Renowned Architect Andrew Green to Renovate Cardinal Course of The Country Club of North Carolina

(PINEHURST, N.C.)
– Architect Andrew Green, acclaimed for his masterful restorations, has been selected by the The Country Club of North Carolina (CCNC) to renovate its Cardinal Course.

Green’s work on the Cardinal Course is scheduled to begin the fall of 2028 with reopening expected in the fall of 2029.

Andrew Green“With the plan approved, our attention now turns to the details and execution of the Cardinal project,” Green said. “We are working closely with the Club and project team to refine the design, establish the construction sequence, and coordinate the many pieces necessary to move the project forward successfully.

“There is still important design work ahead. As we move toward construction, we will continue to study each hole, test ideas, and refine details to make sure we are getting the most out of the property and the plan.

“It is exciting to move into this next phase. We have a clear direction, and now our responsibility is to work through the details and execute the project in a way that delivers the best possible golf course for the membership.”

McDonald & Sons Golf Course Builders has been selected as the construction firm to work with Green on the project. The two have collaborated on numerous projects in recent years, and McDonald and Sons is also where Green got his start in the business. He spent 12 years with the firm before branching out on his own.

The Cardinal Course originated as a nine-hole layout designed by Willard Byrd in 1970, making CCNC a 27-hole facility at the time. Nine additional holes were added in 1981, completing the course under the direction of Robert Trent Jones Sr. The most recent course renovation was completed by Arthur Hills in 2001.

Some of Green’s most applauded recent work includes renovating an enviable group of courses that have hosted many Major championships such as Congressional Country Club’s Blue Course (2022), Oak Hill Country Club’s East Course (2021), Inverness Club (2020), Scioto Country Club (2022), Wannamoisett Country Club (2022), and East Lake Golf Club, home of the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship (2023). His work at Interlachen Country Club (Minn.) and Chevy Chase (Md.) Club earned Golf Digest’s 2024 and 2025 Renovation of the Year awards, respectively.

Two of Green’s original course designs – Firefly in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Kawonu Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. are scheduled to open in fall of 2026 and spring of 2027, respectively.

“Andrew Green’s work is undoubtedly successful and eye-opening,” said club president Charlie Rivers. “His vision for the future of the Cardinal Course at CCNC is equally innovative. The membership is enthusiastic about watching this project come to life. A newly invigorated Cardinal Course adds to the luster of the golf at CCNC as it offers the opportunities to host high-level competitions. We are extremely honored to work with Andrew and can’t wait to see the new Cardinal Course.”

Hunting Creek Country Club Unveils the Overlook

New pool complex builds upon years of investment and continuous improvement at the Prospect, Kentucky club

(Prospect, Kentucky) — Hunting Creek Country Club has opened The Overlook, a sophisticated new poolside facility designed to bring an elevated level of comfort, hospitality and style to one of the Club’s most popular gathering places.

The Overlook features a dramatic vaulted roofline, exposed structural beams, and stone accents, creating a natural connection to the Club’s existing architecture. The open-air design offers a distinctive personality to the pool complex, while a consistent palette of neutrals ties the property together. An increased use of blues reflects the surrounding water, bringing a fresh, resort-inspired quality to the space.

This addition is part of a multi-year commitment to reinvest in the Club’s facilities, creating spaces that feel connected, intentional, and distinctly part of Hunting Creek. The transformation gained significant momentum with the Club’s extensive clubhouse renovation and expansion, which introduced refreshed dining, social, fitness, and recreational spaces, establishing a modern architectural direction for the property. The momentum continued with the addition of the Pavilion in 2023, followed by four dedicated pickleball courts in 2024, and now The Overlook in 2026.

Rather than approaching each project individually, Hunting Creek has focused on creating a cohesive campus. The Overlook was designed to complement the architecture established throughout the renovated clubhouse and Pavilion, carrying forward many of the same materials, finishes, and design elements. The result is an environment that feels upscale, modern, and fresh while remaining unmistakably Hunting Creek. Each investment is made with the goal of enhancing how members use the Club.

“With The Overlook, we have transformed a deteriorating, outdated pool building into a magnificent facility that will be a crown jewel of our club,” said General Manager Zeke Larson. “It will allow us to better serve our members, enhance their enjoyment of the club, and help introduce Hunting Creek to future members. Most importantly, The Overlook represents the culture we have worked hard to establish: one that is never satisfied with standing still and is always looking for ways to be better and do better.”
