Silverado Resort and Spa Unveils New Golfer's Dream Stay & Play Package

(Napa, Calif.) – Following an exciting finish to this past weekend’s Safeway Open in which 24-year-old Cameron Champ from Sacramento won his second career PGA TOUR tournament, Silverado Resort and Spa – the host property for the PGA TOUR event – has unveiled a new Golfer’s Dream Stay & Play Package.

The Golfer’s Dream Stay & Play Package allows golfers to save up to 30 percent on their luxurious accommodations and green fees. As part of the package, golfers can enjoy one full round of golf per person, per night on either Silverado Resort and Spa’s North Course or South Course; play golf for free after 2 p.m. on the day they arrive; and enjoy unlimited use of Silverado’s practice facility, range balls, and club storage service. Plus, Sunday departures receive complimentary late check-out until 2 p.m. (based upon availability).

“The overall experience at Silverado was exceptional, the resort and course conditions were outstanding at this Troon-affiliated destination,” said Team Troon Ambassador and PGA TOUR star Justin Thomas. “We appreciated all of the hospitality; it was a great week at Silverado Resort and Spa.”

Silverado Resort and Spa is Napa Valley's only 36-hole golf resort. The 7,166-yard, par 72 North Course annually hosts the Safeway Open, while the 6,612-yard, par 72 South Course is a favorite among members and resort guests. Both courses were re-designed by World Golf Hall of Fame member and former lead NBC golf analyst Johnny Miller. In 2019, the North Course was named to Golfweek’s Best 2019: Top 200 Resort Courses ranking. In addition to two 18-hole golf courses, Silverado features 340 guest rooms, a full service Spa, 10 tennis courts and 10 swimming pools, all in close proximity to Napa Valley’s 540-plus wineries.

“Following an amazing Safeway Open and an outstanding performance by 24-year-old Cameron Champ, we invite golf fans to experience this beautiful and historic property for themselves,” said resort owner Johnny Miller.

Silverado Resort and Spa can be experienced in many ways; including golf stay and play packages, golf groups of 12 or more players, through lessons and golf schools at the Johnny Miller Golf Academy or by becoming a member and joining the Silverado community.

PING Signs Tania Tare, Influencer, Trick-Shot Artist

(PHOENIX) – Tania Tare, a popular social media influencer and accomplished golf trick-shot artist, has signed on as a PING Brand Ambassador, said PING President John K. Solheim. Tare, a native of New Zealand, uses Instagram to share her imaginative and highly difficult trick shots. She also has a message, using her platform to encourage everyone to play golf.

Now based in Scottsdale, Ariz., Tare started sharing her trick shots with friends to show how fun her sport can be. “Trick shots are good for the game because they break the stereotype of golf a little,” she says. Tare’s athleticism shows in her trick shots, which highlight her soccer and snowboarding moves. “I incorporate sports that I am more naturally good at.”

Tare will conduct trick-shot shows for PING at various events and promote the brand as a social media influencer, Solheim said. “Tania’s trick shots are the kind you watch over and over because you can’t believe that what you’re seeing is real, but it is – she’s that good,” he said. “Audiences will be thoroughly entertained, and she’ll be a tremendous representative for PING. There aren’t many females performing trick shots, so she’s a wonderful person to go out and inspire girls and women to play golf. She has amazing talent and a meaningful message.”

Tare played on a scholarship at Florida International University and has competed in LPGA tournaments. Her trick-shot videos can be seen on her Instagram account @taniatare63. A recent feature garnered more than 9.5 million views.

She said aligning with PING is appealing on multiple levels. “I’ve always admired what PING means to golf. I’m so excited to have their support, to play with their custom-fit clubs, and to represent a company that has been such a generous supporter of the women’s game and the LPGA for decades. We just witnessed an incredible Solheim Cup, an event made possible only with the Solheim family’s vision and commitment to women’s golf. I’m beyond thrilled to be representing PING.”

Cameron Champ Wins with Z-STAR XV

(RELEASE) — Srixon ball loyalist, Cameron Champ, has won the PGA Tour’s Safeway Open in Napa, CA. Champ has now accumulated two PGA Tour wins to go along with one Korn Ferry Tour victory in less than two years since switching to the Srixon Z-STAR XV golf ball.

Champ, the Tour’s longest player, places unique demands on his golf ball—one that responds to his unmatched speed off the tee and also gives him the feel around the greens that a PGA Tour player demands.

This week, on his way to a one-shot victory, Champ finished first in Driving Distance and first in Scrambling. This is a testament to the talent of Cameron Champ and the golf ball he chooses to play.

Titleist Golf Tips: Controlling Distance on Your Bunker Shots

(INSTRUCTION) - When we first start playing golf, bunker play can be a big challenge. Opening the club face feels foreign and the idea of intentionally hitting behind the ball is strange. In the early going, it's an accomplishment to just get the ball out of the sand.

But as our games improve, we raise our expectations. Now we want to get out of the bunker AND leave ourselves a reasonable chance of making a one-putt. Learning how to properly hit a bunker shot and taking our bunker game to this new level requires an ability to control the distances of our bunker shots — no easy task.

Do we swing harder? Take more club? Hit closer to the ball? Ask ten golfers and you might get ten different answers, but for a proven recipe for success, we reached out to Titleist Staff Member James Sieckmann, and he shares his three tried-and-true methods in this latest Titleist Golf Tip.

Controlling your Bunker Shot Distance

Tip #1: Club Selection
In the grass, you typically want to control your distance with the length of your backswing. If you wanted to make a shorter shot, you would need to have a shorter swing. You cannot do this while hitting a bunker shot. When playing a bunker shot, you need wrist angle and wrist set so that you can unload that angle at the bottom in order to get the ball up and out of the bunker with spin. Standard lob wedge flies 10 yards in the air, a sand wedge might fly 18 yards while a gap wedge might fly 30 yards. It’s important to have the right size club when tailoring your bunker shot.

Tip #2: Amount of Face Rotation
Fully rotated open to half open. Face direction of the club can be essential on your ball distance. By turning the face of your club, it can help the ball go even further.

Tip #3: Speed
If you have to hit a short shot, let’s say just over the lip of the bunker, because you will have less speed with a full release, all you want is a shorter follow through. Create a stable platform with your legs planted and the top of your follow through should be very short, as you will want plenty of hinge with less speed. If you want to hit it further, the best way is to increase the length of the follow through. Try to have the head of the club above your head at the end of your finish. Therefore, a shorter follow through equals a shorter shot, while a longer follow through means a farther shot.

Exploring the 2019 PGA Fashion & Demo Experience in Las Vegas

Club + Resort Business Associate Editor Rob Thomas explored the floor at the 2019 PGA Fashion & Demo Experience at the Venetian in Las Vegas. From Yamaha Golf Car Company's latest offerings to Skooza's alternative to golf course transportation, there were a lot of interesting booths.

Two categories really stood out, however: Cigars and CBD products are really making a push into the pro shop. Does your pro shop sell cigars and CBD? If yes, how are they selling. If no, why not?

Titleist Introduces New TruFeel Golf Ball – The Softest-Feeling Titleist

New Core and Aerodynamic Technologies Deliver More Long Game Distance, Enhance Best-in-Class Low Compression Performance

(FAIRHAVEN, Mass.) – The new Titleist TruFeel golf ball is engineered to deliver longer distance and excellent control for golfers who rely on the consistent performance and quality of the softest-feeling Titleist.

Now available in golf shops worldwide, Titleist TruFeel has been reimagined with a new TruTouch core and new TruFit aerodynamics for more distance with the driver and in the long game. A proprietary TruFlex cover provides ultra-soft feel and excellent control on shots into and around the green.

For golfers who prefer a very soft compression feel, Titleist TruFeel improves upon the prior generation DT TruSoft as the best performing golf ball in its class, offering a superior combination of soft feel, longer distance and short game control.

“We know from our extensive player testing that golfers who gravitate toward the softest-feeling golf balls are also clearly focused on performance,” said Michael Mahoney, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball Marketing. “In this category, we continue to see competitive products that sacrifice distance or short-game spin in order to gain a softer feel. TruFeel strikes the perfect balance of extremely soft feel and all-around performance. Our engineers have advanced TruFeel’s low compression technology to add speed and distance in the long game while preserving the feel that golfers tell us they love – and the playability on every shot that makes this ball a Titleist.”

TruFeel is available in White and Optic Yellow, with a new Matte Red color option to be added in January 2020. The new TruFeel sidestamp has been designed to double as an alignment aid.

TruFeel PERFORMANCE & TECHNOLOGY

Titleist TruFeel delivers best-in-class performance through the most advanced low compression design and manufacturing technologies:
• New TruTouch Core: The fast, low compression TruTouch core generates low spin for long distance.
• TruFlex Cover: The TruFlex cover is a proprietary Titleist formulation designed for very soft feel around the green and excellent greenside control.
• New TruFit Aerodynamics: The new TruFit aerodynamics are designed with a symmetrically optimized pattern to enhance long game distance.

Every TruFeel golf ball is made at Titleist Ball Plant 2 in North Dartmouth, Mass., to ensure the most consistent performance, quality and feel – from ball to ball and dozen to dozen.

NEW SIDESSTAMP ALIGNMENT

The TruFeel sidestamp features a new alignment aid, providing golfers the option for easy alignment without having to mark a line on the ball. The design was inspired by the most popular alignment aid available through the My Titleist customizer on Titleist.com since alignment options debuted in February 2018.

COLOR OPTIONS AND AVAILABILITY

TruFeel is now available in golf shops worldwide in both White and Optic Yellow, with a new Matte Red color option coming in January 2020. MAP $22.99.

The PGA Master Professional Program (MPP 2.0) is available to any PGA Professional who has achieved advanced certification through the PGA Certified Professional Program, which was launched in 2004. The curriculum is comprised of an extensive project, based on the specific certification previously acquired by the PGA Professional. Upon approval of the project and successful completion of a presentation, a PGA Member will earn the prestigious PGA Master Professional status. To be eligible, the PGA Master Professional Program requires a minimum of 10 years of PGA Membership.

Finger is one of only 210 women nationwide who serve as both a PGA of America and LPGA Member. In her role with the AGA, she conducts more than 50 tournaments and championships, for nearly 75,000 amateur golfers in the state of Arizona.

Additionally, Finger, who achieved PGA Certified Professional status in Player Development in 2014, oversees the AGA Build A Team program; the Golf 101 instruction program; and AGA Just 4 Fun playing opportunities for members.

An accomplished PGA Member, she earned the PGA Player Development Award from the Southeast Chapter of the South Florida PGA Section for extraordinary contributions and achievements in the area of player development. Committed to service, Finger is also a member of the WE ARE GOLF Women’s Task Force; the Southwest Section PGA Education Committee; and is President of Women in the Golf Industry. She is also a member of The Golf Writers Association of America. She has previously served on the PGA of America’s National Membership Committee, The First Tee National Growing Girls Golf Committee and the LPGA National Hall of Fame Committee.

Finger’s industry experience also includes six years serving as a Division III Golf Coach at her alma mater, St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota—where she led the women’s golf team for seven seasons and the men’s golf team for four seasons.

Born and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa, Finger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and was a four-year letter winner and Captain of the women’s golf team at St. Olaf. She also was recently inducted into the Valley High School Hall of Honor in West Des Moines. Le Ann and her husband, David, have two daughters, Kelsey (28) and Brooke (26) – all avid golfers.

The PGA Master Professional Program (MPP 2.0) was established in 1969 to recognize PGA Members who have made a significant effort to improve as golf professionals and maintain the highest degree of excellence for themselves and their operations. As part of its Member education curriculum, the PGA MPP 2.0 program was designed to ensure PGA Professionals are prepared to meet the growing demands of the marketplace.

Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa at the Islands of Loreto / TPC Danzante Bay Among GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Golf Resorts

(LORETO, Baja California Sur, Mexico) – Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa at The Islands of Loreto has been named a Top 100 Golf Resort in the inaugural rankings from GOLF Magazine.

Flanked by the rugged Sierra de La Giganta Mountains and the Sea of Cortez, Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa occupies a sprawling stretch of quiet beaches, scenic vistas, and astounding natural habitat. While the resort reflects the historic culture of Mexico, guests have access to every modern amenity and convenience—including Sabila Spa, named one of Mexico’s Best Spas by SpaFinder—as well as unparalleled personal service.

The centerpiece of this premier golf destination is TPC Danzante Bay, part of a luxury master-planned community adjacent to the coastline of Baja’s inland marine sanctuary. A Rees Jones design, the golf course offers five sets of tees, ranging between 4,916 and 7,237 yards. It features wide fairways and greens that must be carefully judged but are never unfair. Most of the entrances to the greens are open—allowing approach shots to run on safely—while the holes along the cliffs feature strategically placed collection areas to keep errant shots from taking the plunge into the blue water below.

The GOLF Magazine editorial team considered 243 resorts across North America, and then, conducted an online poll of 3,700 golfers to rate each resort based on golf experiences, accommodations, service, food, and ambience. The results are North America’s top 100 resorts. Villa del Palmar Loreto appears in the buddy trip category.  The magazine’s list also includes resorts in the luxury, family, and overall excellence categories.

Bryson DeChambeau Looks to Defend his Omega Dubai Desert Classic Title at Emirates Golf Club

First player announcement of world-class golfers coincides with launch of all-new hospitality packages with new 18th hole viewing area

(DUBAI) — Bryson DeChambeau will be hard-pressed to defend his Omega Dubai Desert Classic title when he returns to the iconic Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club to take on a world-class field of proven European Tour winners from 23-26 January 2020.

The oldest tournament in the Middle East – and the longest-running on the circuit outside of Europe – will return for the 31st edition next year, as will past European Ryder Cup players Matthew Fitzpatrick, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood and Rafa Cabrera Bello, who also won the event in 2012. They will be joined by four-time European Tour winner Matt Wallace, who finished runner-up to America’s DeChambeau eight months ago.

New for 2020, Hospitality Terrace packages are now available, offering a VIP unique view of the Majlis Courses’ iconic 18th green and a ringside seat to the drama that will surely unfold come the final round.

For those in attendance, it will be a chance to see one of world golf’s most compelling young players, as DeChambeau showcases the unique approach that yielded a remarkable 24-under par total and a seven-shot victory earlier this year – the tournament’s lowest ever score.

“I really enjoyed my time in Dubai and to cap the week with my first international win was amazing,” said DeChambeau, the current world number 11. “I have always spoken about how important it is for me to be regarded as a successful international player and to win around the world. The Omega Dubai Desert Classic was a great start and it will be an honour to return to this beautiful city and defend my title.”

Much like DeChambeau, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic has been a happy hunting ground for Cabrera Bello over the years, who will arrive in the UAE looking to claim a fourth European Tour title – adding to his Dubai victory of 2012 and a subsequent runner-up finish four years later.

Hot on the Spaniard’s heels will be the ‘Iceman’, Stenson, who became the first male player from Sweden to win a Major at the 2016 Open Championship and will play his 20th consecutive Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January, having won the tournament back in 2007. He first teed it up in 2001, where he fell in love with the tournament and the region, calling both the city and Emirates Golf Club home for several years afterwards as a result.

He will be joined by former World Number One, Westwood, whose most recent victory came at the Nedbank Golf Challenge last year – the 24th of his European Tour career. The Englishman is yet to lift the famous Dallah Trophy having first played the Omega Dubai Desert Classic back in 1994, missing the tournament just twice and recording three second place finishes in the 23 starts since.

Compatriot and talismanic European Ryder Cup star, Poulter, finished tied third in last year’s event and will return to Dubai looking to harness the form that has seen him labelled ‘The Postman’ for his ability to deliver when the pressure is on. Similarly, 25-year-old Fitzpatrick, already a five-time winner on the European Tour, including at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship and Omega European Masters, will be eager to add this trophy and complete his Dubai and Omega doubles, respectively.

Fellow Englishman Wallace, four-time winner on the European tour is also set to tee up, as he looks to go one better than last year and add this title to his burgeoning international resume.

“We have been fortunate enough to welcome the biggest names in golf to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic for the past three decades and this year’s field promises to be no different,” said Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director. “Bryson’s victory earlier this year was as impressive as any we have seen here and to be able to announce his return alongside that of six such stalwarts of European golf, is further proof of the event’s international appeal. Couple this with our new and improved hospitality offering for 2020 and this promises to be another fantastic event for players and fans alike.”

The inaugural Omega Dubai Desert Classic was played in 1989 and won by England’s Mark James. Since then, the roll of honour has boasted some of the biggest names in golf over the past 30 years, including the likes of Seve Ballesteros, Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Rory McIlroy, Colin Montgomerie and Tiger Woods.

USGA Opens Nominations for 2020 Bob Jones Award

Global Golf Community Invited to Submit Nominations, Celebrating Sportsmanship in Golf

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) – The USGA is seeking nominations from the global golf community for the 2020 Bob Jones Award, the highest honor annually bestowed by the organization.

Presented since 1955, the Bob Jones Award highlights the most noteworthy demonstrations of sportsmanship in golf, and celebrates those individuals who, in the spirit of its namesake, have displayed character, integrity and respect while playing the game. Beyond his playing career – with a record-tying nine USGA championship titles – Jones embodied the game’s values throughout his life.

“The recipients of this award ultimately tell the story of what greatness truly means, and better than we could describe,” said Mike Davis, CEO of the USGA. “These people are the gold standard for character, whose values exemplify all that is good in golf. These people should be celebrated at the highest level, and their stories need to be told.”

Nomination letters can be sent to the USGA via e-mail to bobjonesaward@usga.org. The correspondence should include support for the submission that references the above award criteria. The deadline for receipt is Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at 5 p.m. EDT.

The USGA is opening nominations to the entire golf community for the first time in an effort to elevate deserving candidates who might otherwise have gone unrecognized and to draw greater awareness of the process.

Notable past recipients of the Bob Jones Award include Francis Ouimet, Babe Zaharias, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Peggy Kirk Bell, Nancy Lopez, Nick Price, Payne Stewart, Annika Sorenstam and Lee Elder. A complete list can be found here.

The 2020 recipient will be announced in January and will be formally honored during the week of the 120th U.S. Open Championship, June 15-21, at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Winner of the Sanford International Used the Breakthrough Golf Technology Stability Putter Shaft

(Richardson, TX) — Breakthrough Golf Technology congratulates the winner of the Sanford International PGA Tour Champions event that was held at Minnehaha Country Club, Sioux Falls, SD. The winner, who has six PGA Tour wins and 4 PGA Tour Champions victories to his credit used the BGT Stability putter shaft throughout the event.

"The Tournament winner defeated a star-studded field making everything on the last 9 holes. He's been using the Stability Shaft for over a year, said Barney Adams, CEO of Breakthrough Golf Technology."

The Stability Shaft replaces 50-year old steel-shaft technology. Steel putter shafts stress during the motion of the stroke, which results in the putter face not returning square to the target line. Stability helps golfers make more putts and reduces 3-putts with better distance control.

Breakthrough Golf's patented Advanced Materials Technology is a scientifically proven platform which delivers the face square at impact. The Stability shaft has the same look, solid feel and weight as traditional steel putter shafts and requires no adjustment to play.

Rocco Breaks 3-Year Winless Drought After Switching To A Bridgestone Ball

Fan Favorite Rocco Mediate Wins 2019 Sanford International Using a Bridgestone TOUR B Ball

(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf Tour team member, Rocco Mediate, returned to the PGA TOUR Champions winner’s circle for the first time in three years on Sunday, with a thrilling victory at the 2019 Sanford International.   Mediate finished birdie-birdie to close out his best single round score of the year – a 64 – winning the event by 2 strokes.  Mediate’s victory with Bridgestone’s TOUR B XS golf ball vaults him into top 25 of the current Charles Schwab Cup points standings.

The TOUR B Series golf balls represent Bridgestone’s most technologically-advanced models to date. During development, company engineers used data from nearly 350,000 in-person ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources, to identify needs of specific player types. They then drew on more than 800 golf ball patents to determine which proprietary technologies would most benefit each type of swing characteristics identified.

Mediate carded a 9-under total of 201 to win the 54-hole event in come-from-behind fashion.  Earlier this season, Mediate made the switch to a Bridgestone golf ball after undergoing the first ever ball fitting session of his career.

“The ball fitting with Bridgestone really was an ‘aha’ moment for me,” said Mediate.  “I never really considered how choosing the right golf ball could have a positive effect on all aspects of my game.  These Bridgestone balls really work for me from tee through the green.  This is the most excited I have been about my game in a long time.”

For more information on Bridgestone Golf’s award-winning TOUR B family of golf balls and the entire Tour team that relies upon them, visit www.bridgestonegolf.com.

Golf Teaching Pro/Bachelorette Contestant Launches Video Lesson Platform with V1 Sports

Leading Golf Video Lesson Platform Enables Young Celebrity to Reach Fans and Golf Enthusiasts

(Birmingham, AL) — Garrett Powell, a popular contestant on Season 15 of ABC TV’s The Bachelorette and an assistant golf professional at one of Alabama’s most prestigious private golf clubs, is launching an online golf instruction platform powered by V1 Sports, the leaders in golf video swing analysis systems for teaching pros and golfers. Fans of Powell from the show and those simply interested in taking golf lessons, can exchange videos with him using the V1 Golf mobile app and receive a custom lesson (powered by V1 Pro) with voiced-over tips and telestration designed to improve their swings.

Garrett Powell
For seven weeks, Bachelorette viewers got to know Powell as “Garrett P.” as he and 29 other single young men vied for a chance to date fellow Alabama native Hannah Brown. Powell’s polite southern decorum and empathetic nature appealed to fans as he went through a host of global adventures and challenges on the show. It’s those qualities that Powell considers among his strengths as a golf teaching professional.

“I’m grateful to have gone through the process of being on the show because it taught me a lot about myself and brought me out of so many comfort zones,” Powell says, who endured roller derby action, naked bungee jumping and having his chest shaved in his time on the show. “Eventually, I got comfortable being uncomfortable and I think that has helped my approach to playing competitive golf and given me the confidence to launch Greater Performance Golf (his teaching business). Helping people experience the same joys golf has brought into my life has become my main purpose.”

Fan engagement, including media interviews and celebrity bartending appearances, is now a semi-regular part of Powell’s schedule, but working at Birmingham’s Shoal Creek Country Club and helping people improve their golf games is what the 27-year-old former college athlete finds most fulfilling.

“I think, in my flat-bill (cap) and Jordans, I’m relatable to a lot of people starting out in golf because I had a humble start in the game. I wasn’t a country club kid and I struggled with my golf swing before I became a better player,” Powell says. “The game can be intimidating for beginners, so my experiences definitely inform my approach to teaching. I love teaching our members and this platform with V1 Sports gives me the chance to reach people from all over the world, some who’ve probably never even played and full 18-hole round of golf.”

Online lessons with Powell are available by signing up at https://v1sports.com/online-golf-instruction/garrett-powell/ and downloading the V1 Golf App. In the Instructors menu on the V1 Golf App, users can select Garrett Powell and Greater Performance Golf. Easy instructions on uploading swings for Powell’s review and teaching insights follow and the lessons are typically delivered within 72 hours or less after swing videos are submitted.

Each Online Golf Lesson Includes:
- Analysis of your swings using the V1 Pro analyzer tools
- Access to send up to five 'down-the-line' and five 'face-on' swings for review
- Voice-over analysis from Garrett Powell
- Identification of your most significant swing faults
- Visual comparison to Tour Player swings
- Corrective exercises and drills specific to your development

“The V1 Pro teaching platform gives an instructor such detail to golfers improve things like their set-up, path and face angle. With V1, I can see anything and everything I need to help people develop better swing habits,” Powell says. “I love teaching the golf swing and helping experience the progression of getting better.”

Powell realizes his notoriety from The Bachelorette gives him a unique marketing angle as a golf teaching pro. “I’m still getting used to being recognized in public by people who are such devoted fans of the show. Thankfully, though, it’s given me a way to help grow golf’s popularity. The PGA of America’s motto is to ‘grow the game.’ I think I have a tremendous platform to welcome people into the game who might not have gravitated to golf in ‘traditional’ ways,” says Powell, who endures frequent ribbing from Shoal Creek members and fellow pros about his sudden fame, calling him “Hollywood” or “Mr. Blue Check,” in reference to his verified-public-figure status on social media.

After a brief college football career at the University of South Alabama in 2010, Powell joined the golf team at Wallace State University and played under the legendary junior college coach Dan York. His passion for the game stoked, Powell then enrolled in the Professional Golf Management program at Mississippi State University and began to blossom as a player while learning the business of golf.

Internships developed into jobs at renowned golf clubs like Shoal Creek and Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mentors Scott Davenport and Joe Cochran worked with Powell on his game and professional development, inspiring him to become an instructor himself.

That was all long before Powell’s life changed instantly by having his sister-in-law sign him up for the ratings-juggernaut dating show that would make him known as “Garrett P. from Alabama” to millions of devoted viewers.

“Looking back at my experiences on The Bachelorette, I’m shocked at all the firsts I went through. Naked bungee-jumping with Hannah involved two of the biggest fears I’d naively revealed to producers—heights and public exposure,” Powell says. “Up to that point, I’d never taking any real risks in life. At least, nothing beyond going for a par-5 in two. Now, I’m excited about this next adventure. In golf.”

To learn more about lessons with Greater Performance Golf’s Garrett Powell downloading the V1 Golf App, visit https://v1sports.com/online-golf-instruction/garrett-powell/.

Puerto Rico Golf and Hospitality Venues Garner 'Best-of' Acclaim

Honors Bestowed for “Top Caribbean Courses” and “Best New Boutique Hotel of the Year” Lists

(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO) – Six Puerto Rico golf venues have garnered the distinction of being voted onto “Golfweek's Best 2019: Top 50 Mexico & Caribbean Courses.”

Twenty of the list members are from Mexico and Costa Rica, meaning the six Puerto Rico courses rank in the Caribbean’s finest 30 places to play. The six courses are:
- Royal Isabela, Links Course, designed by David Pfaff and Charlie and Stanley Pasarell
- Palmas del Mar, Flamboyan Course, designed by Rees Jones
- TPC Dorado Beach, East Course, by Robert Trent Jones Sr., renovated by RTJ Jr.
- Palmas del Mar, Palm Course, designed by Gary Player
- St. Regis Bahia Beach, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
- The Resort at Coco Beach (a Hyatt affiliated hotel), Championship Course, by Tom Kite

The courses are located throughout the Island – from the northwestern tip to the East Coast – with several in between. In addition to providing inspired layouts accentuating tropical splendor and ocean views, the courses are public access and renowned for welcoming conviviality and first-class service. There are 17 courses in Puerto Rico, all open to the public and breathtakingly scenic.

“Puerto Rico courses comprising 20 percent of a Top 30 list of Caribbean courses is testament to the superb quality of our Island as a golf destination,” said Leah Chandler, Discover Puerto Rico, Chief Marketing Officer. “Fall is a value-laden time for golf travelers to enjoy exceptional deals at our courses, hotels, and resorts.”

To determine these “best-in-kind” rankings, the 850-plus members of Golfweek’s course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them based on 10 criteria.

Puerto Rico is an enchanting destination where history, culture, gastronomy, nightlife, beaches, hotels and resorts abound. It requires no passport for American citizens, is bilingual, uses the U.S. dollar for currency, and is the air hub of the Caribbean. There are more than 4,000 restaurants, and the lodging venues range from top hospitality brands to a top 10 Airbnb world destination.

One of the newest lodging choices is O:LV Fifty Five Hotel in San Juan. It was voted “New Boutique Hotel of the Year” by Caribbean Journal. In announcing the distinction, the Journal wrote: “Puerto Rico’s newest boutique hotel is also the sexiest hotel in the Caribbean right now, with a contemporary, voluptuous, avant-garde design that takes the best of urban hotels in New York or London and inserts them into a spirited Puerto Rican environment. From the rooftop hot tub with a view of the Condado Lagoon to Chef Mario Pagan’s superb Raya restaurant, it’s a destination boutique hotel in the heart of Condado, one of the Caribbean’s capitals of chic.”
