Arcis Golf Delivering on Multi-Million Dollar Commitment at The Woodlands Country Club

Fully Restored Tournament Course Ready for May’s Insperity Invitational; Player Course and Clubhouse Upgrades to Follow

(DALLAS) — One year after acquiring The Woodlands Country Club, Arcis Golf is well on its way to delivering on its commitment to invest more than $30 million in the 99-hole private club, highlighted by a comprehensive restoration of the Tournament Course ahead of this year’s PGA TOUR Champions’ Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare, to be played May 8-10.

The investment comes as the club, located 30 miles north of Houston, prepares to host one of the deepest fields ever in the 23-year history of The Insperity. The award-winning 54-hole tournament will be televised on Golf Channel.

The prestigious lineup includes seven World Golf Hall of Fame members, and nearly 20 players who have won major titles on the PGA TOUR, with 30 wins among them, including Bernhard Langer, a four‑time winner at The Insperity; seven-time PGA TOUR Champions winner, Stewart Cink, who will begin defense of his 2025 title next week in The Woodlands, along with four‑time major champion Ernie Els, who has a longstanding relationship with Arcis Golf through the company’s support of the Els for Autism Foundation.

“From the beginning, our goal at The Woodlands was to honor its rich history while investing thoughtfully in its future,” said Blake Walker, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arcis Golf. “This transformation is about creating the best possible golf and club experiences for our members, while ensuring the Tournament Course continues to stand among the premier championship venues in the country.”

Led by Beau Welling Design, the renovation focused on restoring the original design character while upgrading performance and playability to modern standards. The 7,025‑yard, par‑72 layout—originally designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge and opened in 1978—hosted the PGA TOUR’s Houston Open in the mid‑1980s.

All the greens were rebuilt to bring back their original shapes and refine contours to accommodate today’s faster green speeds. Putting surfaces were also replanted with Tif‑Eagle Hybrid Bermudagrass, which will deliver consistency, firmness, and durability both in championship play and for member rounds.

Additional enhancements included resurfaced and expanded tees, cart path and bridge repairs, selective tree removal to improve turf health and sightlines, and restoration along the edge of the pond on multiple holes.

“The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course has proudly been home to The Insperity since 2008 and has continued to set a new benchmark for championship golf on the PGA TOUR Champions, while respecting the history and tradition of the facility,” said Bryan Naugle, Executive Director, The Insperity. “Arcis Golf has honored the course’s rich legacy while elevating it to meet the expectations of today’s game. We’re proud to continue our partnership and excited to showcase this exceptional venue when the greatest names in golf return here next week.”

Since the renovation was completed, Walker noted that club momentum has continued to build, reflecting renewed excitement and confidence among the membership in the club’s future direction.

Arcis Golf’s long-range plan for The Woodlands extends well beyond the Tournament Course. Player Course renovations — including restoration of original green contours, rebuilt bunkers with modern liners, and fairway adjustments to improve playability for all levels — are planned for later this year. Work on the Tournament Clubhouse begins this summer, with enhancements at the Palmer and Player facilities to follow. The Tournament Clubhouse renovation will introduce reimagined dining, bar, fitness, and social spaces designed to serve members and families across every occasion.

A transformed “Hall of Legends” will celebrate the club’s heritage with a modern gallery approach, while private dining and lounge areas will offer intimate, design‑forward settings for meetings and celebrations. Outdoors, the two‑level Tournament Terrace expands the social footprint with sweeping course views, fireside seating, and flexible lounge zones designed for both high‑energy events and relaxed everyday use.

The Tournament Fitness Center will introduce a holistic environment that balances high‑performance training with club-level comfort. Carefully zoned spaces are planned to support everything from strength and group fitness to recovery and rejuvenation.

“The Woodlands Country Club represents one of the great private‑club opportunities in the country,” Walker said. “While restoring championship golf was a critical first step, the evolution of the clubhouses is what truly brings the vision full circle. From the courses to the social spaces, fitness and dining, every investment we’re making is about creating a more connected, welcoming, and enduring club environment. We’re incredibly excited about what lies ahead for our members and the community.”

Bates Golf Group Renovates Logan Country Club in Logan, Utah

In the world of business, much has been said about the impact of an “Angel Investor.”   Make no mistake, Golf is a business where the bottom line is just as important as any other business in the world. It either pencils out . . . or it doesn’t.

Logan Country Club, founded in 1932, is one of the oldest golf courses in the State of Utah and draws on a storied history spanning decades. Those decades of time can build an impressive aura of service to the community, but it can also suffer from the ravages of time, as course conditions and agronomic growth can adversely affect playability and the original vistas over the Wasatch National Forest and Mountains.

The course took baby-steps in its infancy by opening only three member-built holes in 1932, growing to nine holes by 1936, but it was not until 1960 that it became a full 18-hole course. The next 40-plus years were the heyday of the club, hosting professional clinics and two State Amateurs. In the changing times of the early 2000s, it became apparent that the original clubhouse had outlived its usefulness, and a grand new clubhouse was built in 2008 with member assessment dollars.

Gene Bates
Unfortunately, it was not just the clubhouse that had age limits – the course itself was desperately in need of a new full-course irrigation system, bunker renovations, green repairs, and a host of other costly but much-needed maintenance.  Here is where the business pencil was becoming a reality – the membership was tapped out from the clubhouse assessment, and the club was on the brink of solvency or falling into disrepair.  For some members, the old adage of  “If it was good enough for my grandfather, it’s good enough for me” was their way of avoiding the inevitable. Basically, a new assessment would mean the exodus of a large number of members and their dues, thereby ending the illustrious life of Logan Country Club.

The solution came from within… A new member, Dave Jenkins, smitten with the aura of all things golf, happened to be a successful local businessman and made the club an offer that was hard to refuse. He would not only purchase the golf club but would also fund, without assessment, the entire course rehabilitation. An incredible deal, but there was a catch… The membership would need to vote to relinquish their equity position of club ownership. Upon examination, it was not a hard decision. With the club facing looming financial troubles, equity ownership of nothing is nothing, so the sale of 99% of the club was approved, with the club owning 1% as per the club’s bylaws.

The Architect Search

Tom Davidson, Logan Country Club’s General Manager, is not only a locally grown golf industry professional, but he also knows a thing or two about golf. He was the General Manager for Idaho’s Circling Raven Golf course, which was designed by noted Golf Architect Gene Bates. Notably, Circling Raven is ranked in the Top 100 for Resort Courses. USA, the Top 20 for Casino Courses, USA, and #1 for Public Courses in Idaho.

Gene Bates is also one of Utah’s favored golf architectural sons, as he designed some of the top courses in Utah, such as Soldier Hollow, Canyons Golf Course, Talons Cove, Old Mill, The Ridge, Riverbend, and Green Springs. He knows Utah and Utah golf.

Tom arranged an on-course meeting with Dave Jenkins, Gene Bates, and the course staff. From that moment, the die was cast. Gene and Dave immediately hit it off, and Gene loaned him multiple architectural books on golf design and agronomics, which started a three-month planning process. Gene did not think this was a classic blow-it-up-and-start-over project; this old queen just needed a little help and a bit of a clean-up, which turned out to be a lot of much-needed clean-up.

Gene spent weeks on the course, observing member play, building relationships, and employing the important tool of transparency to quell member gossip about what is going to happen to “Our Club.” He became so ingrained in club life, they even granted Gene’s wife, Faye, a temporary member status – Actually Gene’s secret weapon. Building evangelists is a key aspect of any project for an older, beloved course.

The game of golf has changed over the years. Gone are the days of bombs away and taking a wedge in from there. Strategy has become one of the great challenges of today’s game. Multiple tee boxes to accommodate golfers of various abilities, dedicated landing areas, and thoughtfully placed bunkers, where he increased the original 37 bunkers to 67 and added a total of 61 new tee boxes. He even found an additional 150 yards of overall length. The vast majority of these changes came from observation and candid conversations with members.

Two major changes made the course feel brand new. Gene swapped the nines, which completely changed the course’s character, making it feel newer and fresher.  That move also increased the speed of play, an always welcome outcome. The second major change was much more controversial: the removal of trees!  Utah is known for its incredible natural vistas. In 1932, when the course was first developed, the little course trees were a blessing. Ninety years later, those same trees had become a forest, from which the vistas were now unobservable. Gene climbed aboard his favored D-8 bulldozer and personally removed a total of 200 trees, mostly Russian Olive, Cedars, and Rose Bush, a blasphemous move according to most members, until they saw what they had been missing. Gorgeous views that changed the course’s character. Holes 7, 13, and 18 were the most affected by these changes, including moving the entire 18th green to open up an even more expansive view.

For the most part, Gene did not redo the greens like so many remodel projects do. He interseeded the greens with more colorful grasses, and they putted more truly, which gave the greens a new feel to members. Another stroke of genius, coordinated with Wagner Golf Construction, was the decision NOT to close the course for the remodel; instead, they closed only 3 holes at a time – harkening back to the old days when the course started out as a 3-6-9 hole course. As three holes reopened, another three would close. It was exciting for members to get a taste of what was to come a little bit at a time.

The big reveal came in 2024 at the end of the remodel, when Logan Country Club was once again selected to host the State Amateur Championships. This tournament is the longest-running State Amateur in the country and is the pinnacle event for Utah State golf. Gene is no stranger to building courses worthy of hosting the Utah State Amateur, as this is his sixth Utah Amateur tournament held at one of his courses.

To prepare the course for the State’s top golfers, the tall fescue was grown up and in to increase the challenge. This was nearly a disaster for the members’ expectations, as they struggled mightily with the tough conditions and the different strategies needed to play the newly remodeled course.

The tournament was actually a blessing in disguise, as most of the members volunteered to be on-course marshals. They had a front-row seat to see how the State’s best players handled the course, hole by hole, shot by shot. Suddenly, Gene’s master plan was exposed, and a greater appreciation for the course and strategy followed, especially after the tournament, when the tall fescue was cut back!

The Final Results

What started as a naysayer’s attitude among some members toward a rich guy takeover, morphed into heaps of praise for the entire project. While the changes were minimal compared to some remodels, the overall opinion is that it feels like a brand-new course, so much more playable and fun!

Del Lyons, past LCC President, who touts a 40-year membership at the club, had high praise, starting with the straight-up admission that it is flat-out better than before. He credits it to the way Gene came across; he was a Master of Communication, starting with winning the confidence of the members, then the contractors, and finally the owner. He removed the penalties that hurt the medium golfers, added challenge for the good golfers, and showed everyone how much he cared.

Dave Jenkins, the Angel owner, said it was all about trust. What started out as an out-of-state stranger coming to change our course, turned into a design and agronomics lesson. Yet, he always sought out and listened to your opinion. Before the project was over, everyone just wanted to be Gene’s friend. It was incredible to see and be part of a project like this.

Tom Davidson, Logan Country Club’s General Manager.  I have known Gene for years, and I already knew what he was capable of.  What surprised me was that he considers this one of his Legacy Projects. The man has international architectural accolades, yet he totally immersed himself in our club. It was a most enjoyable transformation. It also doesn’t hurt that we have gone from a Club in trouble to a Club with a waiting list. As a GM, I can appreciate that!

Gene Bates, the Robin Hood of Utah, comes to this State with his band of merry men, his infectious smile, and his manners to do good things for the people.  He consistently stacks up project after project, where the golf pundits have nothing but good things to say about him. He loves what he does ... And it shows.

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club Celebrates 15th Anniversary With A Year Filled With Major Sporting And Gastronomic Events

Commemorative golf tournament, Michelin-star culinary experiences, art, music and charity initiatives among the annual activities scheduled

(Orihuela Costa, Alicante, Spain) – On March 26, 2011, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club opened its doors in Orihuela Costa, Spain. Conceived around its 18-hole golf course designed by American architect Cabell B. Robinson, the project was created with a clear commitment to quality and excellence in its sporting, gastronomic and residential offering. Located in a unique natural enclave, carefully integrated and preserved, Las Colinas celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2026, firmly established as one of the leading tourist and residential resorts nationally and internationally, with a track record endorsed by numerous awards and recognitions.

To mark this milestone, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club has organized a year-long program of activities, including the “15th Anniversary Golf Tournament”, to be held on August 1. In addition, the 2026 golf season will feature another major independent event: the well-established “Las Colinas Trophy”, which will celebrate its fifth edition on December 5 and 6. Likewise, on June 27, the “15th Anniversary Pickleball Tournament” will take place at its Racquet Club. Las Colinas incorporated this amenity into its offering in 2025, becoming a pioneer in introducing this sport to the region.

Another highlight of the 15th anniversary program is related to the fine dining that also characterizes this resort. The restaurant il Palco has already hosted two special culinary events featuring top-level guest chefs. Ferdinando Bernardi, from the Michelin-starred restaurant Casa Bernardi, presented an exclusive tasting menu on March 10. On April 14, Alejandro Ibáñez, chef of the restaurant Barahonda (recently awarded its first Michelin star), and José Dolera, chef of Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, combined their talents to create and deliver a unique gastronomic experience at the “Four Hands Menu” event. Meanwhile, Fabio Morisi, Italian gastronomic consultant chef who has collaborated with il Palco, will headline another culinary event on May 20.

In line with its founding principles of social commitment, the 15th anniversary program includes two key initiatives. During the month of June, the “1st Charity Pickleball Tournament” will be held in support of the Association for People with Functional Diversity (ADIS). Las Colinas Golf & Country Club course will host the Spanish Golf Championship of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Intellectual Disabilities (FEDDI) on September 12 and 13.

This responsible approach is complemented by a firm commitment to sustainability and the protection of the natural environment, embedded in the project since its inception. The resort promotes responsible management of its green areas and golf course, with measures aimed at water efficiency, landscape preservation and reducing environmental impact, such as optimized irrigation and the use of electric mobility in its operations.

“Celebrating 15 years is a source of pride and, at the same time, a responsibility to continue offering top-quality experiences to this great community of residents and visitors. From the outset, the project was conceived with a long-term vision and a commitment to creating not just a destination, but ‘a world apart’, where excellence, sustainability and wellbeing are part of the way we understand Las Colinas Golf & Country Club,” stated the Director of Operations, Javier Rodríguez.

15 years offering a world apart

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is located in a unique natural enclave on the Mediterranean coast. Structured around its award-winning golf course, the resort is conceived as a low-density tourist and residential complex, with homes respectfully integrated into the surroundings. Its development has continued to progress with new villa and apartment projects, always under the same standards of quality, design and respect for the natural environment that have defined the project since its inception.

In 2025, it once again revalidated its status as Spain and Europe’s Leading Villa Resort at the World Travel Awards, which recognize excellence in global tourism. In total, the project has received this award seven times at European level and nine times at national level.

In the same line of recognition, the golf course has been awarded Best Golf Course in Spain five times at the World Golf Awards and has been ranked among the Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe, according to the latest Top 100 rankings published by Golf World magazine.

The gastronomic offering is another of the resort’s pillars, with three restaurants — il Palco, unik and umawa — which have helped consolidate Las Colinas as a highly sought-after venue for corporate and private events. Complementing this offering is WOW Beach. Located on the seafront, the beach club is a benchmark during the summer season.

And 15 years of a strong charitable spirit

Over the past 15 years, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club has stood out for its strong social commitment. Among the initiatives carried out is the creation in Callosa de Segura of an inclusive football school for children and young people with intellectual disabilities, in collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation.

It also maintains ongoing support programs with the Association of Relatives of People with Alzheimer’s (AFA) in Torrevieja and with the Association for People with Functional Diversity (ADIS), which awarded Las Colinas the Corporate Social Responsibility Prize in 2023.

Furthermore, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is the first and only golf resort in Spain to hold the Brain-Protected Space certification, which certifies that all staff have received specific training to act effectively in the event of a possible stroke, thereby reinforcing its commitment to the health and wellbeing of both employees and guests.

Capital Canyon Club to Unveil New $1.3M Practice Facility on April 30

(Prescott, Ariz.)
– Capital Canyon Club in Prescott, Ariz. will celebrate the grand opening of a new $1.3 million dollar practice facility on Thursday, April 30. “The Homestead” – named after Club owners Jerre and Mary Joy Stead – was designed by golf course architect Phil Smith and features a 19,000 square-foot putting course and a 4,000 square-foot practice green for chipping and putting.

The 19,000 square-foot putting green will split into a 9-hole putting course and a normal practice putting green with green speeds maintained to simulate course conditions on the Club’s 18-hole Tom Weiskopf Signature Design. The Homestead is located north of the clubhouse and took four months to complete. With numerous arroyos, canyons and rock formations to navigate, construction crews from Landscapes Unlimited took special care to blend the new practice facility in with its natural surroundings.

“We’re really excited to share the addition of our new short game practice area as it’s something we know will make a big difference for our golf members,” said Capital Canyon Club General Manager Christopher Morris. “As any golfer knows, the short game is where scores are made or saved. Having a dedicated space to work on chipping, pitching, bunker shots, and putting gives everyone a chance to sharpen those skills in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Whether you’re trying to knock a few strokes off your round or just enjoy some extra time on the course, this new area is designed with you in mind.”

The addition of The Homestead reflects the Stead’s commitment to investing in the Club to enhance the overall member experience. Additional enhancements are planned throughout the Club to continue to add value to the membership.

“We’re proud of how The Homestead turned out and hope it becomes a place where members can not only improve but also spend time with friends and enjoy everything that makes Capital Canyon special,” added Morris.

Capital Canyon Club originally opened in 1997 as Hassayampa Golf Club. In 2014, Jerre and Mary Joy Stead purchased the Club and rebranded it to Capital Canyon Club as a testament to Prescott's rich history. “Capital” as Prescott was the first territorial capital of Arizona, and “Canyon” in commemoration of the Grand Canyon State. Today Capital Canyon is Prescott's premier golf and social club.

Capital Canyon Club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club division of Troon. Qualified Club members enjoy reciprocal play at private clubs around the world through the Troon Privé Privilege program, For more information on the Capital Canyon Club visit www.capitalcanyonclub.com.

Champions Retreat Golf Club reimagines the club experience with multi-million-dollar transformation

Phase one delivers new dining venues, culinary upgrades, and refreshed amenities; Course and practice facility enhancements underway for fall 2026 completion

(Evans, Georgia) — Champions Retreat Golf Club—the only property in the world featuring individually designed courses by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player—has completed the first phase of a multi-million-dollar campus transformation. Phase One delivers reimagined dining, social, and hospitality spaces. including three newly conceived venues within the Grille House. Phase Two golf course and practice facility upgrades are underway and targeted for completion this fall.

Acquired by Arcis Golf in 2023, Champions Retreat is taking a significant step forward in enhancing the member and guest experience while honoring the club’s deep connection to championship golf and Southern hospitality.

“With this first phase of renovations, we’re not just updating spaces—we’re creating a sense of place that honors our heritage and elevates every moment on property,” said Blake Walker, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arcis Golf. “This is only the beginning, as we look ahead to even greater enhancements in the months to come.”

At the heart of the recent renovations is the Grille House, reintroduced as three distinct and imaginatively designed venues.

· The upstairs of the Grille House has been reborn as Three Kings, a members-only speakeasy honoring Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player. Designed to evoke a classic, prohibition lounge, Three Kings is approached via a hidden stairway entrance. This gathering place is designed to promote post‑round conversation and camaraderie.

· A newly renovated Private Dining Room will serve as an intimate extension of the main dining area in the Grille House. The space features custom-built wine displays, showcasing extraordinary collections of wine, plus increased seating.

· Downstairs, the Champions Room now serves as the primary dining and bar area. The fully reimagined Champions Room is themed around the club’s rich architecture and heritage, with custom-designed trophy display cabinets lining the walls.

· Nearby, The Barn has been redecorated with furnishings and an atmosphere that can accommodate any special occasion with a variety of exciting culinary options. The Barn kitchen remodel will commence this summer, and upon completion will offer an open space “culinary laboratory” and a new bar in the pre-function and private dining spaces.

Beyond dining, a new concierge and cottage check‑in area in the Locker House welcomes arriving members in a luxury setting, befitting a private club with both local and national members. Champions Retreat opens to the public one week each spring, offering outside guests a rare opportunity to play its golf courses and partake in distinctive hospitality.

For most of the year, club life revolves around the Foursquare, a collection of well-appointed cottages and gathering spaces. The club offers 84 rooms in 14 unique cottages consisting of four- and eight-bedroom ensuite configurations for use by members and guests.

Phase Two

While the current renovations mark a major milestone, Champions Retreat’s evolution is far from complete. Phase Two extends beyond the clubhouse, focusing on the golf course, practice facilities, and expanded outdoor amenities to enhance daily member play and championship-hosting capabilities.

Course updates include bunker renovations across all three nines; major improvements to the practice facility and short‑game area; and the addition of new putting greens, including a warm‑up putting course north of The Barn.

Golfers can also look forward to a Trackman‑equipped driving range with covered hitting bays, a new halfway house serving both on‑course players and practice‑facility guests, and an indoor racquet sports facility.

Together, these investments underscore Champions Retreat Golf Club’s ongoing commitment to honoring the game’s traditions while continually delivering southern hospitality in a superior setting for members and guests.

Drafting LIV Golfers to the PGA TOUR

If the PGA TOUR ever decided to settle its cold war with LIV Golf via something as delightfully American as a draft, you’d have chaos, strategy, and a whole lot of second-guessing.

Imagine it: team captains, front offices, analytics departments—all trying to rebuild their rosters overnight by selecting from LIV’s star-studded (and polarizing) talent pool. Form, fit, marketability, and upside would all matter. But one question would dominate draft night:

Who goes No. 1 — Jon Rahm or Bryson DeChambeau?

The No. 1 Debate: Rahm vs. Bryson

Jon Rahm is the safe pick—and in drafts, “safe” often means “correct.” A major champion, consistently elite tee-to-green, and still very much in his prime, Rahm brings week-to-week reliability. Even since jumping to LIV, his form has remained sharp, and his temperament fits the grind of the PGA TOUR’s traditional structure.

Bryson DeChambeau, on the other hand, is the ultimate ceiling play. When he’s on, he’s transformative—redefining distance, reshaping course strategy, and commanding attention. His recent resurgence in majors has reminded everyone that his game travels beyond LIV’s limited format.

Verdict: Rahm likely goes No. 1. He’s the franchise cornerstone—less volatility, more certainty. But Bryson would make it a debate in every war room.

Mock Draft: Picks 1–10

1. Jon Rahm (Rating: 9.5/10)

Still the franchise anchor. Elite across every metric that matters.

2. Bryson DeChambeau (Rating: 9/10)

Game-breaking upside. A team built around Bryson is betting on intimidation and innovation.

3. Cameron Smith (Rating: 9/10)

Cameron Smith slides comfortably into the top three. Short game wizardry and composure make him a captain’s dream.

4. Joaquin Niemann (Rating: 8.5/10)

Joaquín Niemann jumps up. Arguably the purest ball-striker in this field with room to grow.

5. Dustin Johnson (Rating: 8/10)

Dustin Johnson climbs a spot. Less dominant than his peak, but still incredibly dangerous.

6. Tyrrell Hatton (Rating: 8/10)

Tyrrell Hatton thrives in difficult conditions. Brings intensity and consistency.

7. Talor Gooch (Rating: 7.5/10)

Talor Gooch continues his rise. One of the steadiest performers coming out of LIV.

8. Louis Oosthuizen (Rating: 7.5/10)

Louis Oosthuizen offers elite ball-striking and major pedigree—if health cooperates.

9. Abraham Ancer (Rating: 7/10)

Abraham Ancer is accurate, composed, and well-suited for tighter PGA TOUR setups.

10. Paul Casey (Rating: 7/10)

Paul Casey rounds it out with veteran reliability and strong tee-to-green play.

What This Draft Reveals

A hypothetical draft like this highlights the philosophical divide between the two tours. The PGA TOUR prioritizes depth, consistency, and adaptability across a long season. LIV Golf has leaned into star power and short-burst performance.

In a blended ecosystem, those values collide. Rahm represents stability. Bryson represents disruption.

And if this draft were real? The team that picks correctly at No. 1 wouldn’t just win the night—they’d shape the future of professional golf.

Bevvy Covers Officially Launches, Introducing a Bold, Personality-Driven Approach to Golf Headcovers

Woman-owned brand founded by Bevin Wallace blends craftsmanship, humor, and performance to redefine on-course style

(Denver, CO) — Bevvy Covers, a new woman-owned golf accessories brand, today announced its official launch, bringing a fresh, personality-forward perspective to the game through premium, handcrafted headcovers.

Founded by entrepreneur and avid golfer Bevin Wallace, the brand is rooted in a simple idea: golf gear should reflect who you are, not just how you play. Born from a lifelong connection to the game and a professional background in relationship-driven sales, Wallace’s journey to launching Bevvy Covers is a testament to entrepreneurial spirit and creative problem-solving.

Bevvy Covers enters the market at a time when golf culture continues to evolve, with players increasingly seeking ways to express themselves both on and off the course. The brand’s launch showcases this broader shift toward individuality, creativity and inclusivity within the game, values that are central to Wallace’s vision.

What began as time spent on the course hosting clients, and later playing more frequently with family after stepping away from corporate life, evolved into a hands-on passion for design and craftsmanship.

“When I couldn’t find headcovers that felt like me — something elevated, unique and fun — I decided to try making my own,” said Wallace. “That sparked something. What started as a creative outlet quickly became an obsession with getting every detail just right.”

This passion now defines Bevvy Covers, where each product is thoughtfully designed and carefully constructed to balance style with performance, offering golfers a durable, protective solution that doesn’t sacrifice individuality. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, inside jokes shared on the course, and the camaraderie that defines the game, Bevvy’s designs bring a sense of humor and authenticity to a category often dominated by tradition.

As a perfectionist by nature, Wallace is building the brand around a commitment to quality and intentional design, ensuring every stitch reflects the care and attention behind it.

“Our goal is to create products that make people smile while also delivering the protection your clubs deserve,” Wallace added. “Golf has given me so many meaningful moments with family and friends, and Bevvy is my way of bringing more personality and joy to that experience.”

The Three Greatest Golf Movies Ever Made

By the time the credits roll, these films prove golf is anything but a quiet game.

Golf has a reputation problem. To outsiders, it’s slow, polite, maybe even a little sleepy. But Hollywood has spent decades trying to rewrite that narrative—and at its best, it’s succeeded. The greatest golf films don’t just capture the sport; they bottle its obsession, its absurdity, and its occasional magic.

Here are the three movies that define golf on screen—and why they still matter.

1. Caddyshack — Chaos Wins

If golf has a comedic soul, this is it.

Released in 1980, Caddyshack didn’t just poke fun at country club culture—it detonated it. The film is less about competition and more about class clashes, ego, and pure nonsense. Chevy Chase plays it cool, Rodney Dangerfield plays it loud, and Bill Murray… well, he plays it completely unhinged.

And yet, beneath the anarchy, there’s something true about golf here. The game has always been a social battleground as much as a sport. Status, money, belonging—it’s all in play before the first tee shot.

Four decades later, Caddyshack remains the most quoted golf movie ever made—and arguably the most influential.

2. Tin Cup — The Beauty of the Blow-Up

Where Caddyshack is chaos, Tin Cup is heartbreak.

Kevin Costner stars as Roy McAvoy, a gifted but self-destructive golfer chasing one last shot at greatness. Unlike most sports films, this one understands the quiet cruelty of golf—the way a single decision can define everything.

The film’s climax is legendary: a final-hole gamble that turns into a slow-motion unraveling. It’s not just drama; it’s psychology. Every golfer who’s ever refused to “lay up” sees themselves in that moment.

Tin Cup doesn’t just show golf—it understands why people can’t quit it.

3. Happy Gilmore — The Game Gets Loud

Golf had never seen anything like Happy Gilmore—and it hasn’t since.

Adam Sandler plays a failed hockey player who stumbles into golf with a slapshot swing and a short fuse. It’s ridiculous from the opening scene, but that’s the point. Happy Gilmore drags golf out of its quiet, buttoned-up world and injects it with chaos, noise, and attitude.

Purists rolled their eyes. Everyone else loved it.

More importantly, it brought new fans into the game—kids who didn’t see themselves in country clubs but suddenly saw golf as something they could crash.

Final Word

Together, these three films tell the full story of golf:

Caddyshack shows its absurdity

Tin Cup reveals its obsession

Happy Gilmore proves it can evolve

Golf may be played in silence—but on screen, it’s never been louder.

Mountain Lake Begins Restoration Project to Its Historic Golf Course

Tyler Rae to Lead Six-Month Project Rebuilding Greens, Restoring Bunkers and Enhancing Iconic Holes to Its Original Seth Raynor Design

(LAKE WALES, Fla.) – Mountain Lake, a residential community located in central Florida’s lake district, has officially started the extensive restoration project of its Seth Raynor-designed golf course.

The project, led by renowned course architect Tyler Rae, will focus on three main components: the reconstruction and redesign of the putting surfaces, design enhancements for every hole using archival photos and newly discovered historic information about the course, and the restoration and placement of bunkers.

Rae, who was the lead architect at courses in New York, Illinois and South Carolina, has restored other Seth Raynor original designs at Lookout Mountain Club in Georgia and Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club in Rhode Island.

The multi-million-dollar restoration project began on April 20 and has shut down the golf course. The golf course will reopen in November 2026. NMP Golf Course Construction Corp. from Williston, Vt. is the general contractor.

“Any work on the golf course must first and foremost be work that will enhance enjoyment and playability for our members,” says General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Eric von Hofen. “Viewing this infrastructure-driven renovation project through the lens of Seth Raynor’s vision for Mountain Lake will set the community up for its next 100 years.”

A major aspect of the golf course restoration plan will focus on modernizing and improving the greens and bunkers. Many of the current greens were built in the early 2000s as part of a redesign project and were nearing the end of their functional life. The materials in the subsurface layers of the greens have gradually hardened over time, which has limited drainage. In addition to updating the infrastructure, changes will be made to the TifEagle Bermuda putting surfaces to match the sizes, shapes and characteristics shown in historical photos. There have also been underlying issues with the bunkers; therefore, they will be updated to help manage the rising costs of repairs and maintenance.

In evaluating the design enhancements for the course, Mountain Lake reviewed historical information, which included Raynor’s 1915 sketch of the first nine holes, revision drawings dating back to 1929 from Raynor’s protégé Charles Banks, an engineering drawing from 1935 and aerial photographs of the grounds from 1941. Rae and his design team meticulously studied these documents, which offered insights into the golf course’s evolution from its inception to its current state.

Notable design enhancements include:

Recreating the original punch bowl green at the third hole that was seen in Raynor’s 1915 routing and in early 1917 photos.

Reconfiguring the fairway bunkering at the fourth hole to match the design seen in Raynor’s 1915 routing. A large, dominant bunker on the left will replace the multiple ones currently found on that side, forcing golfers to decide how much they want to bite off from the tee.

Moving the sixth green more than 20 yards to the right to open up views of the green from the tee.

Rebuilding the greenside bunkers at No. 11 to make them more sizable and dramatic, which will make this Redan hole truly one of a kind.

Dubbed the “Road Hole,” the 13th will feature reconstructed bunkers aimed at promoting strategy off the tee. A fairway bunker about 100 yards from the green also will be recreated, emulating the strategy and location of the Scholar’s / Progressing bunker complex on the original Road Hole at The Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.

The green on the finishing hole will be restored to its original concept as seen in Raynor’s 1915 routing. It will feature a large false front and a kidney shape surrounding a deep right bunker.

Relandscaping many key areas on the golf course with native Live oak trees, grasses and native plants will also be a priority. These plantings will add texture and depth to the golf experience.

“The goal of this project is not to reinvent the golf course; rather, we will take the most current iteration of the course and make it better, while also paying homage to Seth Raynor’s original design,” says Rae. “This restoration project will maintain the playability of the golf course, as well as emphasize and reintroduce the features of the golf course that will make Mountain Lake a stalwart on Top 100 lists for many years to come.”

Founded in 1915 and designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., Mountain Lake spans over 1,000 acres of rolling hills and numerous lakes, offering panoramic views of the surrounding central Florida landscape and neighboring Bok Tower Gardens. The secured enclave boasts a wide assortment of residences, including historic homes built by legendary architects for some of the country’s most recognizable names. Current homeowners are stewards of their home’s history while maintaining the captivating exterior of these charming residences and updating the interior with accoutrements and furnishings.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Colony House is the social hub for the community, offering sophisticated dining options in 1916 and casual cookouts by the pool. A fitness center, library, 37 guest suites and full-service concierge services also are available at the Colony House, with croquet lawns situated just steps away and a racquet sports facility located to the right of the first fairway. Mountain Lake also boasts a shooting range nestled in an old clay mine on the outskirts of the community.

Cobbs Creek Foundation and Lincoln Financial celebrate grand opening of Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek

(Philadelphia, Pa.)
– The Cobbs Creek Foundation and Lincoln Financial today celebrated the grand opening of the Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek and launched the first full season of golf since the Cobbs Creek Foundation began revitalizing the historic course.

Joined by elected officials, business leaders, community members, and executives from Lincoln Financial, leadership from the nonprofit Cobbs Creek Foundation cut a ribbon on the 42,000 square-foot Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek. The three-story complex houses a driving range and golf entertainment center, The Little Horse Tavern restaurant, retail pro shop and 200-person event and community space.

“We are thrilled to bring to life our partnership with Lincoln Financial on the new Cobbs Creek Golf and Education Campus and to welcome visitors from across the city and region to the Lincoln Financial Center,” said Jeffrey Shanahan, president of the Cobbs Creek Foundation. “We thank our partners at Lincoln Financial for their investment in this community. Their commitment ensures that the Cobbs Creek campus will be a beacon of education, life-changing opportunities, and environmental stewardship.”

Through our partnership with TGR Foundation, we are bringing financial literacy and economic empowerment programs to the next generation. As a founding partner, we are honored to be part of this effort and to call this city our home.”

Lincoln Financial became a founding partner of the nonprofit Cobbs Creek Foundation in March 2025, a strategic alignment that will further the restoration of the historic campus as well as the development of community education, networking and mentorship opportunities – reflecting a shared, long-term commitment to the Philadelphia community through increased access to innovative programs and world class facilities.

Together with its partners, Cobbs Creek Foundation is building Philadelphia’s newest amateur and professional sports venue — one rooted in excellence, inclusivity, and a deep commitment to giving back to the community. As one of the first founding partners in this initiative, Lincoln Financial is leading the way in this groundbreaking private-public partnership in sports and education, bringing together mission-driven organizations committed to expanding access, opportunity, and community impact in West Philadelphia.

In addition to naming the Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek, the company has also partnered with TGR Foundation to develop a new financial wellness program, Money Moves. This program is designed for students in grades 4-12 and their families to build real-world money management skills through topics such as budgeting, entrepreneurship, investing and more. Powered by Lincoln Financial, the program will launch in July at the Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab at Cobbs Creek and be available at all TGR Learning Labs starting with the 2026-2027 academic year.

The Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab, which opened in April 2025, provides free, year-round educational opportunities for local youth in grades 1-12, including STEAM courses, academic support, college prep and career-connected learning experiences.

The Q School short course, now open to the public, is an entry point for golfers of all ages and abilities and is designed to introduce new players to the game, while also creating a venue for accomplished players to hone their iron play and short game.

The Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek opened in December 2025 as the first golf amenity reopened to the public since the golf course closed in 2020. The new building’s state-of-the-art amenities include:

- A double-decker golf practice facility equipped with Toptracer technology and food and beverage service to all 68 bays. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with walk-ins welcome.

- The Little Horse Tavern, an elevated and approachable neighborhood restaurant and bar.

- A retail pro shop featuring Cobbs Creek apparel, gear and other items for golfers and Cobbs Creek history enthusiasts.

1916 by Fitler Club, a 200+ person community event/banquet space on the top floor. Named after the year the Cobbs Creek Golf Course originally opened, this space is available for meetings, corporate and community events.

“The Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek is a place for us to gather, reconnect and enjoy time together, but it’s much more than that,” said Chris Maguire, chairman of the board of the Cobbs Creek Foundation. “More importantly, it will generate revenue to begin transforming this golf course into a unique self-sustaining destination where golf serves as the engine powering opportunity, education, and community impact for generations to come.”

The Cobbs Creek Foundation is raising $180 million to restore and revitalize the historic Cobbs Creek Golf Course, with the remainder of the project set to open in phases. The Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner-led restoration of the 18-hole championship course is underway with an opening planned for 2027, and the nine-hole Karakung course set to open in 2028.

The Cobbs Creek Golf Campus is managed by Troon, the global leader in providing golf and club-related leisure and hospitality services.

Michigan’s “Dog Tracks”: The Three Lowest-Rated Golf Courses Drawing Player Ire

Brookside Golf Course

Michigan is widely celebrated as a golfer’s paradise, home to more than 850 courses and multiple layouts ranked among the best in America. But for every pristine fairway along Lake Michigan’s bluffs, there are a few courses that have earned far less flattering reviews.

While no official statewide “worst-of” list exists, a combination of user-review platforms, golfer feedback, and documented complaints reveals a trio of courses that consistently land at—or near—the bottom of the ratings.

1. Brookside Golf Course

A lesson in patience—and frustration

Few complaints sting more than wasted time, and Brookside has become synonymous with painfully slow rounds. One widely cited review describes players waiting over two hours on just six holes before walking off the course entirely.

Golfers point to poor pace-of-play management and overcrowding as the primary culprits. While layout and design rarely draw harsh criticism, the overall experience—long waits on every tee box—has dragged its rating down significantly.

2. The Classic at Otsego Club

The Classic at Otsego Club
A stunning design undone by conditions

On paper, The Classic at Otsego Club should be a gem. The routing and natural landscape have even earned praise from seasoned players. But according to repeated golfer feedback, poor maintenance has overshadowed its potential.

One golfer summed it up bluntly in an online discussion:

“It was like playing in a farmer’s field.”

Reports of patchy fairways, damaged greens, and inconsistent upkeep have turned what could be a destination course into a cautionary tale. The gap between design quality and actual playing conditions is what lands it firmly among Michigan’s worst-rated.

3. Loggers Trace Golf Course

Infamy through word-of-mouth

Loggers Trace
Loggers Trace has developed a reputation less through formal rankings and more through golfer chatter and media mentions, including videos labeling it “the worst golf course in Michigan.”

Common criticisms include uneven course conditions, inconsistent maintenance, and a layout that many players find confusing or poorly marked. While not universally condemned, its recurring appearance in “worst course” conversations suggests a persistent reputation problem.

A State of Extremes

The contrast is stark. Michigan boasts elite venues like Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club and Crystal Downs Country Club, which regularly earn national acclaim. Yet the state’s sheer volume of courses means quality can vary widely.

In many cases, the difference between a top-tier course and a bottom-tier one isn’t architecture—it’s maintenance, management, and player experience.

Final Word

Calling any course “the worst” is inherently subjective. Conditions change, ownership shifts, and renovations can revive even the most criticized layouts. But for now, Brookside, The Classic at Otsego Club, and Loggers Trace stand as cautionary examples: in golf, as in life, execution matters just as much as design.

Sedona Golf Resort Completes Enhancement Project

(Sedona, Ariz.)
– Sedona Golf Resort in Sedona, Arizona recently completed a four-month, $400,000 golf course enhancement project. The project, which began in January, focused on updating the irrigation system and bunkers across the 37-year-old property. Sedona Golf Resort’s agronomy team oversaw the planning and management of the project with Henderson, Nevada-based Pro-Turf International executing the work.

During the project, a total of 39 greenside bunkers were rebuilt, while five-and-a-half bunkers were eliminated. The refreshed bunkers were refilled with 1,200 tons of premium Arizona 50/50 bunker sand, which has an off-white color. Crews also replaced the irrigation system’s eight-inch mainline (that was originally installed in 1988) on holes 11 and 13, and reconfigured irrigation lines on the practice range tee and on holes five and nine.

“The irrigation system upgrades will allow us to have more consistent irrigation cycles each night, which ultimately supports turf health to provide firmer and faster conditions,” said Sedona Golf Resort General Manager Jeremy Hayman. “Between the refreshed bunkers and improved conditions, golfers will definitely notice the enhancements.”

Owned by the Arizona Hideaway Collection and managed by Troon Golf, Sedona Golf Resort opened for play in 1988. The 6,646-yard, par-71, Gary Panks-designed course is set in the heart of Sedona’s red rock landscape and is renowned for its dramatic elevation changes and views of the surrounding red rock formations.

Masters Aftermath: What Rory McIlroy’s Win Means for the Rest of the Golf Season

The 90th Masters delivered drama, star power, and a familiar champion, as Rory McIlroy secured his second straight green jacket—joining an elite group of back-to-back winners in Augusta history.

With the year’s first major now complete, attention shifts to the remaining golf calendar. But the biggest questions all start with McIlroy—and ripple across the sport.

What’s Next for Rory McIlroy?

McIlroy now owns six career major titles, and the conversation has quickly shifted from validation to legacy. After finally breaking through at Augusta last year, there were signs he eased off the intensity through the rest of 2025. Solid results followed, but not dominance—especially compared to players like Scottie Scheffler.

This year feels different.

Winning another Masters proves McIlroy still has the ability—and perhaps renewed motivation—to chase history. Reaching double-digit majors is no longer hypothetical. If he does, he would join legends like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Walter Hagen.

What’s especially intriguing is his evolving approach. McIlroy leaned heavily into preparation at Augusta—playing multiple practice rounds and immersing himself in the course. That level of focus may not carry over to every event, but it highlights a broader truth: when something matters deeply to him, he still rises.

The question isn’t just how well he can play—it’s how much he chooses to invest week to week.

Augusta Still Sets the Standard

Beyond McIlroy, the Masters once again reinforced its reputation as golf’s ultimate test.

Recent champions—McIlroy, Scheffler, and Jon Rahm—underscore a clear trend: the best players win at Augusta. The course demands precision, patience, and mental resilience in ways no other tournament quite replicates.

It’s less about who gets hot—and more about who survives.

Other Winners: Grit and Consistency

Collin Morikawa emerged as one of the week’s most impressive performers. Battling a painful back injury, he still finished tied for seventh and closed strong with back-to-back 68s. His performance was as much about mental toughness as ball-striking.

Scheffler, meanwhile, may have delivered the most telling result of all. Starting the weekend 12 shots back, he surged to within one stroke of a playoff. Even without his best game, he remains a constant threat—especially at Augusta, where he now owns four top-four finishes in five years.

Disappointments Raise Questions

Not everyone left Augusta with momentum.

Bryson DeChambeau entered in top form but missed the cut after costly mistakes, including struggles out of bunkers. Rahm’s tie for 38th continued a concerning trend of underwhelming major performances since his move to LIV Golf.

That shift has prompted a bigger question: is the competition—and course difficulty—on LIV adequately preparing players for majors?

Patrick Reed also faded over the weekend after entering contention, raising uncertainty about his schedule and form heading into the rest of the season.

Looking Ahead to the Remaining Majors

Scheffler now enters the next three majors as the clear favorite, and it would be no surprise to see him claim at least one.

But the upcoming venues add intrigue:
- The PGA Championship returns to a course where McIlroy has previously thrived.
- The U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills—famously brutal—could again test the field’s limits, much like when Brooks Koepka won at just 1-over par.
- The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale brings links golf into play, where players like Jordan Spieth have historically excelled.

The Bigger Picture

If Augusta is any indication, the rest of the season sets up as a compelling mix of legacy-building and rivalry.

McIlroy is chasing history.

Scheffler is redefining consistency.

And a deep field of contenders is still searching for their moment.

The Masters may be over—but its impact will shape everything that follows.

Escalante Golf Unveils Next Chapter for Nationally Ranked Canyata

Escalante Golf – a boutique owner and operator of luxury golf properties across 17 states – continues its significant investment in Canyata as the club enters its second full season under Escalante ownership.

Widely regarded as one of the most exclusive tee times in American golf, Canyata has been a fixture on Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” ranking since 2009. Despite this national acclaim, it remains a rare gem. Since opening for play in 2005, it is estimated that only 6,500 total rounds have been played on the Marshall, Illinois course – including just 1,500 in 2025 – reinforcing its reputation for privacy, serenity and pristine conditioning.

“Mystique still defines Canyata, and that’s by design,” said David McDonald, President of Escalante Golf. “When you combine a course that’s been consistently recognized among Golf Digest’s Top 100 in America, with the fact that so few people have ever had the opportunity to play it, you realize just how special this place is. Our goal is not to change that, but to thoughtfully elevate every aspect of the experience while preserving its exclusive yet relaxed atmosphere.”

A Distinctly Different Club

Canyata is redefining the traditional private club model, offering a highly curated, hospitality-driven experience limited to no more than 40 players per day. A hallmark of any visit is the club’s culinary program, led by Chef Gustavo Miranda, whose creative approach departs dramatically from traditional country club fare.

With no set menus, Miranda prepares inspired offerings such as smoked brisket, bison sliders and other rotating specialties from his on-course kitchen concept. Complementing the culinary program is a roving concierge, who circulates the property to provide personalized service, both during the round of golf – from delivering food and beverages to reading putts and forecaddying for a hole or two – and after, like running into town to grab the exact ingredients for a favorite cocktail.

“Everything at Canyata is intentionally different,” said Jeff Goodsell, President and Founder of Icon Golf. “You have a Top 100 golf course that’s been heralded as one of the best modern courses built this century, but the vibe is completely unpretentious. From the way you dine to the way you’re hosted on the course, it’s a more personal, immersive experience that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere.”

Signature Events and Member Programming

In June 2026, Canyata will debut an innovative month-long member-guest series, featuring four consecutive weekends of 30-team events. The top three teams from each weekend will earn invitations to return for a “Tournament of Champions” in the fall, creating a season-long competitive storyline that’s one-of-a-kind among private clubs.

Icon Golf members continue to enjoy exclusive access to Canyata as their home club, along with playing privileges at eight other properties in Escalante’s growing national portfolio. Participation in curated events such as Quests, Experiences and destination tournaments is also included with an Icon membership. Reflecting increasing demand, Icon Golf will raise its initiation fee to $50,000 beginning May 1.

“Our vision is to create something far beyond a traditional golf club,” added Goodsell. “Canyata has long been considered one of the country’s truly special golf enclaves, and we’re building on that foundation to create a destination where a world-class course, high-touch hospitality and outdoor recreation come together in a way that feels both elevated and completely approachable.”

Expanding Amenities and Future Vision

Escalante’s long-term vision for Canyata continues to take shape with a series of upcoming enhancements designed to further elevate the member experience. A newly expanded practice facility – growing from 11,000 to 26,000 square feet of hitting space – will open for member play in early May. In addition, a new custom fleet of Club Car golf carts will soon arrive, featuring unique touches like integrated fishing rod holders as part of a broader vision to incorporate other outdoor recreation activities into a Canyata visit. Projects for future years will include a par-3 course, short-game area and a lit putting green, further positioning Canyata as a comprehensive golf retreat.

Off the course, infrastructure work is already underway for eight luxury member cottages, with site clearing completed and an access road established in late 2025. Scheduled to debut in time for the start of the 2027 season, each of the approximately 3,000-square-foot residences are thoughtfully designed for group stays. They will feature four king primary bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, spacious living areas and vaulted ceilings accented with antique beams. Additional amenities will include covered back porches, multiple large-screen televisions, dedicated golf cart parking, golf bag storage and in-unit laundry, as well as premium in-room conveniences such as built-in refrigeration and coffee stations.

Agronomic Improvements Drive Golf Course Evolution

Since acquiring the property in 2025, Escalante has made substantial investments in course conditioning. Extensive deep aerification, verticutting and heavy topdressing programs have been implemented across all fairways, with results expected to fully mature by the 2027 season. Refinements to select bunkers have also been part of the ongoing work.

“While Canyata’s tees and greens were already in exceptional condition at the time of acquisition, there’s been a particular focus on improving fairway firmness and playability,” said Brent Allen, Canyata’s General Manager. “Faster playing surfaces will unlock the full potential of the layout and make it even more fun for players of all abilities.”
