Arkansas’ Maria Fassi, Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho and UCLA’s Lilia Vu Finalists for the ANNIKA Award;
Texas’ Doug Ghim, Ole Miss’ Braden Thornberry and Oregon’s Norman Xiong Finalists for The Fred Haskins Award
(ORLANDO, Fla.) – Golf Channel will announce several end-of-year college golf awards on Morning Drive (7-9 a.m. ET) and Golf Central (6-7 p.m. ET) on Wednesday, June 6.
The WGCA (Women’s Golf Coaches Association) and GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) will announce their respective college coaches of the year on Morning Drive on Wednesday, with the winning coaches scheduled to be in-studio to accept their awards.
Wednesday on Golf Central (6-7 p.m.), Golf Channel will reveal the winners of the ANNIKA Award presented by 3M and the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, recognizing the most outstanding female and male Division I collegiate golfers for the 2017-18 season, as voted on by their peers, coaches and golf media.
The finalists for the ANNIKA Award presented by 3M are:
- Maria Fassi, Arkansas (Junior): Winner of six collegiate events during the 2017-18 season; WGCA First-Team All-American and SEC Women’s Golf Player of the year.
- Jennifer Kupcho, Wake Forest (Junior): No. 3 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Rankings; 2018 NCAA Women’s Golf Individual National Champion; Winner of four collegiate events during the 2017-18 season; lowest scoring average in school history during 2017-18 season with a 70.60 average.
- Lilia Vu, UCLA (Junior): No. 1 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Rankings; Winner of four events during the 2017-18 season; lowest scoring average in school history during the 2017-18 season with a 70.37 average; WGCA First Team All-American.
Hall-of-Famer Annika Sorenstam will be in-studio on Wednesday to announce the 2018 ANNIKA Award presented by 3M winner. The winner will receive an exemption to compete in the 2018 Evian Championship in September, the final major of the year on the LPGA Tour.
The finalists for the Haskins Award presented by Stifel are:
- Doug Ghim, Texas (Senior): No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings; Medalist at the NCAA Raleigh Regional Championship and the Big 12 Conference Championship; 2018 Masters Low Amateur.
- Braden Thornberry, Ole Miss (Junior): No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings; 2017 Haskins Award winner; Winner of four collegiate events during the 2017-18 season.
- Norman Xiong, Oregon (Sophomore): No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings; Winner of six collegiate events during the 2017-18 season, most in school history for a single season.
The winner of the Haskins Award presented by Stifel will receive an exemption to compete in the 2018 Greenbrier Classic on the PGA TOUR in July.
Voting for the ANNIKA and Fred Haskins Awards concluded at the end of the 2018 NCAA Women’s and Men’s Golf Championships, respectively. Golf Channel and Golfweek are media partners for the ANNIKA and Fred Haskins Awards.
The Fred Haskins Commission, which for the past 47 years has overseen the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, also oversees the ANNIKA Award presented by 3M. Winners of the Fred Haskins Award have captured nearly 30 majors and more than 300 professional victories.
