Zero Friction Success Continues on Pro Tours

PGA Tour Champions Players Finish Near Top of Leaderboard at Charles Schwab Cup Using Zero Friction Golf Tee and Glove

(OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL) – The recent success on professional golf tours for Zero Friction, maker of high-quality, technologically advanced products for golfers worldwide, continued this past weekend at the PGA Tour Champions’ season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Arizona.

Zero Friction had two top-10 finishes by players using the company’s ZFT Maxx 3 Prong Tees, and a 13th-place finish from a player using the tees and the Zero Friction glove.

The ZFT Maxx Tees are extra-large to make it easier and faster to set the ball on. The short Hybrid tees set up at the perfect height for irons, hybrids, and driving irons. ZFT Maxx system tees offer the same great design, distance and performance as the original 3 and 4-prong tees, with 66% reduced contact area for less resistance and more distance.

“We are thrilled that the world’s best players are enjoying success using our products,” said John Iacono, founder and President of Zero Friction. “Our multi-prong performance tees are what the company was founded on, and it is exciting to see tour players benefit from the performance of our tees in competition again.”

Two years ago Zero Friction launched a true breakthrough product, the GPS Distance Pro glove, which comes with a lightweight GPS device on the flap, providing accurate distances for over 35,000 golf courses worldwide.

This year the company introduced two new products that received rave reviews at the PGA Merchandise Show. The Cabretta Elite golf glove is an upgrade to the original Cabretta glove released three years ago. The Cabretta leather provides a solid grip in wet or humid weather. The reinforced Lycra throughout fingers, back of hand and palm allow for maximum strength, durability, and enhanced breathability.

Also new are the  Spectra matte finish distance golf balls. Matte finish golf balls are the hottest product in golf right now, as they are easier to see in the air and on the ground, so they speed up play and prevent lost balls. The 80 compression, 2 piece golf balls can add up to 10 additional yards and straighter shots due to less sidespin.

Spectra matte finish distance golf balls are available in 4 ball sleeves, dozens, and blister packs with tees. They are also available as Supertubes, which include Zero Friction performance tees, a one-size compression fit glove, and Spectra golf balls. The Spectra golf balls are vailable in men’s, ladies’, and junior versions.

A Family Affair of Athletic Success Defines PGA Jr. League’s Lucas Jinglov

Defending PGA Jr. League Champion Team Georgia Member’s family includes: His Aunt, Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Strug…His Mom and Kerri’s Sister, Lisa Jinglov, a standout former gymnast at UCLA…and Father Niclas, who played golf at Northern Illinois

by Michael R. Abramowitz
On a weekend when it was announced that Steph Curry and Alex Morgan had joined Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Michelle Wie and Lexi Thompson as Official PGA Jr. League Ambassadors, they weren’t the only sports stars keeping an eagle eye on Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

As the Skills Competition was in full swing Friday, the 12 Regional Champion Teams assembled were joined by PGA Tour stars Colt Knost, Chez Reavie and Phil Mickelson’s former caddie and TV announcer Jim “Bones” Mackay. Throw in a concert by Kelley James, a regular performer at PGA Tour events, and the 2018 PGA Jr. League Championship presented by National Car Rental has achieved rock-star status.

Despite all the celebrity attention, kids have that innate ability to become stars of the show.

For Defending Champion Team Georgia, veteran Lucas Jinglov, 14, of Marietta, Georgia, comes from a family that knows what it’s like to compete at an extremely high level.

Last year, he was a member of the PGA Jr. League Champion Team Georgia. Now, he returns to Grayhawk Golf Club in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona, among a team of nine boys and one girl Captained by PGA Professional Patrick McCrary and Coached by Greg Powers, as they look to defend their title, Nov. 17-19. A team representing the state of Georgia has played in all six prior national finals of the Championship.

Lucas’ aunt is 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Strug, of the “Magnificent Seven” fame, whose legendary vault on one foot catapulted the United States to glory at the games in Atlanta. His mother, Lisa, competed as a gymnast as well at UCLA, one of the powerhouse programs in collegiate gymnastics. And his father, Niclas, was a college golfer for Northern Illinois.

Last year, Strug proudly stood near the final hole as her nephew, Lucas, and his teammates captured the Championship. With the 7th PGA Jr. League Championship presented by National Car Rental now upon us this weekend and into Monday, Nov. 19, the event keeps getting bigger and bigger.

“It is an amazing event that starts with [more than] 50,000 golfers across the nation, and culminates in this awesome event at Grayhawk Golf Club,” said Strug. “It is good for the game of golf, as it brings new boys and girls into the game.”

“It’s cool – playing in the PGA Jr. League Championship is almost like a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience,” added Lucas.

Even Lucas’ two-year old golden retriever is named “Rory” after the PGA Jr. League Ambassador and two-time PGA Champion Rory McIlroy.

“The kids really enjoy it,” adds his mom, Lisa Jinglov, who is Strug’s sister. “It is a very memorable experience for a lot of players at such a young age.”

The age range of this year’s field is 9-14. Jinglov will age out after this year. Yet, the stars appear aligned for a bright future in golf.

“It was great to see Lucas and Team Georgia win last year,” Strug added. “I know how hard Lucas works on his game and how passionate he is about golf. So, it’s great to see it pay off.”

The 55-year-old Member of the World Golf Hall of Fame rallied from six shots behind on Sunday at Phoenix Country Club to claim the Champions Tour's season-ending event. His final round of 10-under-par 61 tied the course record and gave him a four-shot margin of victory.

TGA Premier Golf Creates Pathway for Future Golfers

(RELEASE) - TGA Premier Golf (Teach, Grow, Achieve) has become the leading introductory program in the industry over the last 15 years. The only youth sports franchise company dedicated to golf, TGA introduces the game to youth (ages 5-13) on school campuses nationwide through its after-school enrichment model.

The unique and successful model provides an innovative curriculum combining golf skill progression with STEAM academics. The program is being utilized anywhere on school campuses regardless of weather, including gymnasiums, hallways, cafeterias, fields and blacktops.

With over 70 percent of its students having never played the game before, and a majority of those students’ families being in the middle to upper-class and paying for the programs, TGA has created a sustainable model that is building a foundation for the future of the game. Through its TGA Sports Foundation, under-resourced schools and families are also benefiting from the TGA program. TGA is leaving no child behind in learning the game of golf.

Following the after-school enrichment programs students continue through the TGA Player Pathway model which transitions students to local golf courses for camps, parent-child events and leagues. The program has also become one of the largest feeder systems into national programs like PGA Junior League, Drive, Chip and Putt, Youth on Course, as well as LPGA*USGA Girls, who also make up 42 percent of the participants in TGA programs. This was all highlighted in a recent National Golf Foundation story titled “TGA's Introductory Programs Are Helping Create a Pathway for Youth Golf.”

To date, TGA has introduced the game to over 750,000 kids in 3,400 schools nationwide in 68 markets and it continues to grow. More than 40,000 kids registered for the programs this fall, more schools are signing up, and additional franchise territories are coming online every month. Kuchar Finds His Fit With Bridgestone TOUR B X Ball In 8th Career Victory

Fan Favorite Matt Kuchar Relies on Bridgestone TOUR B X Ball and Full Arsenal of Bridgestone Clubs in his first victory in 4 years at 2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic

(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf Tour star Matt Kuchar kicked off his new season with a ‘working vacation’ he’ll remember forever. Having recently put Bridgestone’s lower spinning TOUR B X ball and new JGR Driver into play over the last two tournaments, Kuchar proved the combination to be a winning one, taking the title at the 2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, by one shot. The win south of the border was Kuchar’s first since 2014 and the eighth of his career, vaulting him into 5th place in the early season FedEx Cup point standings.

Relying on Bridgestone Golf’s TOUR B X ball and a full bag of Bridgestone clubs, the fan favorite showcased tremendous accuracy off the tee and consistent precision on his approach shots enroute to victory. In fact, Kuchar tightened his dispersion off the tee with the JGR Driver and TOUR B X ball to rank among the top 10 in driving accuracy for the week.  In addition to straighter drives, Kuchar also gained an average of 7-yards off the tee over the last two tournaments in which he used this winning combination.  Beyond his enhanced tee shot performance, Kuchar also finished in the top 10 in greens-in-regulation and birdies for the week.  On the rare occasion when he didn’t hit a green in regulation, the TOUR B X provided all the greenside feel he needed, as Kuchar got up-and-down 80% of the time, finishing in the top 5 in the scrambling category as well.

In an unforgettable week that started with Kuchar’s wife pinch-hitting at caddie for close-friend Zach Johnson when his normal bagman fell ill during Thursday’s opening round, the “Smiling Assassin” carded 4 rounds in the 60s (64-64-65-69) on the El Camaleon course for a tournament record 22-under par total.

“It is so good to get back to the winner’s circle, this one certainly feels sweet,” said Kuchar. “And that Bridgestone ball is really something.  How many wins is that for the TOUR B family in the last few months? Thanks to Bridgestone for being in my corner.  I am excited to get back to the Tournament of Champions in a few weeks.”

The rundown of Bridgestone equipment used in Kuchar’s win in Mexico is as follows:
· TOUR B X golf ball
· TOUR B JGR 9.5-degree Driver
· TOUR B XD-H 18-degree 2-Hybrid
· J15 CB Irons (5-PW)
· J40 52-degree Wedge

“Kuch has been a tremendous ambassador for the Bridgestone brand, and the game as a whole, for a very long time,” said Dan Murphy, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. “He has had a few near misses over the last couple seasons, so it is really great to see him close this one out and hoist another trophy.  Matt is proof positive that ball-fitting is an evolutionary process.  For most of his career he’s played a higher-spinning Tour ball, and just recently, he decided to experiment with our lower spinning model.  Clearly, the reduced spin was just what the doctor ordered this week at Mayakoba.”

The TOUR B Series golf balls represent Bridgestone’s most technologically advanced models to date. During development, company engineers used data from nearly 350,000 in-person ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources, to identify needs of specific player types. They then drew on more than 800 golf ball patents to determine which proprietary technologies would most benefit each type of swing characteristics identified.

Chip Sullivan hired to oversee renaissance at Royal New Kent in New Kent, Va.

(NEW KENT, VA) — When new ownership purchased Royal New Kent in New Kent, Va. — one of the finest works of the late golf course architect Mike Strantz — they announced plans to revitalize the golf course to its original grandeur and bring in a highly regarded golf professional to lead the club’s renaissance.

Strantz’s work at Royal New Kent is currently being restored.

Now, Royal New Kent has hired Chip Sullivan — a popular PGA professional and one of the country’s most accomplished players — as the club’s General Manager and Director of Golf.

Sullivan, 54, arrives at Royal New Kent with more than 30 years of experience in the golf industry and an impressive list of accomplishments in the game. He has served at clubs throughout the U.S., including 20 years as a head golf professional in Roanoke, Va.

A former college standout at Ole Miss, Sullivan is a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. His accomplishments included winning the 1986 SEC individual title — beating among others in the field, 2001 PGA Championship winner David Toms. Sullivan earned All-SEC first team honors in 1986 and was a member of the 1984 SEC Champion Team.

Since turning professional in 1987, Sullivan has won more than 80 PGA-sanctioned events including the 2007 PGA Professional National Championship, which he won by four strokes.

In his 20 years in Virginia, Sullivan was a four-time Middle Atlantic Player of the Year, a four-time Maryland State Open champion and a five-time Virginia State Open runner up. He is a former member of the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and South African Tour.

Sullivan has played in more than 50 PGA Tour events including nine major championships. His best finish was a T-31 in the 86th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, Wis.

“Royal New Kent is considered one of the most challenging golf courses in the country,” said Barton Tuck, Chairman of Wingfield Golf, which is managing Royal New Kent. “We wanted to bring in an accomplished player to help our members and their guests get around the golf course at a pleasurable pace.

“We’re very excited to have Chip join our team. He has enjoyed an impressive career on and off the golf course. We plan on him retiring here at Royal New Kent.”

Located midway between Richmond and Williamsburg along the gateway to Coastal Virginia and the Outer Banks, Royal New Kent is a Virginia original with Irish seasoning. Strantz designed the golf course as a tribute to the fabled seaside links of the Emerald Isle, with an emphasis on the character and feel of two of his favorites — Ireland’s Royal County Down and Ballybunion.

“You have to learn to play the course the correct way,” Sullivan said. “When you do, it’s very challenging but also very rewarding.”

For many years, Sullivan played in the Crown Royal tournament at Royal New Kent, which was one of the most popular events to among professionals around the east side of the country who weren’t on the PGA Tour.

“It was a fantastic tournament with a great reputation,” Sullivan said.

The Royal New Kent bunkers have been completely restored. The green complexes have been converted from bent grass to champion Bermuda grass, while substantial upgrades are being made to the clubhouse. The irrigation system includes a new pump station and all 120 inlets will be rebuilt for better drainage. The new ownership even found several members of the original construction crew to assist with the renovation.

“What they’ve done so far is absolutely amazing,” Sullivan said. “I can’t wait for people who remember the old Royal New Kent and see what they think. They’re going to be shocked at how it is back to the way it used to be. There is going to be a big-time “wow” factor in what they’re doing to restore these bunkers. The Champion Bermuda greens are going to improve the playability and the golfers will be able to enjoy the greens that much more.”

Royal New Kent is expected to reopen in April 2019. “My prediction is that Royal New Kent will be the best-conditioned course in the state on opening day,” Sullivan said.

Royal New Kent headlines a trio of outstanding public access courses owned or managed by Wingfield Golf, all within a short drive of one another.

Wingfield owns nearby Viniterra Golf Club, a Rees Jones design that opened in late 2009 and quickly won the hearts of the area’s golfers and a fixture amongst Golfweek’s Top Courses to Play in Virginia. Built upon nearly 1,200 acres of rolling, rugged terrain, the masterful routing incorporates many of the diverse, natural features of the site including frequent and dramatic elevation changes, various wetland areas and portions of mature, deciduous forest. A new golf house is currently being constructed at Viniterra.

Meanwhile, Wingfield also manages The Golf Club at Brickshire, where two-time U.S. Open champion Curtis Strange — working with Ault, Clark and Associates — designed a course that emulates holes from some of Strange’s favorite courses: Augusta National, Pinehurst No. 2, Riviera and The Old Course at St. Andrews.

“It’s refreshing to see a course like Royal New Kent that was shut down to have somebody buy it and reopen it,” Sullivan said. “This could be a good sign for greater things to come in the golf industry moving forward.”

O’Connor is one of the two youngest members of the elite group – Greg Ducharme of New York also is 27 – and one of only six instructors among the 114 listed who are in their 20s.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized as one of the best young teachers in America,” said O’Connor, who in January was elevated to the PGA Director of Performance & Instruction, overseeing Desert Mountain’s state-of-the-art Jim Flick Golf Performance Center. “As coaches and teachers, we stand on the shoulders of giants who came before us in the golf industry, striving to be our very best.”

Desert Mountain Club, the only private community in the world with six Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses, will open a new, 18-hole par-54 course – named No. 7 at Desert Mountain – in early 2019 and celebrate the reopening of its original course, Renegade, following an extensive renovation.

The $1.6 million Golf Performance Center at Desert Mountain Club is equipped with the most advanced technology available in the industry and provides a comprehensive game enhancement program, from golf fitness to playing skills and mental game techniques.

“We are proud of Paxton and pleased to see him recognized by Golf Digest,” said Desert Mountain Club CEO Damon DiOrio. “He has a unique skill to translate sophisticated concepts into simple, tangible coaching practices. He exemplifies our commitment to provide innovative, world-class instructional experiences for our membership.”

Prior to joining Desert Mountain Club, O’Connor was an instructor at the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Henderson, Nevada. While mentored by Harmon, O’Connor was able to assist during sessions with clients that included PGA Tour players Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker, Rickie Fowler and others.

A native of Cherokee, Iowa, O'Connor was introduced to golf at age 6 by his mother and grandfather. After several years as a competitive junior golfer, as well as a high school standout, O’Connor graduated from the PGA Professional Golf Management Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2015 and also become a member of the PGA of America in 2015. O’Connor has completed numerous special training courses, including the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), PGA of America, Trackman, SamPutt Lab and numerous others.

The Jim Flick Golf Performance Center – dedicated to one of the game’s greatest instructors, Jim Flick, who was Desert Mountain’s PGA Director of Instruction from 1987-2005 – is a 6,500-square-foot facility that features a wealth of resources: Trackman, which is the first and only dual radar technology tracking ball behavior and club delivery; Swing Catalyst pressure plate and video software; a Science and Motion PuttLab; AMM 3-D sensor known as the “MRI of your golf swing;” and a Quintic Ball Monitor. In addition, the PGA- and Titleist-certified staff utilizes the technology to match members with equipment perfectly suited for their games.

This is Golf Digest’s sixth biennial list of the top golf instructors younger than age 40, with the inaugural class named in 2008. Nominations are accepted from respected sources, which include tour players, previously recognized teachers, and instructors on the Golf Digest state and national rankings.

Final selections are based on individual accomplishments, training and continued education, as well as how each instructor handles the day-to-day challenges of helping golfers improve.

Milstein Donates $1 Million to PGA REACH to Honor Legendary PGA Member and Champion Jack Nicklaus

(INDIAN WELLS, Calif.) – Philanthropist and golf entrepreneur Howard Milstein has been named a Trustee for PGA REACH, the 501(c)(3) foundation of the PGA of America.

Milstein, Chairman of 8AM Golf, has pledged $1 million to PGA REACH in honor of legendary PGA Member and five-time PGA Champion Jack Nicklaus. The gift is designed to inspire others to contribute to PGA REACH, as well as convey his belief in golf and the mission of PGA REACH.

The donation was announced at the 102nd PGA Annual Meeting in Indian Wells, California.

“Jack first introduced me to PGA REACH several years ago, and I have spent the past year working with PGA REACH and the other Trustees, learning about their important programs to help grow the game, impact youth, seed diversity and inclusion programs, and also help our Veterans become part of our community,” said Mr. Milstein who, as Chairman of 8AM Golf, is the publisher of GOLF Magazine and Executive Chairman of the Nicklaus Companies. “Through this commitment, I cannot think of a better way to honor my partner and friend. There is no one who better embodies the values and traditions of golf than Jack Nicklaus.”

The mission of PGA REACH is to positively impact the lives of youth, military, and diverse populations, by enabling access to PGA Professionals, PGA Sections and the game of golf.

“I deeply believe in the game of golf and its positive impact on participants of all ages,” Mr. Milstein added. “Through this donation and my involvement as a PGA REACH Trustee, I hope to give back to a community, and a game, that has given me so much.”

PGA Jr. League, the flagship youth program of PGA REACH, is a game-changing opportunity to bring family and friends together around fun team golf experiences. PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The PGA WORKS Fellowship aspires to be the most valuable entry-level employment opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to gain experience in all facets of the golf industry.

“We’re delighted that Howard Milstein has joined PGA REACH as our newest Trustee,” said PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh. “I have met with Howard and discussed how the PGA, Nicklaus and 8AM Golf can work together to create a real impact on the game and the people we serve. His donation is a beacon of light for others across the golf industry to emulate, and the impact it will have is enormous. PGA REACH is grateful for Howard’s generosity and commitment to the future of the game.”
