and supporting his family through The Lee Elder Challenge on Saturday, March 18, 2023 @11AM. There is no better backdrop to host this event than at The Playground at Goat Hill Park Golf Course in Oceanside, California. 100% of the proceeds from the event will go directly to the Lee Elder Trust to cover his wife’s healthcare costs and sustain the Lee Elder Memorial Fund. For more event information, please link to all details: The Lee Elder Challenge is open to the public.

After standing lovingly by his side for 30 years, his wife Sharon now faces a serious health crisis of her own and is embattled with Alzheimer’s. Faced with mounting medical bills, rising healthcare costs, and no meaningful income to assist, the family is raising money to provide her care, which was always of paramount concern to Lee.

“It is heartening to see golfers and the golf community come together to celebrate Elder’s accomplishments and continue to uphold his legacy,” said Linksoul Co-founder John Ashworth “By supporting the Lee Elder Trust and Memorial Fund, we can ensure that his impact on the game and the world continues to be felt for years to come.”

Elder’s unwavering determination and optimism in the face of racism and discrimination broke down barriers and paved the way for future generations of Black golfers. A Linksoul-chaptered series was written honoring his life and memories, providing insight into his journey as a golfer from his beginnings as a caddie to his historic moment as the first Black man to compete in the Masters in 1975. Elder’s impact on the sport and the lives he touched through his trailblazing efforts will forever be entwined with the soul of golf. Please see the Linksoul nine-chapter story of Lee Elder here.

Ashworth continued: “Working with the family of Lee Elder embodies the purpose of Linksoul, which is to celebrate the soul of golf and give back. We will continue to use our platform and resources to support causes that align with our values and make a difference in the world. “

In addition to fundraising at The Lee Elder Challenge, Linksoul created a LEE ELDER x LINKSOUL capsule commemorating Elder’s powerful example of breaking through race barriers in sports. With the 2023 LEE ELDER x LINKSOUL capsule, 100% of all proceeds will go directly to the Lee Elder Trust and Lee Elder Memorial Fund. The capsule includes commemorative T-shirts, Hats, Ball Marker, Glove and Golf Towel. The LEE ELDER x LINKSOUL capsule is available online at
