Product Review: Hydro Flask

Golfers will play in any weather - hot, cold, rain ... even snow if it’s not sticking to the ground. Golf shops are stocked with moisture-wicking shirts, heat-retaining sweaters, rain suits and umbrellas. Those cover the external golfer, but what about the inside? Hydro Flask takes care of that with its wide assortment of stylish, insulated bottles.

Launched in Bend, Oregon, Hydro Flask does more than a typical canteen. Each double-wall, vacuum-insulated flask is made from high-quality 18/8 stainless steel and is lightweight, reusable and BPA-free. These beauties keep cold liquids cold for 24 hours and hot liquids hot for 12 hours.

Hydro Flask offers the world’s first vacuum-insulated 64 oz beer growler, the flagship product in a line that includes a 12-oz. standard-mouth flask, food flasks, an 18-oz. coffee flask, a 21-oz. standard-mouth flask, popular with golfers and outdoor enthusiasts, and a 40-oz. wide-mouth flask that’s perfect for the yoga studio.

American Golfer conducted a very un-scientific test and, sure enough, cold stayed cold and hot stayed hot well beyond what was expected. Ice cubes were still present 8 hours after filling the 21-oz. bottle with ice water, and hot water in the 18-oz. bottle was still very warm after the same amount of time. I’ll leave it to the skeptics to challenge the outer boundaries of Hydro Flask’s claims. For us, 8 hours is more than enough time to get to the course, warm up, play 18 holes and socialize in the clubhouse after. If your pre-round beverage is waiting for you in the car and still at a desirable temperature following that ... great!

Bottom line: Hydro Flask exceeded my expectations. Whether in the car, golf cart or backpack, you’d be wise to make Hydro Flask your beverage vessel of choice.
