TRUE linkswear Brand Ambassador Chris Kirk Wins 2023 Honda Classic Wearing LUX Pro

(TACOMA, Wash.)
– TRUE linkswear (TRUE) PGA TOUR brand ambassador Chris Kirk wore LUX Pro en route to winning the 2023 Honda Classic at PGA National Resort and Spa’s Champion Course on Sunday. The Atlanta native and former University of Georgia standout won in a playoff against Eric Cole, earning $1,512,000 in his first victory in seven years and moving him to sixth in the FedExCup standings.

The TRUE LUX Pro is designed and engineered to the rigorous quality, aesthetic, and performance demands of the modern professional golfer. Its classically inspired upper is made from premium leather and forged with TRUE’s TOUR-tested spikeless rubber tread for aggressive traction. A new WANDERLUX interior features a snug, padded heel cup and super foam insert that provides all-day comfort. Its full-grain leather upper is waterproof, ensuring the LUX Pro is ready to excel in all conditions.

“The Champion Course at PGA National challenges every facet of your game, and the Honda Classic is such an outstanding event all around,” said Kirk following the win. “I love that I can count on my TRUEs on every course I play on TOUR week to week, in any conditions.”

With the victory, Kirk qualified for the 87th Masters, which will be his first appearance in Augusta, Ga. since 2016. In the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season, Kirk has one win, three top 10s, and has earned more than $2.6 million. Long known for his putting prowess, he currently ranks first in 3-putt avoidance, first in putting from 3 feet, and fourth from putting from 10-15 feet.

“Congratulations to Chris on his outstanding win at the Honda Classic,” said TRUE CEO Jason Moore. “He’s a class act, a true family man, and an ultimate competitor who fought his way to victory in a playoff on an incredibly challenging golf course.”

True Blue to Host Golf’s Most Popular Traveling Tournament Series

(PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C.)
— Golf’s most popular traveling tournament series is coming to one of America’s premier public courses.

The Barstool Classic, a series of 25 events that span the country, will tee off at True Blue Golf Club on March 6. The one-day event, which is sold out, includes 18 holes of golf, breakfast, lunch, Truly Hard Seltzer, a tee gift and more.

The format is two-man, better ball with teams using 50 percent of their USGA Handicap Index. The top four finishers will advance to the Barstool Classic Championship and have the opportunity to win $10,000, in addition to having their names engraved on the Commissioners Cup.

True Blue, which is ranked among America’s top 100 resort courses by Golfweek, is an ideal place to begin the 2023 series, treating players to the work of legendary architect Mike Strantz. The course’s bold design features sweeping fairways, large undulating greens and rugged waste bunkers.

Strantz was a supernova on the architecture scene, designing seven courses before passing away from cancer in 2005, and True Blue has proven to be one of his most popular layouts.

Everything is big at True Blue and the size of the course is at the heart of its popularity, enhancing its playability for high handicappers while more skilled golfers have to play to the proper spots to score well.

Barstool’s team - Trent, Riggs, Frankie and Dan - have enjoyed a meteoric rise based on the popularity of its Fore Play podcast, an engaging, irreverent look at the game through the eyes of regular golfers. Many of golf’s biggest names have appeared on Fore Play, reaching a younger, yet no less passionate, audience.

Given that the Fore Play crew played True Blue last year as part of its travel series, the team is very comfortable bringing its fans to the course.

The Barstool Classic will be played in 18 states and Toronto, Canada with courses such as The Greenbrier, TPC Boston and Grand Traverse Resort joining True Blue as high-profile hosts.

Discover Puerto Rico Unveils Results of Visitors Profile Study

Island Scores High Marks with Business and Leisure Guests; Golf, Beaches, Culture, and Gastronomy Contribute to Satisfaction, Intention to Return

(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO) – Discover Puerto Rico published its first comprehensive study on visitors arriving in Puerto Rico, a year-long assignment that included interviews in different parts of the Island with 1,607 travelers from abroad.

One of the study’s main findings is that 98% of visitors were satisfied with their experience on the Island. Similarly, 95% estimate they will return in the future, and less than 15% experienced any concerns at some point during their stay.

The Island has long been popular with golfers, beach lovers, and those who appreciate the Island’s culture, biodiversity, and people. Now, according to the study results, visitors have expanded the reasons they choose Puerto Rico for getaways and travel experiences.

The main reason for travel was vacationing (65%). Only 13% said their trip was to visit relatives or friends. Travelers selected Puerto Rico as a destination for its weather (34%), scenic beauty (32%), and local culture (31%).

On average, travelers stayed on the island for 6.1 nights. About half spent the night in a hotel (45%), a third in short-term rentals (34%), and the rest in private residences. It is estimated that each visitor spends around $208 per day. These expenses include accommodations, food, entertainment, experiences, and shopping.

This picture shows the composition of travelers in the best year in the history of the tourism industry in terms of total visitor spending ($8.9 billion), revenue from the rental tax ($116 million), and jobs in the recreation and lodging sectors (91,500). 2022 generated the highest passenger traffic at Luis Muñoz Marín airport (over 10 million) in more than a decade.

The increased visitation certainly has resonated throughout the Island golf destination, as many courses and golf resorts report welcoming burgeoning numbers of players in each of the past three years.

Sixteen of Puerto Rico’s 18 golf courses are open to the public. The other two – at TPC Dorado Beach – allow play by guests staying at the Dorado Beach, Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Golfweek rates several of the Island’s courses among the best in the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Atlantic Islands.

Island courses range from luxury resort to municipal, spread throughout Puerto Rico with several clustered near historic San Juan. Oceanside views, coconut trees, and mountain and rainforest vistas frame their settings. Price points, terrain, layout style, and related amenities are varied and complementary.

Traveling to the Island is convenient with many choices as it is the air hub of the Caribbean. Further traveler friendliness is found in Puerto Rico’s bilingual culture, U.S. currency, and no passport required for American citizens.

Bonfit Present Play Nine, The Card Game of Golf

Play Nine brings golf from the green to the card table for families, friends, and communities

(LOS ANGELES, CA – Bonfit America Inc., an incubator, manufacturer, and distributor of unique products, is proud to present a card game that is founded on the principles of golf but a game that anyone can play and enjoy – Play Nine.

“Play Nine is a great game for a casual game night or family get together. It is quick, easy to play and FUN,” said Bonfit President Paul Krok. “We’re experiencing a great deal of success with Play Nine in the large communities, particularly those associated with golf courses. During the pandemic, crowds from the Villages in Florida enjoyed Play Nine daily. It is very popular in these large venues; they can also create ladders and brackets to expand the game for weeks.”

PLAY NINE QUICK LESSON – GO LOW

· Set the Course: Deal eight cards to each player. Arrange the cards into two rows of four cards. Each player flips two cards face up to start the game.

· Advancing Down the Fairway: Play continues in order with all players drawing, then turning over or replacing a card as they shoot for the lowest score.

· Shaving off Strokes: Players draw, decide, and discard working to match vertical pairs of cards. When matching a pair, the card cancels out equaling zero points.

· Winning the Hole: As players go about their turn flipping and discarding cards, strokes will reduce, and one player will be met with the question of flipping their last card up. Players have the choice to skip their turn after drawing a card and immediately discarding it in hopes of reducing their strokes in the next turn. When a player decides to flip their last card, each other person has one final turn before the Hole ends. Play nine holes and the player with the lowest strokes wins the game.

“How I like to explain Play Nine. Each turn is a shot, and each hand is a hole. The game can be played in ten minutes but what is surprising is how strategic gameplay have people playing the game for hours,” added Krok.

Play Nine is available at fine golf specialty stores including PGA TOUR Superstore, and Golf Galaxy as well as at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon, and Walmart. It retails for $18.99 USD and includes 108 cards, golf pencil, 150 sheet scorecard and easy to read instructions. To order online, visit www.playnine.com.

Stewart Golf Releases 2023 R1-S Push Golf Trolley

(Gloucester, U.K.)
– Stewart Golf has unveiled the 2023 edition of the R1-S Push, with upgrades offering improved durability and performance, as well a new color option—Midnight Grey.

The R Series has been part of the Stewart line since the company’s launch in 2014, when it became the only push trolley to be built in Great Britain. The clean lines of the R1-S Push are the result of housing the folding mechanism within the frame itself, a feature which is unique due to the patented rack and pinion design. The hidden mechanism links all three wheels to the main upright, providing smooth, consistent, and quick folding.

The latest version features a self-adjusting silicone bag cradle that allows any size golf bag to be carried, from small Sunday bags to full-size tour bags.

The R1-S Push features three quick release wheels, anti-rotation silicon bungees, umbrella holder, golf ball holder, magnetic ball marker, drink holder, umbrella storage loops, parking brake, scorecard holder (inside and outside), pencil holder, as well as internal storage and four accessory points for other optional items.

CEO Mark Stewart said, “This latest evolution further establishes the R Series as a leader in push trolley design. Based on customer feedback, the addition of the self-adjusting cradle guarantees that literally any kind of golf bag fits comfortably, while the new color options mean there is an R1-S Push for every golfer.”

The new Midnight Grey frame color will sell alongside the existing options of Pearl White and Anodic Black. When partnered with the red, blue, green, black, or white wheels, there are 15 potential color combinations.

This model has previously received editor’s choice accolades in the United Kingdom from Golf Monthly and Today’s Golfer magazines.

Golf Monthly wrote, “This is the best-looking push trolley on the market, and is packed with useful features,” while Today’s Golfer said, “It’s beautifully engineered with a really slick folding mechanism and everything about it shouts quality.”

40th Annual World Amateur Handicap Championship to Begin Accepting Entries February 15

Golf’s Largest Single-Site Tournament Expected to Attract 3,200+ Players

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) – The 40th annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship will begin accepting entries for the milestone event February 15. A 72-hole, net stroke play tournament, the World Am will be played Aug. 28 – Sept. 1 and more than 3,200 players from across the world are again expected to participate.

Early entry into the tournament, which includes at least four rounds of golf, nightly admission to the World’s Largest 19th Hole and a gift bag, is $599 through March 23, a $100 savings off the regular cost. Players that register by March 23 will also be eligible to win one of 67 random drawing prizes valued at more than $10,000 from brands such as TaylorMade, REVO and more.

“The World Am is the game’s premier recreational tournament, and the fact we have arrived at Year 40 and continue to attract a robust field is a testament to the event’s enduring appeal,” said tournament director Scott Tomasello. “We can’t wait to welcome golfers back to Myrtle Beach and provide them the opportunity to compete like a pro over the course of 72 holes and earn the title of World Champion. With everything we have planned for this year’s tournament, especially at the World’s Largest 19th Hole, 2023 will be a great for our players.”

The World Am, which will be played on more than 50 Myrtle Beach area golf courses, flights players based on age, gender and handicap and is open to all golfers 17 years of age and older with a verifiable USGA handicap.

The World Am flights players into 12 divisions – men 49 and under, senior men (50-59), mid-senior men (60-69), super senior men (70-79), seasoned seniors (80+), women (59 and under), senior women (60+), the gross division, senior (50+) gross division, mid-senior (60+) gross division and women’s gross division. There is also a “Just For Fun” flight, created for players who want to enjoy the World Am experience without the pressure of competition.

After four days of tournament play, all flight winners and ties advance to the World Championship Playoff, an 18-hole shootout that crowns the event’s winner.

While the competition is initially what lures players to the tournament, it’s only part of what keeps them coming back. At the heart of the World Am’s appeal is the camaraderie among its participants and much of that kinship is fostered at the World’s Largest 19th Hole.

Each night of the event, the 19th Hole overtakes all 120,000-square feet of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, providing participants with free food and drinks, live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a golf expo and more. Among the big names that have appeared at the 19th Hole in recent years are David Feherty, Brandel Chamblee, Charlie Rymer and John Daly.

Players also receive a gift bag that includes a polo, pullover, golf towel, logo’d hat, PGA Tour Superstore gift card and an assortment of other goodies valued cumulatively at $250.

A U.S. Marine veteran, Runyan assumes the golf club helm with a resume filled with distinctions including:

Runyan brings his impressive track record to a golf club with a similarly outstanding history. Since opening in 2003, Circling Raven has accumulated dozens of honors ranging from “Best Casino Course in America” to “Top 100 U.S. Resort Course” by multiple national media outlets.

Circling Raven’s latest honor – No. 1 Public Golf Course in Idaho – came last month from GolfPass and its annual “Golfers' Choice” lists, compiled by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by GolfPass members throughout the preceding season.

Dundonald Links Garners Two Accolades at Scottish Golf Tourism Awards

(Ayrshire, Scotland)
– Dundonald Links earned distinction in two categories at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards last week, the new luxury resort collecting first-place prizes for Best Clubhouse and Best Sustainability Project.

The popular golf course was transformed into a full, opulent resort that had its first full season in 2022, spearheaded by an extensive overhaul of its clubhouse. The spacious facility has received much acclaim for its Highlands-inspired aesthetic and exceptional Canny Crow restaurant. A quintessentially Scottish whisky room offers tasting sessions, while the resort’s state-of-the-art gym boasts a wide range of equipment. Guests report that the refined, sumptuous clubhouse is the perfect place to relax in post round, with panoramic views over the 18th green and beyond.

Dundonald Links’ distinction in the Best Sustainability Project category is recognition of the resort’s work around the 2022 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open, which it staged in July 2022, working with industry experts to create the #TGWSOOnTheGreen strategy. Throughout the build-up and event itself,

Dundonald Links used educational messaging, advanced waste processing and a site-wide ban of plastics among its methods to promote environmental wellness across the tournament. Meanwhile, official clothing supplier Reflo played its part by providing uniforms made of recycled plastics and coffee beans and committed to planting a tree for every birdie or better scored throughout the tournament – a number that eventually came to 1,583.

“We are extremely proud to win these awards, which are testament to both the success of our recent investments and the hard work of the whole team here,” said Ian Ferguson, General Manager at Dundonald Links. “These awards emphasize two key pillars of our strategy: world class facilities and meaningful, long-term actions toward sustainability. We look forward to what the future holds as we strive to keep improving.”

Dundonald Links has been one of Scotland’s most popular golf courses. The Kyle Phillips’ designed layout is known for its challenging bunkers and imaginative greens, earning a place among Ayrshire’s iconic, nearby courses that include Prestwick, Royal Troon, and Western Gailes. The resort is already confirmed to host the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open again in 2023, alongside Final Qualifying for The Open.

Under new owners Darwin Escapes, heavy investment has seen Dundonald Links evolve into a full-fledged resort.  Guests can stay in either modern hotel rooms or a collection of luxurious, self-catering lodges, all just a wedge shot from the golf course and clubhouse. The Canny Crow restaurant and whisky room pay tribute to the resort’s heritage while maintaining a contemporary feel, crafting a one-of-a-kind golf venue that is only growing in reputation.

Titleist Presents ‘We Go Farther’ Docuseries

The Story of the Titleist Speed Project and the Most Played Drivers on the PGA TOUR

(FAIRHAVEN, Mass.) – “We Go Farther,” a new four-part docuseries chronicling the Titleist Speed Project, an R&D breakthrough that drove the resurgence of Titleist drivers on the PGA TOUR, debuts today on the Titleist YouTube channel and Titleist.com/We-Go-Farther.

• Series Synopsis: Today, TSR is one of the fastest, most popular drivers in the game. But it wasn’t long ago that Titleist drivers had a different reputation. We Go Farther is a new series from Titleist that takes you deep inside the Titleist Speed Project, a six-year journey that transformed a daunting challenge into overwhelming Tour success. Meet the team that led the way and see what it takes to harness pure speed.

• Most Played Driver on Tour: Titleist TS drivers, the first models developed through the Titleist Speed Project, made their debut at the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. A total of 17 players made the immediate switch to TS models that week, a striking number particularly for the week of a major championship.

For the first time since 2000, more players used Titleist drivers on the PGA TOUR during the 2018-2019 season than any other brand. Through the introduction of the next generation TSi and TSR models, Titleist has remained the most played driver brand on the PGA TOUR for four seasons running.

“I feel like I can hit the low one in the wind, I feel like I can hit the high one to carry a bunker, and I’ve got that extra 10 [yards] over the last five years that I didn’t have,” Jordan Spieth says in Episode 4. “Over the course of a season that makes a huge difference.”

Last season, Titleist drivers were played to win 16 PGA TOUR events, including three majors championships. Justin Thomas (PGA Championship) and the U.S. Open Champion gamed TSi3 drivers while Cameron Smith won the Open Championship with his TSR3 just weeks after the new models launched on tour.

Max Homa’s victory last week at the Farmers Insurance Open marked the 30th win for the TSR drivers across the worldwide professional tours.

Zero Friction Golf Bags Among Top Items at the 2023 PGA Show in Orlando

(OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL) — Zero Friction’s new Wheel Pro STRIDE golf bag was a hit among attendees and media at last week’s PGA Show in Orlando.

While being interviewed on the Golf Channel by Matt Adams, Zero Friction Founder and President John Iacono said, “We spent a lot of time on (the Stride bag).  It has a remote control, a 36-hole battery; and it will walk within three feet of you, and in pace to keep up with your own stride.”

Weighing 35 pounds, STRIDE includes a built in intelligent gyroscopic control system for stability, speed control and soft start. The bag is able to handle all terrain including steep uphill slopes and tall grass.

TV Host Adams said, “It looks exciting and it looks a lot of fun, particularly for the people that want to try to get out on the golf course and get a little more exercise.”

Other features include an average speed of 3 mph (max. 5 mph), an autobrake system and a smart gearbox.  Plus, the STRIDE bag has plenty of room, including 14 club dividers, 2 waterproof pockets, 2 towel/accessory rings, 1 umbrella holder, and a built-in cooler which can hold up to 6 cans; as well as 2 invisible magnets to secure your rangefinder and Bluetooth speaker.

The bag is available in black or gray at a MSRP of $2199. The quick release 10-inch all terrain wheels allow easy storage.

It was not only the STRIDE bag receiving all the attention.

Zero Friction, LLC’s Wheel Pro Push Cart bag received an award at the 29th Annual ING Industry Honors Awards Program for Top Product in the Product Ingenuity – Accessories/Soft Goods category.

The program is conducted by the non-profit International Network Of Golf to recognize outstanding achievement in the golf business. ING is a not-for-profit, media-based networking organization – “where media connects with the golf industry.”

The Wheel Pro Push Cart bag, which was released in 2022, is a three in one product. “It’s a carry stand bag that quickly and simply converts to a push cart or can be put on back of a motor cart,” said Iacono.  “And it only weighs 10 pounds.”

The Wheel Pro Push Cart has a single strap, six full-length dividers and seven zippered pockets.  Plus, it includes an umbrella holder and bag head cover.  The new golf bag is available in three color choices: black/gray, gray/black, navy/white at a MSRP of $349.99.

Ashworth Golf Debuts Fall Line at PGA Show

Iconic Brand Invigorates Golf Apparel Market with Innovative Clothing Line Engineered with Proprietary Fabrics that Blend High-end Natural Yarns with Advanced Performance Fibers

(La Quinta, CA) – On the heels of Ashworth Golf’s return to the US market and the recent signing of Fred Couples and Tom Hoge, Newtimes Group, a global leader of retail supply chain management, debuted its innovative 2023 fall line at the PGA Show, which took place January 25-27 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Revered by passionate players since the Company’s debut in 1987, Ashworth, the original, authentic golf apparel brand, is once again invigorating a golf apparel market led by an innovative line-up of clothing engineered with proprietary fabrics that blend high-end natural yarns with advanced performance fibers. Developed with a shrewd understanding of the golfer’s movements, while tapping into the product development power of Newtimes Group’s global network, Ashworth Golf’s fall clothing line delivers style, full range of motion and comfort all day.

Headlining the Fall 2023 line, Ashworth is introducing several new polos and tees featuring next generation innovation fabric including Soft-Tech, Natural Soft-Tech, Pebble Tech, and Dry Release. Each model is designed to feel super soft and incorporate strong performance attributes, with an elevated style and appearance that is synonymous with the design expertise of Ashworth President, and resident fabric alchemist, Eddie Fadel, who is pushing the boundaries and driving innovation.

“Having the Newtimes Group engine behind us is our point of differentiation, and I feel like a kid in a candy store while tinkering with a mix of fabrics, fibers and yarns to create the new look Ashworth,” said Eddie Fadel.  “As Ashworth re-emerges in the US market, we are all about making clothes that look better and feel better for golfers.”

Dry Release is designed to look and feel like complete cotton, while offering classic style with moisture wicking, UV protection, and four-way stretch for easy movement. The unique blend of poly, cotton and spandex offers the ultimate in easy care, wash and wear. Soft-Tech material is a super high-performance poly product, integrating some spandex for stretch, while featuring a unique construction – the size and quality of the yarn, and the weave to create an extra soft hand. For Soft-Tech print polos, extra care is taken to maintain softness during the printing process, controlling the temperature and using higher quality dyes.

The Natural Soft-Tech collection is a blend of bamboo and cotton with a touch of spandex. Bamboo has very strong, natural performance attributes including wicking, UV protection, and anti-microbial qualities.  Pebble Tech is engineered for maximum breathability with the highest level of performance. By manipulating the knitting process, with special attention to yarn weight and twist, pebbled holes are produced for air-flow in the poly/spandex blend. The resulting subtle textured appearance gives the shirt a rich and elevated look while increasing breathability and comfort.

The Fall 2023 collection features several prints designed from a distinct Ashworth perspective centered on subtle and stylish, and created with discerning club members in mind, both on and off the golf course. Polos include updated icons from the Ashworth archives including the tipped collar/sleeve original, and a strong presentation of mid-layers, including a stand-out crewneck in performance fabric that blends in some Peruvian cotton for an elevated appearance, along with a selection of quarter-zips, and a fashionable, fun hoodie created for course play.

Ashworth ambassadors Fred Couples and Tom Hoge will be outfitted in Ashworth apparel when competing on the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, as well as other professional events around the world.
