PGA TOUR Champions Finale in Arizona with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship; Any of Top-5 in Current Standings Guaranteed Season-Long Title with a Win This Week
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The PGA TOUR Champions season will culminate this week at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Arizona, with points leader Bernhard Langer – and each of the top-5 in the standings – guaranteed the $1 million Charles Schwab Cup prize with a victory this week. The European Tour’s Final Series continues with its second-leg at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa, as Henrik Stenson (World No. 4) headlines the field. The PGA TOUR heads south to Mexico for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, where Jim Furyk and Russell Knox lead the field.

Top-36 in Charles Schwab Cup standings vying for season-long title: 36 players are eligible to compete based on their position in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. The money list has been converted to points for the playoffs, with the top-36 in the standings advancing to this week’s season-culminating Charles Schwab Cup Championship. The field has been increased from 30 to 36 players this year, and has been reduced from 72 to 54 holes. It is the first time since 1993 that the event will be staged as a 54-hole tournament. The top-five players in the Charles Schwab Cup standings at week’s end will receive part of a $2.1 million annuity, with the winner earning $1 million.
Top-5 in standings would win Charles Schwab Cup with a victory this week: Modeled after the PGA TOUR’s Tour Championship– in which the top-5 players in the standings are guaranteed to win the FedExCup with a win at East Lake Golf Club – the current top-5 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings are guaranteed to win the season-long Charles Schwab Cup with a victory at Desert Mountain. The current top-5 includes: Bernhard Langer (No. 1), Scott McCarron (No. 2), Colin Montgomerie (No. 3), Joe Durant (No. 4), and Miguel Angel Jimenez (No. 5).
