Famed Banks Course Will Challenge Top Senior Professionals and Amateurs
(Monroe Township, NJ) — Forsgate Country Club’s historic Banks Course is the site of the 21st Callaway MGA Senior Open Championship that will be contested August 28-29. The 36 holes stroke play tournament is open to Met area PGA professionals, assistant professionals and amateurs with a handicap of 4.5 or less who are 50 and older. Designed in 1931 by architect Charles “Steam Shovel” Banks, the 6,904-yard, par-71 course is renowned for its steep and deeply recessed bunkers and enormous, undulating greens.
“The club is honored to be hosting the area’s top senior professionals and accomplished amateur players,” said Forsgate’s Director of Golf, Carolyn McKenzie Andrews. “The Banks Course presents many challenges, especially around the greens. We are looking forward to welcoming the competitors who have qualified for this prestigious championship.”
Former PGA TOUR pro, Jim McGovern, won the 2016 title in a playoff. McGovern was the TOUR’S 1993 Shell Houston Open champion. The field will be cut after 18 holes on August 28, and the low 40 players and ties, along with any competitor within five shots of the lead, will vie for the 21st Callaway MGA Senior Open Championship trophy and winner’s $5,000 check.
