(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Srixon and Cleveland Golf congratulate staffer Shane Lowry for his victory at the 2105 WGC–Bridgestone Invitational held at Firestone Country Club, in Akron, Ohio. The 28-year-old Irishman, who narrowly qualified for the event at No. 48 in the world, began Sunday’s final round alone in third place, two shots off the lead. Lowry’s bogey-free four under 66 performance in Sunday’s final round was enough to propel him to victory with a final score of 11-under 269, two shots ahead of the nearest competitor. Lowry, who hit just 10 greens in the final round, was able to get up-and-down each of the eight times he missed the green, including five times on the back nine.
“I can’t believe it. I’ve played well most of the year, but these last four days are special,” said Lowry. “I don’t think there was any point out there that I thought I couldn’t win. I thought I was in the driving seat most of the day. I played the course quite well.”
The victory was the third of Lowry’s career, and it was his first win since he won at the 2012 Portugal Masters. With the win, Lowry also became the first non-PGA Tour member to win a World Golf Championship event since 2011. The victory, which earned Lowry $1.57 million, moved his ranking up to No. 19 in the world and secured him a full PGA Tour membership through 2018.
Lowry played with Srixon’s new 4th generation Z STAR® XV ball with SpinSkin Technology, a Srixon ZTX fairway wood (18°), Srixon Z 545 irons (#4 - #5), Srixon Z 745 irons (#6 - #9), and Cleveland Golf 588 RTX 2.0 wedges (48°, 52°, 56°, 58°). Lowry wears a Srixon hat, a Srixon glove, and carries a Srixon bag.
