Hideki Matsuyama Wins WGC-Bridgestone Invitational with Srixon Z-Star Golf Ball

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Trusting the tour-validated performance of his Srixon and Cleveland Golf equipment, Hideki Matsuyama dominated the world’s best again with a five-shot victory in the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The fifth career PGA TOUR victory for Matsuyama was sealed with a brilliant final-round 61, tying the historic venue’s course-record.

Entering the final-round two shots back of the leaders, Matsuyama, the 25-year-old native of Japan, birdied the sixth-hole to take the outright lead and never looked back. In fact, with the victory clearly within his grasps, he stood on the 16th tee wanting more—a course record.

“I knew standing on the 16th tee that the course-record was 61 and if I birdied the last three, I would tie it”, Matsuyama said. “So that’s what I wanted to do.”

Besides the $1,660,000 first-place check, Matsuyama’s third victory of the season vaults him back into the top spot on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup points list. This win also marks the second time this season Matsuyama has won impressively in a World Golf Championships event. Early this season, Matsuyama won the WGC-HSBC by a record-breaking seven shots.

Matsuyama’s Z-STAR XV golf ball has helped him become one of the most dominant ball strikers on the PGA TOUR. At the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Matsuyama was T1 in Greens in Regulation (54/72), first in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (14.93) and Around the Greens (5.82), and first in birdies (23).
