(CARLSBAD, Calif.) – Omni La Costa Resort & Spa has won the prestigious Gold Medal Resort Award from GOLF Magazine, joining elite company throughout North America on the Gold Medal list of honorees for 2014-2015.
Part of the magazine’s “Premier Resorts” issue (March 2014), the biennial rankings are based on four criteria: golf, lodging, food and drink, and service. Forty percent of the resort recognition is based on golf, where voters considered factors such as challenge, playability, scenery, history, facilities and service. The rest of the score was equally weighted among lodging, food and drink and overall service at the resort.
“We are honored and proud to be ranked by GOLF Magazine and receive the gold medal honor for the second time in a row,” said Paul McCormick, managing director at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. “This award, along with being ranked the No. 1 Wellness Spa in the Nation by Spa magazine, puts Omni La Costa in a class of its own.”
Synonymous with the top echelon of golf for more than 40 years, Omni La Costa’s history and tradition includes hosting 37 PGA Tour events, the LPGA Tour and a variety of celebrity pro-am events. Omni La Costa has been tested by the legendary names in the game, from Palmer and Nicklaus to Mickelson and Woods. The golf resort will play host to the California State Amateur this June 16-21.
Since the last golf medal ranking Omni La Costa’s Legends Course was remodeled by the design team of Damian Pascuzzo and Steve Pate, who created two distinctive golf experiences on classic golf courses that reflect the resort’s golf history which dates back to 1965.
The Legends Course offers a redesign of all 18 greens, as well as all-new bunkering and the planting of paspalum turfgrass in the fairways. Legends is more spacious than Champions, with a more open look, while providing a complementary set of strategic challenges and a variety of visual encounters.
In recognizing the greatest golf destinations in North America, GOLF Magazine lists only properties that excel in course design and playability, while providing luxurious accommodations. The “Premier Resorts” issue is now available in print and online at www.golf.com.
