Those previously off-limit stories are fair game now,” said Kostis. “We've pretty much seen it all in our decades of playing, teaching, calling the action, and now we're ready to bring fans inside the ropes and behind the scenes with no holds barred.”

Kostis and McCord will spend the day with Nemacolin’s members of The Woodlands Club and Season Kick-Off Party attendees in The Nemacolin Golf Academy, doling out swing tips, legendary stories, and recording an episode of Kostis & McCord - Off Their Rockers live from the event. Then, later that night, Kostis and McCord will join the group for an intimate after-dinner conversation where they’ll let loose with their unique brand of storytelling and invite questions from the crowd.

This is a can’t-miss golf event and a one-of-a-kind opportunity to spend time with golf’s ultimate insiders-turned-outsiders. The Kostis & McCord - Off Their Rockers podcast has already yielded some scintillating conversations that have gone viral in the golf media. Edison Golf Company Introduces EDISON 2.0 Wedges

Designed for forgiveness without sacrificing shot making.

(ROCKPORT, TX) — Edison Golf, a company dedicated to revolutionizing wedge performance, introduces the new EDISON 2.0 wedges for 2023, the 2nd generation of innovative wedges specifically designed for forgiveness, distance control and versatile turf interaction, without sacrificing shot making precision. EDISON 2.0 wedges are now available for pre-order, with order fulfillment to begin by mid-April.

The new EDISON 2.0 wedges represent a quantum leap in wedge design, as they are the only wedges on the market specifically designed around a multi-year study of the way recreational golfers hit their wedges, as opposed to being designed only for the extraordinary skills of elite tour players.

“For over 40 years, I have been puzzled as to why golfers are forced to suffer from the inefficiencies of ‘tour design’ wedges,” explained Terry Koehler, Chairman and Director of Innovation at Edison Golf. “Robotic testing consistently proves even the newest iterations of these traditional wedge designs are less forgiving than even a tour blade short iron. Our research reveals that less than 10% of golfers consider their wedge play a strength of their games . . . and the wedges they play are a big reason why.”

Koehler shares that his extensive study of the impact pattern on thousands of recreational golfers’ wedges reveals that even the most skilled golfers routinely make contact higher in the face and over a larger area than do the elite tour professionals. He explains this is why rank-and-file amateurs cannot get consistent performance from their wedges, and why you even see tour professionals frequently come up way short with their wedge shots.

“Distance inconsistency is built into every other wedge on the market,” explained Koehler. “The physics of the golf club doesn’t know who you are, only where impact is made. And a high-face or toe impact is going to lose up to 15-18% impact efficiency, regardless of your pedigree.”

Introduced in 2020, the original Edison Forged wedges significantly improved wedge performance by dramatically changing the way mass was distributed across the back of the clubhead. In the EDISON 2.0 line of wedges, an additional 14-17 grams have been positioned even higher in the clubhead, achieved by creation of a multi-level back design that optimizes smash factor across the face. This repositioning also creates a fresh and distinctive visual appeal to the product.

“I’ve been pursuing dramatic changes in wedge design for over thirty years. While it’s flattering to see all the major brand wedges finally beginning to position a tiny bit more mass higher in their wedge clubheads, none are anywhere close to the EDISON 2.0. In fact, none of today’s wedges are even to the point where my Reid Lockhart® wedges were in the 1990s,” said Koehler. “A caliper measurement of the face thicknesses of any major brand wedge to my historic wedge designs proves that I have led this design concept for decades. The EDISON 2.0 wedges are generations ahead of everyone else.”

In addition to enhanced weighting technologies, the EDISON 2.0 wedges feature an improved version of the renowned and proven “Koehler Sole.” Patented over 30 years ago, this unique sole design combines both a high and low bounce into each wedge and has been proven by thousands of golfers to deliver an unmatched level of sole versatility to handle different lies and different swing paths.

“I’ve always believed the notion of ‘bounce fitting’ to be absurd because the texture of the turf, the array of possible lies your ball can find and every golfer’s divot pattern are all variable,” explains Koehler. “How anyone can claim to fit things that are constantly changing is mind-boggling to me.”

In addition to the high-performance advanced weighting and the Koehler Sole, the EDISON 2.0 wedges feature the company’s new ‘pearl chrome’ finish for an upscale and contemporary appearance. The pearl chrome combines with glass bead texturing for a soft surface finish and a warmer color than traditional chrome plating to reduce glare from the face at address. The pearl chrome finish is also “slicker” to help channel away moisture from the face when playing in wet conditions.

The rear of the EDISON 2.0 topline features an engraved graphic, “5X FORGED” to acknowledge Edison’s five-step forging process, which produces the most precise raw forgings possible and delivers the unmatched feel of a quality forged golf club head. It should be noted that wedges from nearly all major brands feature clubheads that are cast, not forged, which are much cheaper to make but are inferior in feel to a true forging.

With the introduction of the EDISON 2.0 product line, Edison’s online buying experience has been enhanced and streamlined for ease of use and improved customer engagement. With a few simple and easy clicks, the buyer can assemble the lofts in his/her set of wedges, select the preferred shaft and grip and request any custom alterations to Edison standards. This “Build Yours Now” interface coordinates with Edison’s enhanced and improved WedgeFit Scoring Range Analysis experience.

Koehler, who also writes a popular weekly blog as The Wedge Guy on GolfWRX.com, has spent more than 40 years designing golf clubs. His work in wedges dates to 1990 with his patented sole design, which incorporated two distinct bounce angles in the sole of each wedge to deliver versatility for any lie and swing path. Shortly thereafter, he pioneered raising the CG (center of mass) of wedges with Reid Lockhart, and his EIDOLON wedges of the early 2000s were the first to introduce CNC-milled grooves in mainstream wedges. Koehler’s wedge design breakthroughs were further advanced with his progressive weighting technology in the SCOR wedges of 2011-2014 and the Ben Hogan TK wedges of 2015-2017.

The technologies found only in the EDISON 2.0 wedges further separate and distance Koehler’s work from all other wedge brands.

All EDISON 2.0 wedges are backed by a 30-Day Risk Free Trial. The company will build you an EDISON 2.0 wedge and let you put it to the test on your course, hitting the variety of shots you face every round. If for any reason it's not the best wedge you've ever played, Edison Golf will buy it back.

EDISON 2.0 wedges are engineered to odd-number lofts from 45 to 59 degrees and are custom built for each golfer from a wide selection of premium shafts and grips. Requests for even number lofts are met by tweaking the lower number clubhead. Pricing is $199.95 for steel shaft wedges and $214.95 for graphite shafts. Shipping is free, and discounts are applied on orders for full sets of two or more. A broad selection of up-charge options for shafts and grips is also available during the shopping experience via the company’s website at www.EdisonWedges.com.

Arcis Golf Clubs Voted Among ‘Best in Region’ in 2023 CAGGY Awards

Three Properties Recognized by Colorado AvidGolfer Magazine

(DALLAS) — A trio of Arcis Golf properties in the Denver-area has been recognized by readers and editors of Colorado AvidGolfer in their annual CAGGY Awards.

Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton, a public facility, and two private clubs in Parker, The Club at Pradera and The Pinery Country Club, were honored, based on online voting by more than 5,000 of the publication’s readers.

One of the most photographed and popular daily fee courses in Colorado, Arrowhead Golf Club has been literally 300 million years in the making. It is noted for its scenic natural beauty, elevation changes, abundant wildlife, ancient red sandstone rocks towering majestically above the fairways, and strategic Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design.

Between Arcis Golf’s Colorado two private clubs are two world-class golf courses, two remarkable restaurants, breathtaking patio dining, award-winning indoor and outdoor tennis facilities, and a host of fine lifestyle amenities.

“To be recognized by the readers of Colorado AvidGolfer is a testament to our talented team members,” said Blake S. Walker, founder and CEO of Arcis Golf. “The voters and editors visit facilities throughout Colorado and recognize quality when they experience it first-hand. We are grateful for the recognition of these properties, their first-class amenities, and personnel.”

Arrowhead Golf Club was honored in five categories:

• Best Wedding or Party Venue (first place). The Club’s 3,200-square-foot Event Pavilion provides a picturesque backdrop for weddings and special occasions for as many as 200 people.

• Best Après-Golf Experience (second place). With a diverse menu and upscale but casual ambiance, the Club’s On the Rocks Bar & Grill has long been a local favorite.

• Best Denver Region Course (third place). The acclaimed par-70 championship course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and Robert Trent Jones, Jr., is one of America’s most photographed courses due to its breathtaking setting.

• Best Place to Hold a Tournament (third place). The Club prides itself on delivering flawlessly executed golf tournaments and outings that exceed expectations at every turn.

• Best Value (third place). The overall experience and price point make this one of the best values in the marketplace.

Honored jointly with the 2023 CAGGY awards were The Club at Pradera, a spectacular 7,200-yard layout that blends harmoniously with pristine natural surroundings in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains, and The Pinery Country Club, which offers 27 holes of golf with panoramic vistas.

These private clubs offer an extensive year-round schedule of member dining and social events, and numerous other activities and amenities to spend quality time with family and friends in a spectacularly beautiful natural setting to help rejuvenate, relax, and enhance well-being.

Both were noted as “best values” and their director of instruction, Jason Witczak, was a top four selection for “Best Instructor for Juniors” and “Best Instructor for Men.”

The CAGGY awards can be viewed in the Spring edition of the magazine, as well as online at 2023CAGGYS.

True Blue Golf Club, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club Set To Host Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate

(PAWLEYS ISLAND)
– True Blue Golf Club and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, two of America’s top 100 resort courses, are poised to host 36 teams from across the nation for the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate.

The 54-hole event will be played March 27-29 with 18 men’s and 18 women’s teams competing on the highly acclaimed Mike Strantz designs. The women will play Caledonia all  three days while the men will tee it up at True Blue, with everyone hoping to build momentum as team’s look toward postseason play.

“We can’t wait to welcome teams for the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate,” said Bart Romano, director of golf operations for True Blue and Caledonia. “We will have 36 teams from 15 states playing Caledonia and True Blue while enjoying the best the area has to offer on and off the course. Both layouts are in pristine condition and will provide an enjoyable test for the game’s next generation of stars.”

The men’s field will feature Valparaiso, University of Connecticut, High Point, Ohio, Evansville, Southern Illinois, Jacksonville State, Wichita State, Marshall, Central Arkansas, Xavier, Austin Peay, Winthrop, Troy, Delaware, Northern Colorado, Loyola-Chicago and Western Illinois.

The women’s field will include North Dakota State, Marshall, Akron, Gardner-Webb, Evansville, Winthrop, Morehead State, James Madison, Coastal Carolina, St. Thomas, Florida Gulf Coast, UNC Greensboro, East Carolina, UNC Asheville, Western Illinois, Ohio, Illinois-Chicago and Northern Colorado.

Caledonia and True Blue are two of the Myrtle Beach area’s most acclaimed courses. Strantz’ first solo design, Caledonia is a consensus top 100 course. The layout is equal parts art and architecture, rewarding precision as much as raw power.

Conversely, True Blue is a big course in every sense of the word. Players will enjoy the opportunities provided by some of the area’s widest fairways, but that doesn’t mean tee shots will be without challenge.

True Blue’s greens are equally large in scale and it is incumbent on golfers to find the proper spots off the tee if they hope to attack pins on a layout that rewards a creative approach to the game.

The Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate is one of three college events the Caledonia and True Blue will host this year.

For more information or to book a tee time, visit CaledoniaGolfandFishClub.com or TrueBlueGolf.com

Champion Hills Announces 2023 Membership Plans

Year-Round Golf Community, Club in Western N.C. Meets Evolving, Growing Market with Creative Options

(HENDERSONVILLE, N.C.) – Champion Hills, home of Tom Fazio’s seminal “Mountain Masterpiece,” is smoothly swinging into 2023 with various membership offerings to meet the demographic and geographic shifts of the past three years that have created unprecedented demand for private golf memberships.

The continued popularity of remote work and the resulting freedom to move from densely populated urban areas in cold climates to Sun Belt states has led to a surge in relocations to the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains of Western N.C. That, coupled with the increase in first-time members joining private clubs in the Southeast, has led to record membership sales at Champion Hills.

As a year-round golf community and club, Champion Hills’ members enjoy golf, tennis, hiking and other outdoor activities during all four seasons. Its enviable location in bucolic Henderson County is just 45 minutes south of the craft beer capital and cultural center of Asheville and an hour north of award-winning Greenville, S.C. Downtown Hendersonville, a charming main street town with shops and restaurants, is only a few minutes away.

“Champion Hills’ memberships meet the needs of a wide range of age groups and lifestyles, and our location amid the majestic Blue Ridge mountains, pristine lakes and vibrant towns of this region makes us a top choice for those looking for a mild four-season climate with a comparatively low cost of living,” says General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Alan Deck, CCM, PGA. “We’re conveniently situated midway between the Northeast and Florida and just a few hours’ drive from the burgeoning Atlanta and Charlotte metro areas.”

Membership Plans

-Champion Hills’ Equity 55 is a full golf membership designed for those age 55 and under searching for a club to call home. The initiation fee is divided into four equal payments over four years, dues and replacement reserve fund contributions are reduced by 50% and the club’s annual food and beverage minimum is prorated for new members.

-The club’s newly enhanced National Membership is for those who don’t own property in Henderson County but want to enjoy all the privileges, social activities and friendly competition that come with belonging to a premier private golf club. The initiation fee and monthly dues include 30 rounds of golf before incurring a guest fee.

-The Annual Explorer is a 12-month trial membership showcasing the complete Champion Hills experience. The Initiation fee can be applied to any membership at the end of the year, and monthly dues / replacement reserve fees are required in year one. It’s ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in club life before selecting their long-term membership plan.

-Champion Hills’ flagship offering is the Full Equity Golf Membership, which, in addition to full access to all club activities and amenities, includes both vertical family and Troon Privé benefits. One of the most valuable benefits a club can offer, vertical family membership enables members’ parents, children and grandchildren to experience all aspects of the club, regardless of age.

Member-owned and managed by Troon, Champion Hills’ Full Equity Golf members enjoy entry to 100+ Troon Privé golf courses, preferred rates at more than 150 Troon Golf resort and daily fee locations, access to amenities at participating private clubs and preferred benefits at participating Cliff Drysdale Tennis clubs and resorts.

The Community

Champion Hills boasts a broad array of residential options – luxury homes, low-maintenance cottages, lock-and-leave villas and a limited number of building lots – suiting a wide variety of buyers. With the U.S. housing supply approaching a two-decade low, and Western N.C. following suit, we encourage prospective member-buyers to continually visit our website for an update on existing inventory.

New residents are often pleasantly surprised by “how much home” they can afford in one of Western North Carolina’s most exclusive mountain communities. Building lots typically range from .5 up to 1.5 acres, with prices from $17,500 to $150,000. Move-in ready luxury residences range from $700,000 to $1.75 million and feature golf course, mountain and wooded views (inventory is subject to availability and prices are subject to market fluctuations).

The Golf Course

Champion Hills is Fazio’s former home course and club. The legendary golf course architect devised a brilliant routing traversing heavily forested hills, deep ravines and cool mountain streams in a scenic Blue Ridge Mountain setting. He and his team of shapers pulled ridges into valleys and filled hollows to create “playing platforms,” providing golfers with level lies amid 350 feet of elevation change.

The course is perennially ranked in Golfweek's list of the “Top 200 Residential Golf Courses in the U.S.” as well as the esteemed publication’s state-by-state rankings of the best private courses in the country. Champion Hills is one of the few golf courses in the Carolinas to feature five sets of tees rated for women, responding to the growth in this rapidly expanding player demographic.

Stewart Golf Launches New APEX Remote Trolley

(Gloucester, U.K.)
– World-renowned golf trolley manufacturer Stewart Golf has announced a brand-new model to join its award-winning electric cart fleet--the APEX Remote—what the company is calling the “ultimate remote machine,” giving golfers total control of their trolleys from up to 100 yards away.

Stewart Golf manufactures the world’s most advanced, remote-controlled golf carts and is a pioneer in follow technologies, many of which have been incorporated into the APEX Remote.  A world first in golf—Active Terrain Control (ATC)—is a sophisticated operating system that gives the user ultimate control of their trolley on any course, no matter how challenging its landscape and is the hallmark of the APEX.

ATC allows APEX to automatically redistribute power independently between twin super-charged motors depending on elevation grades.  Unlike basic downhill braking, ATC keeps the APEX travelling at a desired speed and direction—uphill, downhill, and on side slopes.

The innovative ATC system is powered by the new AP1 Cortex Microchip, which monitors power requirements from each motor up to 1,000 times per second. This new system also adjusts to different golf bags, allowing smoother response when holding a lightweight bag.

The APEX also features Stewart Golf’s innovative integrated stabilizer, which automatically deploys and retracts when the APEX is opened or closed. As the APEX approaches a gradient, the stabilizer tilts back and continues driving up that hill.

In the APEX, Stewart Golf debuts the longest range in the trolley market. Its second-generation SmartPower Lithium battery now provides enough power for 27 or 45 holes of operation. The plug-and-play battery offers users the ability to monitor usage and capacity in real time using the free Stewart Golf smartphone app.

Other ease-of-use features include ultra-compact folding for easy storage and transport, with a built-in handle that allows for one-handed lifting. New 5S wheels provide increased traction for improved handling, while giving the APEX an eye-catching new look.

The APEX Remote will sell alongside the successful Q Follow and the iconic X10 trolleys, offering customers a choice between three models.

At launch, the trolley will retail from $1899 for either the Black or Carbon Edition. Every new APEX Remote comes with Stewart’s industry-first, 100-hole money-back guarantee, offering golfers the chance to experience a Stewart dream machine completely risk free.

“Our development team has worked tirelessly to provide golfers with a distinctive, innovative remote trolley that truly enhances their game and helps us reach our goal to change how the world plays golf,” says Mark Stewart, CEO of Stewart Golf. “With the forward-thinking technology applied to the APEX, we believe we have a machine that not only looks fantastic, but performs at a level that sets itself apart from anything else out there.”

Shot Scope Introduces the Multi-Function X5 GPS Golf Watch

Designed for On & Off the Golf Course, the Stylish X5 Offers AI-Powered Performance Tracking that Provides Over 100 Statistics, a Built-In Step Counter, Customizable Clockfaces and Color Straps, and Accurate Front, Middle & Back Distances on over 36,000 Preloaded Golf Courses Worldwide

(Edinburgh, UK) — Shot Scope (www.shotscope.com), the industry-leader in advanced GPS and shot tracking technology, today introduced the multi-function X5 GPS Golf Watch, the next generation in the Company’s award-winning performance tracking and distance measuring smart watch technology.  Designed to be worn both on and off the course, the stylish X5 offers AI-powered performance tracking of over 100 statistics with a built-in step counter and accurate, real-time front, middle and back distances to all greens, hazards and doglegs on over 36,000 preloaded golf courses worldwide.

Available at an unbeatable $299.99 price point, the X5 joins Shot Scope’s stable of low-cost, high-tech GPS and performance products that are offered -- unlike leading competitors in the industry -- with NO subscription fees and free firmware updates, including new feature offerings.

Additionally, The X5 is completely customizable allowing golfers to choose from 5 different watch face designs, as well as interchange the color of their strap, for a variety of stylish looks on or off the course. This is complemented by a clear and bright full-color 1.2” touchscreen and multi-function crown that enables quick and easy navigation of menus, with a glare resistant display of large and clear distance numbers (yards or meters) and other data points. Video with Shot Scope X5 features can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FTLBYo9tPU

The launch of X5 comes on the heels of the debut of Shot Scope Academy, a first-of-its-kind game tracking system -- designed specifically for PGA Professionals, golf coaches and teachers -- that uses advanced technology to establish unlimited connectivity between instructors and golfers to track and analyze their performance “on the course.”

The Shot Scope Academy system allows any type of instructor, from amateur teachers to collegiate coaches, to track the performance of a golfer using the Company’s X5 and V3 Smart Watches, or PRO LX+ Rangefinder models, during a round of golf anywhere in the world. Following the round, all data captured from tee to green is seamlessly uploaded where the instructor can view and analyze the round and, in-turn, instantly send game improvement recommendations or lesson plans.

“The X5 GPS Watch is an evolution from the award-winning V3 model, as it takes AI technology to a new level in offering precise distance measuring with unmatched shot tracking that captures accurate data on every shot hit from tee to green, including over 100 statistics for golfers and coaches to analyze every aspect of game performance,” said David Hunter, Chief Executive Officer, Shot Scope. “Equally impressive, X5 features a step counter that provides golfers with an added level of fitness tracking, as well as the ability to personalize X5 with a range of custom watch faces and color straps that truly establishes a multi-function smart golf watch.”

From a GPS standpoint, the X5 offers over 36,000 preloaded courses that are mapped in-house with 48-hour course edits. It is unmatched in accuracy with instant front, middle and back distances to all greens, hazards, lay up points and doglegs. This is complemented by Shot Scope’s PinCollect technology, which allows golfers to record the exact pin location for important and accurate putting statistics. Further, the Green View display provides the shape of the green from any location on the course allowing the golfer to drag and drop the pin to the correct location for the day. Plus, the digital scorecard enables the golfer to keep track of scores during the round.

With regard to game performance tracking, the X5 automatically records every shot hit on the course thanks to Shot Scope’s new and improved, lightweight 2nd generation plug-n-play RFID tracking tags that are embedded with smart GPS chips and easily screw into the butt-end of every club. Unlike other golf performance trackers, X5’s Power-Sense AI strap technology delivers instant syncing, while enabling club recognition with no pairing, phone or tagging required. The tags communicate with the watch and identify what club was hit and its location on the course. As a result, the 16 tracking tags that come with the X5 capture detailed data that provides a breakdown of a golfer’s game and style from over 100 performance statistics including Club Distances, Approaches, Short Game, Putting, Strokes Gained and Handicap Benchmarking.

As the engine of X5, Shot Scope’s Power-Sense AI strap technology works automatically in the background to continuously scan the golfer’s swing settings to optimize performance tracking. The technology creates an ever-increasing volume and accuracy of data collected from the golfer during play, leading to more insights and statistics that help the player, or a coach, understand their game better, improve on-course strategy and shoot lower scores. The more rounds the golfer plays with X5 the smarter the AI technology becomes, eventually producing highly refined settings that are personal to that individual.

Following a round, golfers can instantly sync their X5 device via Bluetooth with the free to download iOS and Android mobile apps. The app and interactive dashboard provide an aerial view of the course for a bird’s-eye perspective and displays all the data captured throughout the round. This enables a golfer, coach or PGA Professional to review and analyze every shot hit from tee to green.

Adds Hunter, “The X5 has no equal in terms of features and benefits, from GPS distances to performance tracking, as well as the step counter and customizable features. Add to this the direct connectivity with a coach or PGA Professional through Shot Scope Academy for post round performance analysis, and golfers have a truly game changing piece of equipment for just $299.99.”

The Shot Scope X5, including customizable strap color options (which are sold separately), can be purchased at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, PGA Superstores, golf specialty stores or online at www.shotscope.com. Full course maps will be available with X5 as part of a future update coming in 2023, as Shot Scope continuously release new features and updates all free of charge to the golfer.

Dundonald Links Further Enhances Reputation with New Best-Of Honors

Achieves Acclaim from International Association of Golf Tour Operators

(AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND) – Dundonald Links continues to ascend on the world golf stage following a trio of notable industry achievements it recently garnered from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

After being named on the elite list of IAGTO’s Outstanding Service Awards 2023, it was announced that the resort had earned top-30 placements in two of Golf World’s Top 100 highly respected lists.

The news is testament to extensive investment in recent years, which has transformed one of Scotland’s most popular golf courses into a world-class resort with an array of luxury facilities and accommodation options.

IAGTO, the global trade organization of the golf tourism industry, presented its annual Outstanding Service Award to fewer than 50 of the world’s finest golf resorts, courses and hotels. The honor was voted for by IAGTO members and recognized destinations that consistently delivered an outstanding customer experience in 2022.

Published by Today’s Golfer, the eagerly anticipated Golf World Top 100 rankings remain one of the most respected resources for golfers who are looking to find the best courses the sport has to offer. Dundonald Links moves up to 30th in the latest edition of the ‘Top 100 Courses Scotland’ list, with the layout awarded an impressive 76 points out of 100. Meanwhile, the resort’s recent transformation has seen it enter the ‘Top 100 Resorts Great Britain and Ireland’ for the first time, ranking an impressive 29th place.

“Every member of our team works hard to ensure that every guest at Dundonald Links leaves having had a truly memorable experience,” said Ian Ferguson, General Manager, Dundonald Links. “It is pleasing to be recognized among the best venues to stay and play in Scotland so soon after completing our transition into a fully-fledged resort.”

Driven by new owners Darwin Escapes, Dundonald Links transformation was spearheaded by the opening of a new clubhouse in 2021. The contemporary building includes the resort’s fine-dining experience, the Canny Crow Restaurant, as well as a state-of-the-art gym, pro shop and bar. Guests can stay in either the elegant hotel or a collection of luxury lodges just a short distance from all the resort’s amenities.

Dundonald Links par-72 course has been one of Scotland’s most popular layouts since a 2003 redesign, which was orchestrated by American architect Kyle Phillips, who has overseen the development of a number of modern-day classics such as Kingsbarns in Fife and The Grove in Hertfordshire. After successfully staging the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open in 2022, the event has been confirmed to return to the resort in 2023, along with Final Qualifying for The Open Championship.

FootJoy Collaborator Jon Bucemi Releases American Single Malt Whiskeys

Luxury whiskey brand’s first entries to American single malt category come in two varieties: rare and ultra-rare

(LOS ANGELES) — Wolves, the luxury whiskey brand founded by culture mavericks James Bond (Undefeated) and Jon Buscemi (Buscemi, Greats, Truff, Oliver Peoples), announces that its first-ever American Single Malt whiskeys, “Lot One” under the brand’s Malted Barley Series banner, will drop Thursday, April 6.

The whiskeys

The definition of American Single Malt whiskey has long been a moving target. In 2022, however, the Tax & Trade Bureau (TTB) proposed new parameters which would require, in part, that to be classified as American Single Malt a spirit must be “distilled from 100% malted barley entirely at one U.S. distillery.”

Wolves acquired a very limited supply of single malt and malted barley whiskeys that were put down in 8 to 12 barrel lots starting in 2011. 13th generation Master Distiller Marko Karakasevic distilled each lot over a 10 day period in a small alembic pot still imported from Cognac, France in 1983. While far less efficient than a column still, the slow, antique pot still yields whiskey with more body, flavor, and viscosity. During distillation, Karakasevic slept in four hour shifts so that he alone could make each cut, selecting ‘the heart of hearts’ for double distillation.

“Marko is an artist…this could be his opus,” noted Buscemi about the Single Malt. “This library of whiskey is insanely good.”

Lot One was distilled in 2015. Eleven of the twelve barrels were blended together by Wolves and bottled at 110-proof (55% ABV). A nose of honey, grapefruit, vanilla, oak, and sandalwood gives way to notes of maple syrup, currants, leather, orange cake, and warm vanilla. The medium-length finish is consistent front to back with steady resolution.

The 12th barrel (barrel #574) was selected as a single barrel release, and bottled at 125-proof (62.5% ABV). The heavy toast cask with Hungarian heads imparted a dark amber color and the darkest of chocolate notes, with a sharpness on the back palate.

“We believe this could be the richest and most complex American Single Malt whiskey ever produced,” noted Wolves CEO Jeremy Joseph. “ASM is an emerging category within the domestic whiskey landscape, and this is a best-in-class example of craftsmanship and flavor within it.”

Sheepskin Labels

As has become a calling card for a brand built by fashion and culture iconoclasts, each bottle in the Wolves Malted Barley Series will be hand-numbered and wrapped by hand in a laser-cut, embossed, sheepskin label printed with UV light, and laid flush on heavy, French-cut glass.

Allocation

All 228 bottles of Wolves’ Lot One single-barrel expression ($350) will be offered privately to certain members on its Allocation List.

The 375 6-packs of the Lot One blended single malt expression (MSRP $289) will be made available through select retailers, as well as through pre-sale to the Wolves Allocation List beginning March 30. Visit www.wolveswhiskeyca.com to register.  Not available in all 50 states.

Focusing on American Single Malt - A New Still

Wolves will continue to offer its signature blend whiskeys, which are uniquely driven by whiskeys made from craft beer, and include American Single Malt in its focus moving forward.

In addition to rolling out its first Single Malt, Wolves has also announced it is erecting a new still in partnership with Marko Karakasevic at its home distillery in Northern California. The new still will allow Wolves to continue its line of unique beer whiskeys and single malt whiskeys into the future and at scale.

SkyGolf Announces Spring Promotion

Discounts on the Award-Winning SX Series Rangefinders and the LX Series GPS Smart Watches

(RIDGELAND, MS) — SkyGolf, maker of SkyCaddie, the most-trusted rangefinders in golf, is offering a special Spring Promotion of $50 off their award-winning rangefinders, including the SX400 and SX550 handheld models and the stylish LX5 and LX5 with ceramic bezel smart watches. The LX2 smart watch is $20 off the new reduced price of $149.95. The promotion runs from March 20 – April 10, 2023.

“Spring is the perfect time to prepare for the upcoming golf season and to ensure you have the proper gear that will help make your return to the course much more enjoyable,” said Jacqui Surman, SkyGolf Senior VP and COO. “One piece of gear every golfer should have in their bag is a rangefinder, which is why we’re offering a limited time discount on the most powerful rangefinders in golf. Our popular SkyCaddie products will not only improve your accuracy, they will also provide you with detailed, reliable information that will help you have more fun on the course.”

All SkyCaddie rangefinders and smart watches are preloaded with over 35,000 best-in-class courses and feature Wi-Fi connectivity to streamline application updates and getting the latest course updates without connecting to a computer.

The large HD displays of the SX rangefinders, combined with HD quality course graphics, only available from SkyCaddie, provide the best view of the most-reliable information in the game to allow you to play your best golf. Unlike other rangefinders, which rely on satellite imagery that is often outdated and unreliable, only SkyCaddie walks the course to capture accurate and verifiable data to provide you with distances you can trust.

The SX550 and SX400 rangefinders include a host of patented technology and stroke-saving features developed by SkyCaddie to help its customers make better decisions on the golf course such as the new Dynamic HoleVue with IntelliPath Technology that provides the distance to target as well as every other relevant attribute of the course, along and beyond your target line, without aiming a laser.

So, now without wasting time to make multiple measurements, such as with a laser, you get distances instantly to all intervening hazards, end of fairways and other shot saving information in an instant to allow you to play like a pro and make the right club selection.

SkyCaddie’s new and patented Dynamic HoleVue feature rotates the fairway and orients the green from your current position and angle of attack as you move from the tee to the green. Now, you see everything between you and the green instantly without touching a button and get the distances you need to avoid hazards and play your best golf. So, in addition to SkyCaddie’s patented IntelliGreen technology, golfers can now see the entire hole from their point-of-view.

With SkyCaddie’s patented IntelliGreen® technology, the exact shape of the green automatically rotates to match your angle of approach to provide all of the distances you need to hit more greens and avoid 3-putts. This proprietary feature gives you a chance to turn every shot into a scoring opportunity by providing front carry and back distances, depth of green, and distances to any other point on the green — simultaneously.

SkyCaddie PinPoint technology will obsolete lasers by providing the ability to get distances to the pin while getting all the benefits of IntelliGreen. Simply enter pin sheet or zone information into the SkyCaddie SX550 or SX400 to get distances to the hole, front, center and back PLUS the depth and true shape green... AND all of this information is on one screen that changes automatically based on your current position and angle of approach from anywhere on the course…whether you can see the flag or not. With the SX Series, you get more information, from more places, easier and faster and without aiming!

A new Shot Tracking feature allows you to track each shot you play, which clubs you used, how far you hit them, and where you hit them from. In addition, an array of automated features such as Auto-Course Selection, Auto-Hole Advance and Auto-Zoom, make the SX rangefinders basically "touch-free" from the parking lot to the 19th hole.

More features include: IntelliGreen Pro that adds the ability to display major tiers, contours, false fronts, and mounds from your angle of approach to the green on selective courses; Shot Distance Measurement to help track how far the ball goes and help golfers to learn club distances; Target List View to give a quick list of all the targets ahead of on the hole; digital scoring options for Stroke and Stableford with handicapping; and Tee Box Selection, Gender Selection, Dual Green Support with a yards or meters option, Stat Tracking and a North Indicator.

Using the same next generation technology found in the SX family of rangefinders, the SkyCaddie LX2, LX5 and LX5C GPS smart watches include most of the dynamic features that golfers rave about in the SX550 and SX400 handhelds, giving golfers the most accurate information conveniently located on their wrist.

Simple wireless connectivity allows for the collection and storage of critical performance data in the SkyGolf 360 Cloud Service, making it available instantly to the user, instructors, or friends.

The promotional period for the SkyCaddie spring discount runs from March 20 through April 10, 2023, and is subject to availability. The discount is only available on new SkyCaddie products, not pre-owned, open box or refurbished products. The offer is open only to U.S. residents and U.S. shipping addresses.

THE R&A AND USGA ANNOUNCE PROPOSAL TO INTRODUCE MODEL LOCAL RULE OPTION FOR GOLF BALLS USED IN ELITE COMPETITIONS

Proposed change to golf ball testing conditions
Aimed at elite players with no impact on the majority of golfers
No change to the general rules on Equipment Standards at this time

(St Andrews, Scotland and Liberty Corner, N.J., USA) — The R&A and USGA have proposed a Model Local Rule (MLR) that gives competition organisers the option to require use of golf balls that are tested under modified launch conditions to address the impacts of hitting distance in golf.

The MLR is intended for use only in elite competitions and, if adopted, will have no impact on recreational golf.

The proposal notice, which can be found here, was sent to golf equipment manufacturers yesterday, following the Equipment Rulemaking Procedures established by the governing bodies in 2011.  Manufacturers and golf stakeholders can provide feedback until 14 August 2023. If adopted, the proposal would take effect in January 2026.

Golf balls that conform to the MLR must not exceed the current Overall Distance Standard (ODS) limit of 317 yards (plus three yards tolerance) at modified Actual Launch Conditions (ALC) with a clubhead speed of 127 mph and based on a calibration set-up for 11 degrees and 37 revolutions per second (2220 rpm) as part of this proposal.

All other balls, including those typically used by recreational golfers with lower swing speeds, would continue to be tested using the existing ALC values (120 mph, and a calibration set-up of 10 degrees and 42 revolutions per second – 2520 rpm). The current ODS limit of 317 yards will remain unchanged and would be applied to both testing set-ups.

The Overall Distance Standard was established in 1976 as a ball test intended to reflect maximum potential hitting distance by the longest hitters currently playing the game.

There is a direct correlation between clubhead speed and hitting distance (further research having been published in the Distance Insights reports). Over the last 20 years hitting distance has increased on average by around one yard per year.

The modified testing set-up in the proposed MLR is expected to reduce hitting distance by 14-15 yards on average for the longest hitters with the highest clubhead speeds.

Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, said, “We have worked closely with the golf industry throughout this process and taken time to listen carefully to their perspectives and reflect on the helpful and constructive feedback they have provided. At the core of our proposal is a desire to minimise the impact on a flourishing recreational game. We believe the proposed Model Local Rule will help us move forward in a way that protects the inherent qualities of the sport and reduces the pressure to lengthen courses. This is an important issue for golf and one which needs to be addressed if the sport is to retain its unique challenge and appeal.”

“Hitting distances at the elite level of the game have consistently increased over the past 20, 40, and 60 years. It’s been two decades since we last revisited our testing standards for ball distances. Predictable, continued increases will become a significant issue for the next generation if not addressed soon. The MLR we are proposing is simple to implement, forward-looking and does so without any impact on the recreational game,” said Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA. “We are taking the next steps in this process, guided first and foremost by doing what’s right by the entire game.”

The governing bodies have consulted closely with the golf industry throughout the Distance Insights project, which commenced in 2018 but has been of continual study over at least the last two decades. This is the fourth formal feedback period to be opened in the last five years, in addition to continuing stakeholder engagement across the game, including golfers, fans, competition organisers, equipment manufacturers, golf course owners, superintendents, architects and others.

Based on feedback received from manufacturers, The R&A and the USGA are no longer considering the use of launch conditions that are optimised for each individual golf ball model to evaluate conformance.  Similarly, they are not pursuing a reduction in the characteristic time limit in the existing Equipment Standards or changes to the Moment of Inertia limit of drivers at this time.

The R&A and USGA set out to address the long-term trend of increased hitting distances and course lengthening that they believe threaten golf’s long-term sustainability and undermines the core principle that a broad and balanced set of playing skills should remain the primary determinant of success in golf.

The findings of extensive research by the governing bodies into distance (along with the supporting research and data) were set out within the Distance Insights report into the Implications of Hitting Distance in February 2020 under two key themes: the pressure on courses to continue to lengthen and ensuring that distance did not become predominant in the balance of skills required in golf.

The report also found that the overall trend of golf courses becoming longer has adverse consequences, including by increasing the cost and time to play, limiting the advancement of sustainability efforts and reducing the challenge of courses - in some cases creating a risk of them becoming obsolete.

The 2022 Annual Driving Distance Report, which aggregates hitting distance data reported by seven professional men’s and women’s tours worldwide, has also been released, and can be found here.

Data provided for the report showed that the average clubhead speed on the PGA TOUR was 114.6 mph last year, with an average launch angle of 10.3° and average spin of 2597 rpm. The mean of the fastest one percent of clubhead speeds was 127.5 mph in 2022, while the mean of the fastest five percent of clubhead speeds was 124.2 mph.

The Annual Driving Distance Report also reports a 4 percent average year-over-year increase in hitting distance across all seven tours, with all but the Japan Golf Tour and LPGA Tour reporting the longest values on record.  The Korn Ferry Tour recorded the highest annual hitting average across all tours in 2022, at 307.8 yards.

Golf Simulators Gain Popularity in Residential and Commercial Spaces

(Toledo, OH)
– Playing indoor golf is one of the hottest trends in the golf industry. A recent report by Straits Research valued the golf simulator market at $1.3 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $3.3 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 10.1%. Golf Simulators are not just for commercial businesses or the rich and famous. The simulator space has been dramatically expanding and becoming more affordable in the last ten years.

Indoor multi-sport and golf simulator commercial play is booming. Food and entertainment businesses like Topgolf Swing Suite, X-Golf, and 5-Iron Golf have seen remarkable growth, with Topgolf indoor suites growing from 29 stores in 2019 to 120 plus locations. The development of indoor golf is not limited to commercial businesses. Recent technology advances in launch monitors have made home golf simulators more reliable and affordable, driving growth in residential installations as well.

One company, Ace Indoor Golf, a leading golf simulator manufacturer and retailer in the United States, grew its business by more than 50% last year due to the popularity of home golf simulators. The company designs, sells, installs, and provides maintenance of golf simulators to businesses, golf clubs, individuals, golf teams, sim manufacturers, and the prominent golf retailers like PGA Tour Superstores and 5-Iron Golf. The company offers turnkey custom-designed solutions and “Do-It-Yourself” (DIY), off-the-shelf packages that fit golfers’ needs at every price point.

Trevor Faust, Ace Indoor Golf’s president, has some excellent advice for golfers looking to put a simulator in their home. “For the DIYer, take your time, do the necessary research, and ask a lot of questions to be sure all of your components will work together correctly. The launch monitor, computer, hitting bay, projector, and screen must work together to provide a safe and enjoyable golf experience. Last, if your skills aren’t in building and technology, I’d suggest hiring a professional installer to prevent mistakes in your simulator setup that can cost you thousands of dollars.”

The combination of consumer demand, affordability, and technological improvements has made simulator golf more popular than ever. Are you looking to install a residential or commercial golf simulator? Ace Indoor Golf offers a variety of options and brands to accommodate every need.
