The Caddie Makes the Call: Michael Collins Signs New ESPN Deal

With one of the most unique backgrounds in sports media, Michael Collins brings a different perspective to ESPN viewers and readers when he reports on golf. And with a new ESPN deal signed and sealed, he’ll be doing it for years to come.

Collins’ entertaining reporting reflects his 20-year career as a standup comedian, but his vast knowledge of the sport as a former professional caddie adds depth and credibility. And his easy rapport with athletes often generates reactions not heard anywhere else.

With his new deal, Collins will continue his golf coverage for but also the Matty and the Caddie podcast he does with SportsCenter anchor Matt Barrie. He also has appeared on numerous ESPN programs and platforms including Get Up!, SportsCenter, First Take and ESPN Radio to discuss golf and other topics.

Collins, who has been with ESPN since 2011, will be on-site to cover the LPGA’s Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions this weekend in Orlando and then the following week he will be at the PGA TOUR Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego. Tiger Woods is expected to make his 2019 debut in that event.

In the video above, Collins lists his Top 3 reasons for being happy to continue his work with ESPN.

Indi Golf Introduces New ATK Grind Wedges

(VISTA, CA) – Indi Golf, design and manufacturer of high-performance golf clubs, introduces new ATK Grind wedges to give players more shot-making options. The ATK Grind will be launched at the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show January 23 through January 25 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Indi Golf is part of the International Clubmakers Guild and will be exhibiting with them at the Demo Day on Tee #5 on January 22, 2019 and at the convention center in Room #W209B.

“We’re committed to designing quality products that will help golfers perform at their best and enjoy the game more,” said Rob Lang, General Manager, Indi Golf. “Our new ATK Grind, which is short for Attack, allows us to provide an option for players needing more bounce and turf forgiveness on square face shots.”

The ATK Grind has been designed with more heel, toe and trailing edge relief to allow for increased shot making. This allows the player to open the face and the leading edge will remain the same distance from the ground as if in a square club face position, yielding a consistent look and increased confidence.

"This new grind is an addition to our current grind that has been very well received and successful,” added Lang. The ATK Grind is designed with Indi Golf’s ScoopBack, TractionFace, and LaunchControl technologies, maintaining Indi’s legendary forgiveness, spin, and control. The ATK Grind will feature a new matte black finish and will be available in both the StingRay and StingRay TT models.

Indi Golf’s proprietary ScoopBack design creates maximum forgiveness by moving mass higher in the face, and toward the toe.  This optimizes the location of the club’s CG, making the head more stable on off-center contact, helping shots feel better, go straighter, spin more and end up closer to the hole.  The ScoopBack design is not a muscle back or perimeter-weighted design but is a combination that brings the player the best of both worlds.

TractionFace technology uses a proprietary open square groove shape and pattern to create tremendous backspin and optimal launch conditions.  These aggressive box grooves increase spin by 50% and are so effective that the StingRay wedge exceeds the performance limits outlined in the Rules of Golf, making them ideal for recreational golfers. StingRay TT remixes TractionFace technology with another revolutionary groove shape and pattern to optimize launch and increase backspin by 20% on a full swing while Conforming to the Rules of Golf.

Other features of the ATK Grind wedges designed to improve performance include:
- LaunchControl – A lower launch and higher spin combination allows golfers to be more aggressive and reduces the influence of elements on the ball.
- ShortHosel - Creates discretionary weight that has been position higher in the face and more towards the toe, resulting in higher performance, better feel, and more forgiveness.
- Optimized Bounce - Allows the head to glide through the turf yielding solid contact for the grooves to grab the ball and impart maximum spin while producing ideal launch conditions.

The ATK Grind StingRay TT Wedges are available in 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60-degree lofts. They conform with the Rules of Golf. The ATK Grind StingRay Wedges are offered in 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60-degree lofts. They do not conform with the Rules of Golf. MSRP is $159.99 for all models.

Golf Advisor Ranks Two Myrtle Beach Courses Among America’s Top 50 Public Layouts

Rankings Were Based on 144,000 Golfer Generated Reviews

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) -  Golf Advisor, Golf Channel’s travel portal, has released its ranking of America’s Top 50 Public Courses, based on the evaluation the game’s most important ratings panel – golfers – and a pair of Myrtle Beach courses made the list.

Golf Advisor ranked Caledonia Golf & Fish Club as the nation’s 33rd best public course in 2018 and TPC Myrtle Beach was 49th. The rankings were compiled based on the reviews of 144,000 golfers, and courses were evaluated based on value, conditions, layout, pace of play, friendliness and off-course amenities.

A consensus top 100 public course, Caledonia is renowned for its lowcountry beauty and pristine conditions. The Mike Strantz design plays through land that was once home to a thriving rice plantation.

The live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, the marshy waters of the Waccamaw Neck, and Strantz’s architectural brilliance combine to make Caledonia one of America’s premier public golf experiences.

Golf Advisor also ranked the top 25 courses in the nation based on conditioning, and Caledonia was 12th on that list.

TPC Myrtle Beach, which is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2019, has been among the area’s premier courses since its opening. The Tom Fazio design, which hosted a Senior PGA Tour Championship, was the long-time home of PGA Tour superstar Dustin Johnson and remains the home of his namesake golf school.

Golf Digest has ranked TPC Myrtle Beach among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, and the experience reaches its peak with two of the area’s strongest finishing holes. The par 3 17th hole plays to a peninsula green and the 18th is a risk-reward par 5 that provides a dramatic close to a memorable round.

Golf Advisor also ranked the best public courses in each state, based on reader evaluations, and eight Grand Strand layouts finished among South Carolina’s top 25. Caledonia and TPC were second and third, followed by the Dunes Golf & Beach Club (No. 7), Avocet Course at Wild Wing Plantation (No. 9), Barefoot Resort’s Dye Course (No. 18), Tidewater Golf Club (No. 22) and Prestwick Country Club (No. 24).

Topgolf and NBC Sports Group Announce Strategic Technology Partnership

Toptracer Now Exclusive Shot-Tracking Technology for NBC Sports’ PGA TOUR Telecasts

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – Topgolf Entertainment Group and NBC Sports Group today announced a new strategic technology partnership designed to bring golf fans closer to the sport through enhanced PGA TOUR tournament coverage and modernizing experiences at local golf facilities through the cutting-edge technology of Toptracer. The announcement was made jointly by Erik Anderson, Topgolf executive chairman and Ben Sharpe, Toptracer president; along with Mike McCarley, president, GOLF, NBC Sports and Will McIntosh, executive vice president of strategy, GOLF, NBC Sports.

“Topgolf has always been committed to bettering the industry through technology, be that enhancing the guest experience at our venues, improving PGA TOUR broadcasts through innovations like Toptracer, or helping driving range operators transform their facilities into entertainment destinations with Toptracer Range,” said Sharpe. “This partnership further enhances our efforts to provide golf fans exciting ways to watch, play and enjoy this wonderful game.”

“Topgolf and NBC Sports are two companies focused on technical innovation across the golf industry,” said McCarley. “This forward-thinking partnership allows us to combine our strengths to modernize how fans engage with golf. We’re thrilled to expand our partnership for high-quality PGA TOUR coverage, but we’re equally excited to showcase technology like Toptracer Range for golf courses to help evolve the golf experience for the future and bring new fans to the sport.”

Topgolf and NBC Sports’ new multi-year agreement includes the expansion of Toptracer as the exclusive ball-tracking technology for NBC Sports’ PGA TOUR telecasts on GOLF Channel and NBC, as well as Golf Central wraparound news coverage from golf’s biggest events. In addition, Topgolf and NBC Sports will collaborate on future programming and content development initiatives.

NBC Sports will now have the capability to utilize Toptracer on all 18 holes during its PGA TOUR coverage in 2019 starting with the Waste Management Phoenix Open (Jan. 31-Feb. 3). Toptracer will be featured during tee shots either via live video or via NBC Virtual Follow, a live trace over a graphic representation of the hole. Toptracer also will be featured on fairway shots via two radio frequency (RF) cameras that can travel anywhere on the course. Topgolf’s premier driving range technology, Toptracer Range, also will be the exclusive shot-tracking technology for Golf Central wraparound news coverage on-site on the driving ranges from golf’s biggest events.

Toptracer technology tracks the flight of a golf ball within a camera feed, as well as provides real-time 3D ball flight data analytics such as ball speed, apex, curve and carry that is integrated into virtual graphics.

As part of this new partnership with NBC Sports Group, GOLFNOW and Topgolf’s sales teams will collaborate to introduce Toptracer Range to golf facilities worldwide.

Toptracer Range helps traditional facilities attract both avid and novice players by transforming driving ranges into practice and entertainment destinations. It combines tech and fun to create a superior experience that is perfect for all skill levels, allowing friends and family to compete in a variety of games or play virtual golf on simulated courses.

Cameras mounted around the facility interact with in-bay monitors to display an array of details on each shot, providing data similar to what is seen each week on the PGA TOUR. The information is instantly recorded and displayed on the screen through a player profile that can continuously be accessed via the Toptracer Range community application (free on iOS and Android). This allows golfers to track their progress throughout the season.

“Golf is growing, in part, because people are consuming the sport in different ways, and we’re in the business of helping our golf course partners leverage these new concepts to attract more golfers to their facilities and build their businesses,” said McIntosh. “Toptracer Range is a perfect example, and we’re looking forward to showcasing this new technology to our partners around the world.”

GOLFNOW will now sell Toptracer Range as part of its offerings, providing golf facilities with the same ball-tracking technology that traces the shots of the game’s best players on television and further expanding Topgolf’s footprint to golf facilities worldwide. This initiative will complement the recent integration of Topgolf into GOLFNOW’s website and mobile application, which currently allows more than 3.5 million registered users to book reservations at select Topgolf venues through its world’s largest online tee-time platform. GOLFNOW helps golfers and golf courses better connect through the world’s largest online tee-time marketplace – which facilitated the booking of more than 16 million rounds of golf in 2018 – and via the technology and services it provides to its nearly 8,000 golf course partners in 26 countries around the world.

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The next wave of GOLF Advisor’s “Best of” lists were revealed this week, showcasing the top golf courses in the United States that best cater to the ever-changing tastes of recreational golfers.

The "Best of" lists feature the top-25 courses in separate categories, determined by specific criteria, including: Top 25 Most Improved Courses; Top 25 Courses Rated by Value; Top 25 Course Layouts in the U.S.; Top 25 Courses for Staff Friendliness; Top-Rated Courses for Pace of Play; Top 25 Courses Rated by Conditions; Top 25 Courses for Off-Course Amenities; and Top Courses by State.

“What really separates our review platform from other consumer review sites, like Yelp, Google and TripAdvisor, is that not only is our reviewer base full of avid golfers, but our platform lets golfers drill down into these subcategories,” said GOLF Advisor Senior Managing Editor Brandon Tucker. “This level of detail is unmatched in the golf review industry and provides a much more thorough idea of what the total golf experience is like from the parking lot to 19th hole.”

More than 2,800 golf courses of the 144,000-plus courses reviewed on GOLF Advisor in 2018 were considered, having received the minimum 10 reviews to qualify.

Unlike golf course rankings published by industry insiders who have access to golf courses the public may never have the opportunity to play, these GOLF Advisor “Best of” lists are totally consumer driven – by recreational golfers, for recreational golfers. Ages, handicaps and budgets of golfers using the website run the gamut, so the more than 825,000 reviews GOLF Advisor has accumulated showcase the golf course characteristics that are the most important to avid golfers across the country.

The GOLF Advisor online destination grew rapidly in 2018, with user traffic to the website hit all-time highs for four consecutive months during the year. Kuchar Continues Bridgestone TOUR B Hot Streak With Sony Open Win

Fan Favorite Matt Kuchar Relies on Bridgestone TOUR B X Ball and Full Arsenal of Bridgestone Clubs in His 2nd Victory of the Season, and the 7th for the Bridgestone Tour Team Since August

(COVINGTON, GA) – Continuing the brand’s tremendous momentum, Bridgestone Golf Tour star Matt Kuchar kicked off 2019 in much the same way he ended his 2018 golf year, winning in convincing fashion in a tropical paradise. The win is Bridgestone’s 7th in the last 15 events played, making the TOUR B family of the balls the winningest on the PGA TOUR over the last 5 months. This time, the victory was set against the picturesque backdrop of Waialae Country Club, as the “Smiling Assassin” took home the 2019 Sony Open in Hawaii championship, winning by 4 shots. The win in Honolulu is Kuchar’s 2nd of the young season and 9th for his career, vaulting him into 2nd place in the early season FedEx Cup point standings.

Using Bridgestone Golf’s TOUR B X ball and a full bag of Bridgestone clubs, the fan favorite showcased pinpoint accuracy on his approach shots and precision off the tee throughout the week in Hawaii. In fact, Kuchar who tightened his dispersion off the tee with the TOUR B JGR Driver and TOUR B X ball during the fall season, continued that trend, finishing 5th in the field in Driving Accuracy for the week. Further displaying the feel and control of the TOUR B X ball, Kuchar also finished 1st in greens-in-regulation, hitting an astonishing 83% for the week. On the rare occasion when he didn’t hit a green in regulation, the TOUR B X provided incredible feel and spin on his recovery shots, as Kuchar got up-and-down 75% of the time, finishing in the top 10 in the scrambling category, as well.  In a dominating performance, Kuchar recorded top 10 finishes in birdies; eagles; strokes gained: off the tee; strokes gained: approach to the green; strokes gained: putting; strokes gained: tee-to-green; strokes gained: total; greens in regulation; sand saves and putts per green in regulation. For the week, Kuchar carded 4 rounds in the 60s (63-63-66-66) for a tournament best 22-under par.

“The season couldn’t have started off better for me with two victories out of the gates,” said Kuchar. “It really is helpful in taming those Hawaiian tradewinds to have such an incredible golf ball that just cuts through the breezes. I am excited to return to the winner’s circle so quickly, and I am equally happy to help Bridgestone continue its winning ways into the new year.”

The rundown of Bridgestone equipment used in Kuchar’s win in Honolulu is as follows:
· TOUR B X golf ball
· TOUR B JGR 9.5-degree Driver
· TOUR B XD-H 18-degree 2-Hybrid
· J15 CB Irons (5-PW)
· J40 52-degree Wedge

“Wow, Kuch really is making 40 look like the new 20, winning 2 of his last 3 starts,” said Dan Murphy, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. “Right now, the Bridgestone Tour team is firing on all cylinders, winning at nearly a 50% rate since August.  Our TOUR B Balls have garnered 7 PGA TOUR victories over the last 15 events with our nearest competitors capturing 3 each.  Given that our Tour team is all about quality and not quantity, this has been a great David vs. Goliath story.”

The TOUR B golf ball series is a result of Bridgestone’s continued commitment to providing premium tee-to-green performance to players of varying swing types. Bridgestone owns over 800 golf ball patents and fully leverages the company’s heritage of excellence in polymer science worldwide to design the industry’s most cutting-edge golf balls.

Sacks Parente Golf Introduces Series 39 Blade Putters

(CAMARILLO, CA) – Sacks Parente Golf Company, builders of exceptional putters that defy convention, introduces its innovative new Series 39 blade putter. Available in both a Players Edition and a Tour Edition, the Series 39 putters feature Sacks Parente’s patented Ultra Low Balance Point (ULBP) technology that lowers the balance point along the shaft between the sole and a point not more than 5 inches above the sole, causing the putter head to square and release at impact, delivering exceptional rollout and accuracy.

The Series 39 features extreme perimeter weighting using lightweight face inserts along with more tungsten in the toe and heel than any other putter, resulting in a true blade with a higher MOI than most mallet putters. The flawlessly balanced 39 features a perfectly placed center of gravity which stabilizes the head while in motion and through impact, eliminating gear effect and side spin. The result is an exceptional putting instrument that will allow golfers of all skill levels to make more putts.

The Series 39 Tour Edition is made from 316L surgical steel, featuring a light weight face insert made from AL24, Sacks Parente’s proprietary alloy material, that absorbs vibration 100 times better than steel. To maximize the MOI, the Series 39 has over 120 grams of high-density tungsten strategically located in the faces at the heel and toe.

“To our knowledge, 120 grams of tungsten is the most tungsten ever placed in a putter head to influence its playability and MOI,” said Rich Parente, Co-Founder of Sacks Parente Golf. “This weighting helps diminish putter twist, resulting in far less energy loss and more accurate ball rollout even on putts hit off center.”

Sacks Parente has numerous patents and patents pending in regard to the science associated with their game-changing putter technology.

“Our putters are designed, engineered and crafted from only the finest steels, alloys, aluminums, composites and tungsten,” added Parente. “They are assembled with rigorous attention to detail and every component is produced to the most exacting standards possible.”

Sacks Parente uses a standard head weight of 350-360 grams and has focused on technologically advanced shaft and grip design to solidify their ULBP technology. Sacks Parente shafts have been engineered from the ground up to meet specifications never before contemplated in a putter shaft. These shafts weigh between 30-35 grams, are extremely stiff, and transmit a feel not achievable with steel. Achieving this level of performance at less than 1/3 the weight of a typical steel shaft is an engineering marvel that translates to more putts made.

At an average weight of 30 grams Sacks Parente grips are less than half the weight of typical grips found in today’s market. These unique grips are designed and engineered to enable the ULBP technology, and to also meet the SPG specific requirements for feel and comfort. They come in three variations, to meet every golfer’s unique grip style.

“It’s not often that you have legends of the golf industry come together to create a business,” said Tim Triplett, CEO of Sacks Parente Golf. “In the case of Sacks Parente Golf Company, we have combined the talents, commitment and drive of two legends in golf, Steve Sacks and Rich Parente. After years in development, we are excited to introduce our new line of putters that defy convention and actually improve a player’s game.”

Sacks Parente Golf is participating in the PGA Show Demo Day at Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Florida on Tuesday, January 22 and will exhibit in booth #1010 January 23 through January 25 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Buyers, distributors and media are invited to visit the company during demo day and during the PGA Show to view and experience the Sacks Parente technology. Rich and Steve will be on hand to demonstrate the technologies incorporated and answer questions.

Scotty Cameron Introduces New Select Fastback 2 and Squareback 1.5 Putters

Tour-Proven Mid-Mallets Add Key Neck Configurations to Scotty’s Flagship Lineup

(FAIRHAVEN, Mass.) – Scotty Cameron has added two new mid-mallet models to his flagship line of Select putters – the Select Fastback 2 and Select Squareback 1.5 – developed through feedback from the game’s best players.

Available in golf shops worldwide beginning Feb. 15, the new Select models provide additional mid-mallet options for players seeking Scotty’s popular Fastback and Squareback head styles with specific neck configurations and performance characteristics:
• Select Fastback 2: Following the introduction of the 2018 Select Fastback model on the worldwide professional golf tours, players immediately asked Scotty for one option – a plumbing neck. The familiar, confidence-inspiring setup, which provides one shaft of offset, has been incorporated into this rounded mid-mallet. In addition to the new neck, subtle refinements have been made to the topline for a slightly thinner look, as well as a reduction of face height.
• Select Squareback 1.5: Scotty’s new Squareback 1.5 incorporates a new mini-slant neck that further squares off the overall shape and look at address for the player seeking clean, distinct visual cues. Additionally, the draft angle has been updated to accommodate the new neck, which also produces slightly more toe flow than its mid-bend counterpart, the Select Squareback. Similar to the Fastback 2, Scotty shaved some topline thickness for a thinner appearance from address, and reduced the overall face height.

Both models adopt the Select line’s tour-proven multi-material construction with a precision milled, MOI-enhancing 6061 aircraft aluminum face-sole component expertly designed into the 303 stainless steel putter head.

QUOTING MASTER CRAFTSMAN SCOTTY CAMERON: “Extending the Select line was all about taking the feedback we got from players and incorporating it into new offerings. Shortly after we introduced the 2018 Fastback and Squareback models on tour, players began asking for them with prototype necks. We are seeing more and more players gravitate to these nice, compact head shapes. They’re not blades and not exactly mallets. We call them mid-mallets. By creating the Fastback 2 with a plumbing neck, and the Squareback 1.5 with our mini-slant neck, we’re giving players everything they asked for and more.”

SELECT WEIGHTING & ACCESSORIES: The Fastback 2 and Squareback 1.5 feature Select-line advanced stability weighting with two, customizable stainless steel heel-toe weights, stepless steel shafts and supple Black & Silver Matador Mid-size grips developed to offer the comfort of a larger grip while maintaining responsiveness and feel.

REFINED AESTHETICS: Every putter in the Select line features a raw stainless steel finish with a unique bead blast for a radiant yet glare resistant appearance. Smaller, double-milled “cherry dots” on the sole of the Fastback 2 and the heel and sole of the Squareback 1.5 – inspired by Scotty’s familiar three bright translucent red dot theme – with simplified, engraved typography represents this modern, refined line.

AVAILABILITY: Select Fastback 2 and Squareback 1.5 putters will be available on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 worldwide through Titleist authorized golf shops. MAP $399.

Out is In for 2019 Outer Banks Golf

(OUTER BANKS, NC) – Those looking for an ideal 2019 golf escape should get ready to bask in Coastal Carolina warmth and sunshine — with a wee bit of influence from ocean breezes. In recent years, North Carolina’s fabled Outer Banks (OBX) have begun to transform themselves into a true golf destination offering an array of courses more closely tied to nature’s coastal elements than most along the East Coast.

“The Outer Banks has everything a golfer is looking for when going on a golf vacation – well-manicured courses, great restaurants, a variety of housing options and unique activities other than golf,” says long-time Kilmarlic Golf Club Director of Golf Bryan Sullivan, a former North-South Amateur champion and an All-American at the University of North Carolina.

Sullivan’s Kilmarlic Golf Club, also boasting a collection of new golf cottages, is a popular Tom Steele design nestled along the marshland of the Albemarle Sound and host course for both the 2004 and 2009 North Carolina Opens. The wonderful mainland course provides a pure OBX layout with water and wetlands virtually in play at all times.

Host to an annual autumn collegiate event, Kilmarlic is also ideally located just five miles west of the bridge that connects the mainland to the barrier island.

“In 10 minutes,” Sullivan says, “I can have my feet in the Atlantic Ocean.”

In terms of its setting, with several holes playing along a rugged coastline Nags Head Golf Links is one of the most exposed golf facilities to the wind along the state’s coast. A Scottish-style course, Nags Head GL is also considered one of the finest. The capricious breezes off sound-side waters create different challenges every time you play it.

Designed by Bob Moore — who clearly followed the adage “don’t mess with Mother Nature” when crafting this gem — the Nags Head layout incorporates the best of links-style golf against a backdrop as dramatic as you’ll find anywhere up and down the Atlantic Seaboard.

The front and back nine closing holes along the sound are particularly spectacular. Nags Head’s bar and restaurant, not surprisingly, is home to the most dramatic sunsets in town, with views not only across the immediate Roanoke Sound, but towards three other sounds (Albemarle, Croatan and Pamlico) that flow into it from the north, west and south as well.

Currituck Club is “sculpted on the type of land where golf began,” says its architect, the renowned Rees Jones, who designed a 6,800-yard masterpiece among 600 acres of dunes, wetlands, maritime forests and sound seascapes. There is, not surprisingly, plenty of water on the course, most of it on the front nine, but unlike Nags Head, most of the water at Currituck Club comes in the form of marsh and wetlands.

Jones is known for moving large amounts of dirt during construction, which is part of the reason his finished product offers a true, championship feel. You won’t find a weak hole at Currituck and the par-3s are particularly stunning, including two that play over water. The best is arguably the signature sixth, located at the hub of the front nine where four holes converge, which plays anywhere from 150 to 200 yards over water, with stunning views of the sound off in the background.

Currituck Club is demanding from tee to green, with undulating fairways that require an accurate tee shot and large, contoured greens that make lag putting among the most challenging elements of the design. Like its OBX brethren, Currituck Club plays longer than its yardage might indicate, as it is designed directly at sea level and is bolstered by constant wind especially along the homeward stretch, where the breeze is almost always in the golfer’s face.

The Pointe Golf Club is located on the rural mainland side of OBX and across the four-lane highway from Kilmarlic. A traditional Russell Breeden design, the course is also said to be the first in the country to have the A-1 bentgrass — a dense, disease-resistant strain — installed across its corridors.

This, of course, is only natural given that the site is a former turf farm combined with rolling farmland. In addition, the management at The Pointe has always devoted itself to providing the finest course conditions imaginable.

The Pointe is also the area’s most player-friendly design and features a peaceful setting with no houses. In fact, it is the only course in the area that is not in a residential community. At a par of 71 with five par-3s, The Pointe can usually be played in four hours, which means more time back at the beach.

Meanwhile, the seventh hole at The Carolina Club is one of the most memorable offerings along the entire North Carolina coast. An island green aged to perfection can create that kind of legend. The 166-yard one-shotter features a TPC Sawgrass-type island green with water, water everywhere. It’s truly an experience to be had.

Still, The Carolina Club is more than a one-hole wonder. As the longest OBX course, it will delight you with liquid challenges that are often compounded by ever-shifting ocean breezes. The Pointe’s sister course features a strong mix of holes with several scenic par-3s (in addition to its signature island green No. 7) and two good risk-reward par-5s to complete each nine.

The Carolina Club’s positioning as the first course heading into town from the north and last one on the way out makes it the ideal play on either side of your OBX golf vacation.

Outer Banks 2019 golf package and travel planning information is available at or 800-916-6244.

Abu Dhabi Celebrates Inaugural Year as Rolex Series Event

(Geneva, Switzerland) – The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA will make its debut as a Rolex Series event when the 2019 edition takes place from 16–19 January. First staged in 2006, it has been elevated to the top tier of events on the European Tour, featuring the best players in the world for four days of high intensity golf.

The showpiece tournament becomes the second in the UAE to be awarded Rolex Series status, joining the DP World Tour Championship, the finale of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.

Rolex Testimonee and three-time Major winner Brooks Koepka will be competing at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, aiming to clinch his first professional win in the Emirates. His presence highlights the tournament’s standing among the leading events played in the Middle East and validates its promotion to the Rolex Series.

The American had a phenomenally successful season in 2018. He won the US PGA Championship, defended his U.S. Open championship – the first player to do so since fellow Rolex Testimonee Curtis Strange won back-to-back titles in 1988 and 1989 – and was named PGA Player of the Year. Koepka, the Florida native who started his professional career on the European Challenge Tour, already has four wins on the European Tour and will be hoping to take his electrifying form into the new season.

Koepka said: “It’s been five years since I last played in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship but I’ve been wanting to return for a long time, so I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to test myself in such beautiful surroundings once again. I loved my experience on the European Tour when I was younger, and it’s always great to be back.”

Joining Koepka in Abu Dhabi will be several members of the Rolex family of Testimonees, including previous Rolex Series winners Thorbjørn Olesen of Denmark and Spaniards Rafa Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm, who won the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and the 2017 DP World Tour Championship.

Srixon Introduces the All-New Z-STAR Series: Built for Distance

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.) — SRIXON, a global leader in golf ball technology and innovation, announces the launch of the sixth generation Z-STAR Series golf ball. The Srixon Z-STAR XV and Z-STAR are available in Pure White and Tour Yellow and officially launch in North America on February 1, 2019.

“Distance is one of the major strengths of my game, and I trust the performance of the Z-STAR XV like nothing else on Tour,” said professional Cameron Champ, who currently leads the Tour in driving distance. “The exceptional ball speed and distance that I’m able to generate with the Z-STAR Series gives me the unique opportunity to compete at an elite level week-in-and-week-out.”

The sixth generation Z-STAR Series features the all-new FastLayer Core, a revolutionary way to make a golf ball core. It starts soft in the center and gradually becomes firmer around its edge. This greatly enhances ball speed for maximum distance performance, while maintaining exceptional feel at impact.

“The new Z-STAR Series golf balls are built on top of the heritage of one of the most successful, trusted Tour golf balls in the market,” said Jeff Brunski, Vice President of Research and Development. “The exceptional ball speed and distance of both Z-STAR offerings are driven by the new FastLayer Core technology, producing both outstanding ball speed and launch conditions tuned for the high swing-speed, better player.”

The new Z-STAR Series golf balls feature new Spin Skin technology with Slide-Ring Material (SeRM), a urethane compound that coats the cover of every Z-STAR Series golf ball. By taking unprecedented levels of shearing force without breaking its molecular bonds, Spin Skin with SeRM is able to dig deep into your wedge and iron grooves, dramatically increasing friction and maximizing spin for more control and more stopping power on every shot.

The all-new Z-STAR Series golf balls are the first and only in the world to use Slide-Ring Material, providing a competitive advantage that cannot be matched.

“Engineered for more spin and control, the Z-STAR Series features a Spin Skin coating enhanced with SeRM, an extremely flexible material,” Brunski said. “Never before has Srixon combined so many technologies in one golf ball, to produce more friction for more spin around the green.”

The 338 Speed Dimple Pattern on each Z-STAR Series golf ball improves overall aerodynamics for better flight performance, even in the toughest wind conditions, with drivers, woods and irons.

The sixth generation Z-STAR XV features a softer urethane cover and Spin Skin with SeRM, which significantly increases greenside spin for more short game control. It features a four-piece construction with a smaller inner core and larger outer core for more distance off the tee.

“The new Z-STAR XV is hotter off the driver,” said four-time Tour winner Keegan Bradley. “It’s definitely longer with my irons as well. So, it’s a ball that’s going to help you throughout the entire bag.”

Similarly, the new Z-STAR golf ball features Spin Skin with SeRM, which increases greenside spin and short game control, while maintaining that soft feel. In addition, the 2019 Z-STAR employs a three-piece construction and slightly increased compression with a harder mantle layer for more ball speed, reduced spin and more distance.

Key Technologies:
· New FastLayer Core: The FastLayer Core starts soft in the center and gradually becomes firm around its edge, giving high-speed players exceptional feel and enhanced ball speed for maximum distance.
· 4TH Generation Spin Skin with SeRM: A new coating with flexible molecular bonds digs deep into wedge and iron grooves, maximizing spin for more control and more stopping power.
· 338 Speed Dimple Pattern: The 338 Speed Dimple Pattern offers less drag and more lift to boost overall distance, while flying straight even in the toughest wind conditions.

The Srixon Z-STAR Series golf balls officially launch in North America on February 1, 2019, at a MAP of $39.99 per dozen.

Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company to Build Upon 2018 Success with New Products in 2019

Unique Factory-Direct Business Model Provides Serious Golfers with Tour-Quality, High-Performance Golf Clubs at a Fraction of Competitive Brand Pricing

(Fort Worth, Texas) –  On the heels of multi-million dollar sales growth in 2018, the resurgent Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company is optimistic about 2019 and plans to introduce a number of new products and programs to fuel growth.

“2018 was a tremendous year for the Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company. We’ve proven to ourselves that our Factory-Direct business model works extraordinarily well and is clearly the way more and more premium golf equipment will be purchased in the future. We’ve also proven to serious golfers that the brand is firmly back and remains committed to Mr. Hogan’s mission of creating the best-performing golf equipment in the world,” said Scott White, CEO, Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company. “In 2019, we will be aggressive and continue to invest in our company and business model. Our new product line-up, specifically, is exceptional and we believe golfers will increasingly migrate away from traditional sales channels to purchase Ben Hogan golf equipment online.”

White adds, “We offer best-in-class golf clubs to golfers at hundreds of dollars less than they would pay for competitive brand products in the mark-up driven retail sector. And, because we aren’t beholden to retail sales cycles and shelf re-sets, we bring products to market only when they are worthy of Ben Hogan’s signature. We’ll roll out some new irons and will likely enter some new product categories in the very near future.  I’d urge serious golfers to wait and see what is coming from us before investing in new products from other leading brands. I promise, they won’t be disappointed!”

Recognized for producing the highest-quality, best-performing and best-feeling forged irons and wedges in the game, the Company’s 2019 new product introductions will complement the existing line-up that includes the Fort Worth Black and White irons, PTX irons, Edge irons, Equalizer wedges, VKTR hybrids and Ft. Worth HI utility clubs.

All products are designed specifically for serious golfers of varying skill levels and are hand-crafted using Ben Hogan Golf’s proprietary club building process. The company’s team of craftsmen, some of whom worked with Mr. Hogan directly for many years, build each individual club and set of irons one at a time, to exacting, individual specifications. Mass production techniques are not utilized at Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company.

Moreover, recognizing that most golfers want to personally experience equipment before they purchase, Ben Hogan Golf offers a simple, risk-free demo program, as well as a Trade-UP program where golfers can offset the cost of their purchase by selling used equipment back to the Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company. The company reports that over 70% of people who try Ben Hogan golf equipment via the Demo Program end up buying equipment.

The company also offers a number of other consumer-centric programs including free domestic shipping on orders over $150.00, flat-rate international shipping, a low or no-cost financing program, and no-charge customization of all clubs.

Wilson Golf Introduces Superlight D7 Driver and Wood Line

The new D7 line with RE-AKT Technology delivers faster club head speed for longer distances.

(CHICAGO) – Today, Wilson Golf officially launched the new D7 driver along with the line of D7 woods and hybrids for the 2019 season. Highlighted by its superlight design, the D7 driver, woods and hybrids provides golfers with greater ball speeds for longer distances, and ultimate playability when attacking the green.

With a club head weight of just 192 grams, the Wilson Staff D7 driver features RE-AKT Technology plus a combination of superlight design and reactive face technology to deliver faster club head speeds and ball speeds for longer distances off the tee.

Engineered with the [K]omposite Crown Design, the D7 crown features a layer of Dupont Kevlar® between carbon fiber to neutralize vibration and produce a sharp, crisp sound and ultimate feel.

“The process of creating the D7 driver started with designing the head shape and then stripping out nearly 25 grams of excessive weight,” said Jon Pergande, Global Innovation Manager at Wilson Golf.  “This weight was strategically returned to the head with the goal of improving the sound of the driver and optimizing ball flight with Dynamic Launch Control.”

Dynamic Launch Control strategically positions internal weights in each head to aid different swing speeds. The 9.0o degree for players with a fast swing speed with weighting forward in the head for lower launch and spin; the 10.5o for those with a moderate-to-fast swing speed with weighting in the middle of the head for a higher launch and spin, and the 13.0o is perfect for a slow-to-moderate swing speed with weighting further back and towards the heel for the highest launch and spin rate with a draw bias.

The D7 driver is available with the new UST-Mamiya Helium Series shaft that’s played on Tour. Lightweight with extreme stability, the shafts options are available in A-flex (45 grams), R-flex (46 grams) and S-flex (57 grams). The new Wilson Staff MicroLite Lamkin grip maintains a traditional feel in a super lightweight construction.

Fairway Woods and Hybrid
Wilson Staff D7 fairway woods and hybrid offer a dramatic change to previous distance versions, starting with a head shape inspired by input from Wilson Tour players.

The new lightweight crown construction features thin-cast pockets which reduces five grams of weight and promotes the superlight design.

“By removing excessive weight and changing the structure of the clubs, we see that the D7 woods and hybrids make a significant gain in performance,” said Jon. “As with the D7 driver, the D7 fairways and hybrid can be swung faster with the same effort to give golfers the desired distance.”

A Carpenter Custom 455 Stainless Steel face insert provides a thin, hot face, increasing both feel and distance.

The D7 fairway wood is available in three loft options – 15˚ (3-wood); 18˚ (5-wood); and 21˚ (7-wood) - with the same UST-Mamiya Helium Series shaft and Wilson Staff MicroLite Lamkin grip as used on the driver. Left hand models are available in 15° and 18° loft options.

The D7 hybrid is available in four loft options (19˚, 22˚, 25˚ and 28˚) with the UST-Mamiya Recoil shaft in A-, R- and S- flexes at 65 grams. The grip is the Wilson Staff classic Lamkin Crossline pattern grip. Left handed versions are available in 19°, 22˚ and 25° loft options.

The D7 driver, woods and hybrid will be available for purchase on and at golf retailers on Jan. 21.

MLA Golf Partners with P2 Putter Grips in 2019

(Switzerland) - MLA Golf, a global player in high-performance golf clubs and equipment, announced that they're partnered with P2 Grips. All of MLA Golf's Tour Series putters will feature P2's patented putter grips on them for 2019.

"On their own, each of these products is very effective at helping golfers make more putts," said Valery Turco of MLA Golf. "So combining the patented visual alignment technology of our putters with the grip technology that P2 Grips offers was a no brainer." "It's going to help a lot of golfers, at all skill levels, improve their accuracy and their distance control on the greens."

About P2 Putter Grips - #ScienceMeetsFeel
The unique patented design of the P2 Putter Grip allows the shaft to be positioned along the underside of the grip encouraging the golfer to position their hands and wrists higher at address. This off-center shaft design is proven through independent biomechanical testing to improve putting performance. Hand and wrist movement is restricted, producing better control of the putter face, with more putts being struck from the sweet spot.

P2 Grips tested by Quintic Consultancy revealed the following performance benefits:
* Putts were struck closer to sweet spot.
* Putter face was prevented from twisting open or closed at impact.
* Hook or slice spin was reduced
* Putts started closer to the intended starting line.

The P2 grip through its shape and soft tacky texture promotes even grip pressure, while eliminating tension in the wrist and forearms. This helps the arms to swing freely, further enhancing a more stable, consistent and reliable pendulum putting stroke.

About Patented Multiple Line-detector Activation
What truly sets the MLA Putter apart from the competition is its patented MLA (Multiple Line-detector Activation) Alignment Technology that will revolutionize your putting.

This is how it works ...
We all have internal guides to compare and analyze sensory information that control pace and direction of putts. The MLA putters are designed to take advantage of these guides. MLA Putters worked with Dr. Lennart Högman, Ph.D. Dr. Högman has studied the perceptual process for more than 20 years and has performed studies that have revised the science between the human's perceptions and the human being's motor skills. Dr. Högman says: "An alignment system that acts upon multiple line detectors is a key to obtain veridical motion perception and a perfect in-line stroke surface."

The brain consists of 100,000 line detectors that are divided into a number of groups that help us decide what is straight. A simple line, for example, activates a group of detectors. When several groups of detectors are activated, these help the brain to make correct judgments. However, the more line detectors that are stimulated will not automatically lead to a better line judgment. On the contrary, this can create a "competition" between the line detectors that will lead to different degrees of (so called) optical illusions.

MLA is developed to activate the maximum number of coordinated detectors for optimal aiming judgment.

Breakthrough Golf Technology Offers Stability Putter Shaft on Revolution Golf

(Dallas, TX) - Breakthrough Golf Technology, a new company from the founder of Adams Golf and inventor of the Tight Lies Fairway Woods, announces an exclusive offer for its Stability Putter Shaft with Revolution Golf. Barney Adams has improved the old school steel shaft and created an all-new putter shaft called Stability. Driver and iron shafts are packed with technology these days but the putter shafts had been largely ignored and it finally gets a much-needed overhaul.

In fact, for 50 years, the putter shaft has not changed; it's a simple steel pipe. Over the years, head designs for putters have evolved and gotten dramatically heavier. This has resulted in shafts that are not stable or strong enough to keep these heavier, advanced putter heads from oscillating. The Stability shaft delivers the face squarer at impact for improved accuracy and solid feel and has a lower launch for a predictable roll, resulting in better distance control.

"Barney Adams is known for bringing innovative, game-improving products to golf, which aligns with Revolution Golf's goal to help golfers improve and play their best," said Justin Tupper, founder of Revolution Golf. "We are excited to partner with BGT to launch the Stability Putter Shaft and for our members to be among the first to learn about and benefit from new golf technologies."

Barney Adams, CEO and Founder of BGT stated, "We are happy to collborate with Revolution Golf, after seeing the growing popularity of the Stability Shaft on tour this past season and excited at the unique opportunity to work with Revolution Golf's well proven approach to lowering handicaps for golfers of all skill levels."

USGA Honors Michael T. Huck as 2019 Green Section Award Recipient

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) – Celebrating golf’s leaders who innovate and demonstrate leadership in sustainability and water resource management, the USGA has named Michael T. Huck, a turfgrass and irrigation specialist from Orange County, Calif., as the recipient of its 2019 Green Section Award.

Huck will be honored at the USGA’s Annual Meeting and Service Awards Dinner at the J.W. Marriott in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Currently a principal at Irrigation and Turfgrass Services in Southern California, Huck is widely recognized as a visionary in water conservation and water use efficiency. He has authored nearly 50 articles and continues to share news and insights on water regulations, supply issues and the future of golf course irrigation to a worldwide audience. He also regularly works with regulators, golf facilities and allied associations on developing best practices and policies that conserve water while ensuring sustainability.

“Mike’s continued dedication to elevating the topic of water conservation in golf and advocating for education and dialogue has benefited courses across North America and the world,” said Dr. Kimberly Erusha, USGA Green Section managing director. “His innovative approach, matched with his ability to communicate very complex science in a relatable way, has provided game-changing leadership that helps golf courses and communities.”

Huck has more than 40 years of experience in the golf industry, including 12 years as a golf course superintendent and six years as a regional agronomist for the USGA. His particular expertise lies in irrigation water quality assessment, saline and recycled water management, irrigation system auditing and sprinkler uniformity.

Huck has also served on several golf water task forces in Los Angeles, San Diego and the Coachella Valley in the wake of water restrictions imposed on golf courses during periods of extreme drought. He collaborated with the Southern California Golf Association to study the feasibility of creating on-site non-potable water sources that could be used on large landscape environments. He also taught an advanced water quality seminar through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America for 12 years and coauthored a 2009 reference text on this subject.

“I have known Mike for over 30 years, during which time he has always had a genuine concern for the proper use of our precious water resources,” said Pamela Pavela, water use efficiency specialist for the Western Municipal Water District in Riverside, Calif. “However, it is Mike’s strong character and his commitment to valuing business relationships that make him a consummate professional so deserving of this award.”

The USGA Green Section Award has been presented annually since 1961. Through the work of its Green Section, which was established in 1920, the USGA is one of the world’s foremost authorities on turfgrass management, as well as research, development and promotion of environmentally friendly practices and a more sustainable game.

The Service Awards Dinner honors the people whose dedication and outstanding accomplishments have made an important contribution to the USGA and its mission to serve the game. In addition to the Green Section Award, the Joe Dey Award, the Ike Grainger Award and the Herbert Warren Wind Book Award will be presented at the evening event.

(Austin, Tex.) – The hottest destinations for golf travel span the globe and one of the most widely traveled executives in the travel industry, Bill Hogan, Senior Vice President of Sales for Garmany Golf, doesn’t need a crystal ball to predict them. Hogan has played golf in 60 countries and is one of the foremost authorities in the world when it comes to golf and travel.

The 2019 Garmany Golf Hot List includes:
- Vietnam
- Northwest Ireland
- Wisconsin
- France
- South Africa
- New Zealand
- Dubai and Abu Dhabi
- Melbourne, Australia and Tasmania
- South Korea

For more information on each destination, access the web site at  Garmany Golf will be exhibiting at the PGA Show in Orlando, January 23-25, in booth #3479.

To plan a customized, once-in-a-lifetime golf experience, email

Vietnam takes your breath away with its beauty, history, culture, and a growing list of great golf courses. There are few places anywhere, especially in Asia, where all those assets sit so closely together. Courses like Hoiana Shores and Greg Norman’s newly opened Kam Ranh are special and there are a number of other great ones. Visitors have to balance their time among jungle resorts, beach resorts, and the cities, north and south, with good golf in all three environs. Plus, the amazing food and value: Vietnam is about a third the price of many international destinations.

Northwest Ireland
Not as well-known as the other golf-rich regions of the Emerald Isle, the Northwest offers at least a week’s worth of fantastic courses separated by magnificent vistas and all wrapped in the unique experience that is Ireland. There’s little in the world to match the rumpled topography of Ballyliffin, with two courses that you’ll think have been there forever but are surprisingly recent. Plus, County Sligo, Carne, Enniscrone – unforgettable courses like those run all along the Wild Atlantic Way from Shannon to the country’s northern tip. Time seems to move a little slower and quality of life is the most important measure. Locals will warmly invite you to join them for a pint – and many still speak Gaelic, adding to the authenticity of the experience.

The land of cheeseheads and bratwurst has emerged as a golf destination, which is not surprising when considering its pedigree. On a Garmany Golf Experience, golfers will play courses that have hosted the Ryder Cup, U.S. Open Championship, PGA Championship and U.S. Women’s Open. Erin Hills, just 45 minutes from the Milwaukee Airport, is the starting point. From there, take in Sand Valley, with a magnificent Coore-Crenshaw layout, only to be surpassed by its sister property and one of the most fun courses to emerge in years, David McLay Kidd’s Mammoth Dunes. And no Wisconsin pilgrimage is complete without a stop in Kohler, with luxury accommodations at the American Club, as well as Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run, courses sure to be on any “must play” list, as is a frosty mug (or two) of Spotted Cow beer.

From catacombs to battlegrounds to vineyards, France is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world and has the golf experiences to complement the setting. The 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National is  just the beginning. With Paris as the epicenter of international culture (museums, cuisine, shopping) and luxury lodging (the company highly recommends Barrière Hotels), it’s hard to fathom that also there are six world-caliber golf courses within driving distance – and they are only the start. From Provence and its stunning Terre Blanche Resort, to Burgundy, Normandy, and Champagne, France offers an abundance of riches for the golf traveler.

South Africa
There is nothing like the combination of great golf and unforgettable safari parks, and nowhere better to enjoy them than South Africa, concentrating around Cape Town and along the East Cape’s beautiful Garden Route. Courses like the Links at Fancourt, Leopard Creek, St. Francis Links, and Pearl Valley Golf Estate (one of Jack Nicklaus’ best) show off the highlights of this country’s proud golf traditions. When it comes time to see the animals, smaller private parks like Shamwari and Royal Malewane are luxurious and intimate. South Africa is also breathtakingly beautiful, from mountains to valleys and expansive seascapes, while famous for its farm-to-table cuisine and local wines. Every visit is a feast for all the senses.

New Zealand
Golf has a long history in New Zealand, but it’s become a bucket list destination for travelers in just the past few decades, thanks to a handful of unbelievably luxurious yet comfortable golf lodges. No doubt you’ve seen photographs of heart-stopping Kauri Cliffs near the top of the North Island, plus Tom Doak’s brilliant cliff-top Cape Kidnappers: Both are must-play courses adjacent to outstanding accommodations that also feature the best native cuisine and world-famous local wines. Other extraordinary lodges—like Matakauri and Huka Lodge, both with great golf nearby—are further reason to make this once-in-a-lifetime journey. And if there’s a more beautiful country on earth, we want to know about it.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Nothing in these neighboring Middle Eastern emirates is modest or understated, but the sheer audacity is a big reason for going. This is the land of superlatives, with the world’s biggest building, longest hotel, and often the most expensive … everything. They brag about having “six-star” hotels and they’re right, with priceless art and artifacts, price-is-no-object shopping, and such over-the-top amenities as a vending machine that dispenses gold ingots. It has to be seen to believed, which is also true of the golf courses – oases carved out of the desert and immaculately maintained, thanks to limitless budgets (and desalination plants). Many of the courses are really quite good, including the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, where the European Tour plays every year, and Yaz Links, which looks and plays like a Scottish links (think Kingsbarns without the water) and just might be the best golf experience between the UK and Australia.

Australia (Melbourne) and Tasmania
Quite simply, there may not be a better concentration of great golf courses anywhere in the world than on Australia’s Sand Belt around Melbourne. Their names are legendary: Royal Melbourne (2019 Presidents Cup venue), Kingston Heath, Metropolitan, Victoria, Yarra Yarra, Huntingdale, and on and on. The land is ideal for golf and legendary designers like Alister MacKenzie have left a healthy handful of monuments to architectural greatness. If you’re already making the trip, don’t miss one of the world’s newest and most exciting golf attractions, Tasmania, a short flight away to Barnbougle Dunes, Lost Farm, and Cape Wickham. This is golf at its best, purest, and surprisingly accessible, further enriched by food, wine, and the friendly, easy-going Aussies.

South Korea
When people talk about golf in Asia, they usually refer to China and Japan, both of which offer interesting, exciting experiences. But to truly understand and enjoy lush and lavish, the place to go is Korea. It will blow you away with the most elaborate and no-cost-spared clubhouses, attentive service, and have-to-be-seen-to-be-believed courses built on mountains and islands and furnished with everything from outdoor art collections to working teahouses and bottomless wine cellars. The courses are incredible: From Nine Bridges on Jeju Island (as well as its sister course outside of Seoul), to Whistling Rock in the mountainous resort region of Chuncheon, and South Cape along the country’s southern coast, no expense was spared. Korea offers much more than golf, notably beautiful scenery, exotic dining, and history both ancient and modern. PGA Professional Championship returns to Florida in 2021 at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) – PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, will host the 2021 PGA Professional Championship, the world’s largest all-professional event, on its Wanamaker (primary) and Ryder Courses.

The 54th PGA Professional Championship will be conducted in the Spring of 2021, with all four rounds to be broadcast live on Golf Channel. The Championship is presented by Club Car and OMEGA.

This will be the seventh playing of the Championship in the state of Florida, first since 1993.

“The PGA of America is excited to bring the 2021 PGA Professional Championship to PGA Golf Club and Florida's Treasure Coast,” said PGA President Suzy Whaley. “The Wanamaker and Ryder Courses have every element required to host a memorable national championship and challenge an exceptionally talented field of 312 PGA Professionals. This announcement reflects the PGA of America's long-term commitment to PGA Golf Club and the Port St. Lucie community.”

The PGA Professional Championship field is comprised of players who advance from the 41 PGA Section Championships, along with Past Champions. The low 20 scorers at PGA Golf Club will earn a berth in the 2021 PGA Championship at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

Beginning in 2019, the PGA Professional Championship will be played in April as a result of new competition dates for the PGA Championship. The 2019 PGA Professional Championship will be conducted April 28-May 1, at Belfair in Bluffton, South Carolina.

PGA Golf Club - the PGA of America’s premier 54-hole facility - hosts multiple PGA Member championships annually, such as the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship, PGA Jones Cup, National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, Senior PGA Professional Championship (biennially, in even years) and the PGA's Tournament Series and Winter Championships.

“What's significant about this and for everyone affiliated with PGA Golf Club is that the facility will complete the circuit of hosting every PGA of America Member Championship,” said Jimmy Terry, Senior Director of PGA Golf Properties. “We're excited to welcome Golf Channel and the eyes of the golfing nation to Port St. Lucie, which will provide a picturesque backdrop to crown a worthy PGA Professional Champion. As far as I am concerned, 2021 cannot get here quickly enough.”

PGA Golf Club is home to three highly-decorated courses designed by renowned architects Tom Fazio and Pete Dye.

The Wanamaker Course ranked 18th in Golfweek’s “2018 Best: State-by-State Courses You Can Play” rankings, while the Dye Course rose to 22nd – making PGA Golf Club one of only a handful of properties with two layouts on the respected list.

The Ryder Course reopened in 2017 to rave reviews, following a renovation project that enhanced the greens and surrounding areas.

Tour Edge Signs Scott McCarron to Logo Staff Deal for 2019

Two-time winner in 2018 will expand club usage with Exotics

(RELEASE) - Tour Edge announced today that Scott McCarron has officially signed a deal to play and endorse Tour Edge Exotics and to play their metalwoods on the PGA Tour Champions in 2019. McCarron will feature a Tour Edge Exotics logo on his left sleeve.

McCarron served as an Exotics CBX hybrid staff player in 2018. He played Tour Edge Exotics CBX hybrids all year en route to two PGA Tour Champions victories and a 2nd place finish in the Charles Schwab Cup.

This year, McCarron will be wearing a Tour Edge Exotics logo for the first time and will also expand his club usage to other categories with Tour Edge Exotics clubs.

“I love the Exotics hybrid and what it has done for my game, it is a great fit and a low-spinning,  hot faced hybrid that has me hitting more hybrids off the tee and in general because I have complete faith in the club,” said McCarron. “I am also proud to add their logo to my gear as I love what Tour Edge is doing as a company.  They are a long-established U.S. owned and operated company that builds their premium clubs in the United States. I am looking forward to testing their Exotics drivers and fairway woods to find a home in my bag as well.”

McCarron finished 2nd in the final Charles Schwab Cup points and money standings in 2018 while playing both 17 and 19 degree Exotics CBX hybrids with a Fujikura Atmos shaft. The runner-up finish for the season was McCarron’s third-straight Top 5 Charles Schwab Cup finish (3rd/2017, 4th /2016).

"Scott McCarron is a world-class player and top contender on the PGA Tour Champions year in and year out,” said Tour Edge President David Glod. “His choice to represent Tour Edge and play our Exotics clubs truly validates how far we have come as a golf club manufacturer over the past 32 years. He is a perfect fit to represent our brand and the perfect ambassador for the PGA Tour Champions.”

McCarron won twice on the 2018 PGA Tour Champions with Tour Edge in his bag. He won the Shaw Charity Classic Sept. 2nd and the American Family Insurance Championship June 24th for his 8th win on the PGA Tour Champions over the last three seasons.

“The PGA Tour Champions is a tour that has made amazing strides the past few years,” said Glod. “It is more competitive than ever and is now one of the most exciting tours in golf to watch with ultra-competitive players like Scott leading the way. I like to tell people who still call it ‘the Senior Tour’ to follow Scotty for a couple of holes and see if the word ‘senior’ properly describes his tenacity and the power he unleashes on the golf course. He truly is a special talent.”

McCarron will be appearing for a meet-and-greet at the Tour Edge PGA Show booth from 11 AM to 12:30 PM on Thursday January 24th at Booth 843. Before that, he will make his season debut January 17th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.

McCarron will also take part in Tour Edge’s sponsorship of PGA Tour Champions Learning Center show on the Golf Channel. The PGA Tour Learning Center is a popular Golf Channel television show that features professional tips and instruction featuring the legends of golf from the PGA Tour Champions. PGA Tour Champions Learning Center, Presented by Tour Edge, is scheduled to air 43 episodes in 2019, beginning January 22, with Tour Edge prominently featured within each episode. The series also will incorporate Tour Edge Exotics Staff Professionals like McCarron, providing tips geared toward the amateur golfer.

In all, over 50 players have put over 300 Exotics clubs into play since Exotics was launched to the tour in the last year. Eight out of the Top 25 players (32%) in the Charles Schwab Cup final standings and 16 out of the Top 50 players put Exotics into play in 2018.

On top of the six victories and 10 runner-up finishes procured by players using Exotics on the 2018 PGA Tour Champions, players using Tour Edge clubs also earned 34 Top 5 finishes and 60 Top 10 finishes in the 27 events played on the PGA Tour Champions in 2018.

The Tour Edge Exotics CBX hybrid ranked as the #1 most played hybrid model at the 2018 Senior PGA Championship and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship with their Exotics CBX hybrid accounting for 16% of the hybrids in play, according to the Darrell Survey.

Circling Raven Retains Dan Shepherd PR to Promote Acclaimed Northern Idaho Golf Club

Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel Amenity Enters 15th Anniversary Season with Specials and Enhancements

(Worley, Idaho) – Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel today announces that it has retained Dan Shepherd Public Relations, LLC (“DSPR”) to create and manage a strategic brand invigoration and marketing communications program for Circling Raven Golf Club, the resort’s sublime, 18-hole championship course designed by Gene Bates.

“The Coeur d’Alene Tribe is proud of how well received Circling Raven has been by guests and golfers, and we’re excited to celebrate our upcoming 15th anniversary season with them through several special events, promotions, and enhancements,” said Laura Stensgar, CDA Casino Resort Hotel, Director of Public Relations and Cultural Tourism. “With this milestone, it was an easy decision to retain DSPR to lead our publicity and media relations program because of its strategic expertise working with golf courses, destinations, casino resorts, and Native American business enterprises. Dan was a pivotal partner in establishing a successful program here from 2004-2013; partnering with him now will reinvigorate the Circling Raven brand at a crucial point in its evolution.”

“Staying at Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel and playing Circling Raven is one of the most rewarding golf experiences in the world,” said Shepherd, who has worked with golf clubs, resorts, and destinations from Kauai to the Alberta Canadian Rockies, Branson to Puerto Rico. “It has everything players value – immaculate conditions, ingenious design, hundreds of acres of gorgeous, undeveloped land surrounding the course, exemplary customer service, and an amenity-rich casino resort hotel for after-golf leisure activities.”

Owned and operated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, Circling Raven is in the scenic Idaho panhandle approximately 55 minutes from Spokane International Airport (GEG). The 7,189-yard 18-hole course sprawls magnificently through 620 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and Palouse grasses. Its gleaming white sand bunkers are large and strategically placed, and its variety of holes is tremendous. They range from the short, risk-reward par-4 10th hole that tempts golfers to carry the wetlands and reach the green, to the sinewy, dogleg 11th, which is framed by Palouse grasses and uniquely different in terrain and design from the preceding hole.

Many who play the course, which includes a nationally honored retail shop and the excellent Twisted Earth restaurant with bar, claim it as an immediate member of their all-time best golf experiences. Other Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort amenities and activities include the full-service Spa Ssakwa’q’n; a variety of hotel rooms and suites; bars, restaurants, lounges, and eateries; cultural immersion options, and more. The casino is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation with a planned Spring 2019 unveiling.

Circling Raven Golf Club has garnered numerous best-in-kind honors since opening, including being rated as a Top 100 Resort Course, Best in State, and a Top U.S. Casino Course. Its golf shop has won awards for its excellence and its variety of products, displays, and performance. An array of 15th anniversary season specials and events will be announced in early 2109.

World-Class Golf, By George

Picturesquely snuggled in the Blue Ridge Mountains upon 400 acres of rolling scenery, Ballyhack Golf Club represents the vision of its designer, Lester George

(ROANOKE, VIRGINIA) – Golf course architect Lester George will never forget the first time he saw the piece of land where Ballyhack Golf Club now resides. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside Roanoke, Va., the site was highlighted by rolling, dramatic topography.

A seasoned, hands-on designer who reads topography with an artistic eye, George said of the land’s nearly 400 acres, “half was orchard grass and fescue blowing in the wind.”

“I thought it was the prettiest piece of land in the entire Shenandoah Valley for a golf course,” he says. “It had that look, that Scottish Highlands type of look. It just intrigued me.”

A graduate of the University of Richmond and former army artillery officer who later attended Harvard Design School, George opened his own firm in 1991. He developed a niche in renovating and restoring classic golf courses designed by some of the most revered golden age architects such as MacDonald, Raynor, Tillinghast, Ross and Flynn, as well as designing practice facilities.

In 2001, however, the Virginia-based architect gained international acclaim for his original design work at Kinloch Golf Club outside Richmond. By then, George said he was ready for new endeavors.

His quest to develop the property outside Roanoke went on for years. Eventually, George was able to piece together a group of investors, purchase the land, and conduct zoning and other due diligence. To satisfy his partners, George laid out more than two-dozen different routings for the site. “I was the developer, the project manager, the architect … the crazy man,” he says.

The original ownership group broke ground on the project in 2007 and Ballyhack debuted in 2009 — just as the bottom was falling out of the U.S. economy.

“Perfect timing,” George says with a chuckle. “When they started selling real estate lots in the two neighborhoods that border the property, they sold 11 in the first month. They didn’t sell another for a year. It was dismal.”

Sales issues aside, Ballyhack itself turned out even better than its visionary imagined. The course serves up incredible vistas at every turn, with 50- to 70-foot elevation changes, fairways as wide as 150 yards, and old-style, gouged-out, roughed-out bunkers.

George pointed out that whereas Kinloch has 40 acres of bent grass fairways, Ballyhack has 56. “The scale is monster,” he says.

“It’s like when your worst pregnancy turns out to be your best kid,” says George, a longtime member of the esteemed American Society of Golf Course Architects. “Ballyhack is like no other place; the experience is unlike anything else.”

George describes Ballyhack’s service and overnight accommodations as, “very good, comfortable, but not ostentatious.”

“The relaxed atmosphere of the staff — you can carry your cell phone and wear jeans in the clubhouse — it’s my wife’s favorite project in three decades and she doesn’t even play golf,” he says. “The approach at Ballyhack is attracting a market right now of people who are saying, ‘I don’t need another private club, I need a place where I can go and let my hair down a little.’ That’s what I am encouraged about.”

In 2016, Dormie Network purchased Ballyhack. The Nebraska-based ownership group is in the process of assembling a nationwide stable of high-end properties, combining the experience of destination golf with the exclusive hospitality of private membership. Each club offers an intimate, pure golf experience in a relaxing and accommodating environment ideal for business or leisure.

The new ownership team quickly constructed four new cottages at Ballyhack, as well as a state-of-the-art maintenance facility. “Those were things we couldn’t pull off with the membership at 200,” George said.

George is convinced that Dormie Network’s business model — multiple, national destinations with overnight accommodations, where members can enjoy a buddy trip, a family getaway or a corporate outing — is, “really the only model right now that makes sense.”

“I think Dormie Network has figured out that there is some intuitive play for the guy trip or the family trip or the client trip,” George says. “They get it. Putting more than one in a network is really smart. That’s the only business model I trust right now in terms of new golf.”

“I think it’s going to be a really successful venture,” he says. “They need the right golf courses and Ballyhack is the right golf course.”
