(Laredo, Texas) – The Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course in Laredo has announced the hiring of Clema Owen as the new general manager for this city-owned course that both Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine named a Best New Course for 2013.
Prior to joining The MAX, Owen spent 13 years in hotel sales and also managed properties for La Quinta, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites and Embassy Suites.
“Our success is defined by our ability to bring the best qualified talent to The MAX, and we’re fortunate to have attracted Clema to the team,” said Horacio De Leon, Jr., Assistant City Manager, City of Laredo. “She has the skill, experience, dedication and South Texas hospitality expertise to capably oversee operations at The MAX, which in addition to golf includes dining and special events.”
In her role as general manager of The MAX, she will be interfacing with a number of important Laredo community organizations including: the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, Laredo Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Gateway Rotary, Laredo Toastmasters, Laredo Logistics and Manufacturing, Texas A&M University Western Hemisphere College of Business Board of Directors, and UT Health Science Center.
Owen has three daughters, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She credits her late husband, Chuck Owen, with providing her with the love, support and vision to live her dreams.
