Wolfdancer 2.0

Golf at popular Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa near Austin takes on a new look during Spring Break 2012, with over-sized golf cups and other family-friendly entertainment options

(AUSTIN/BASTROP, TEXAS) — Buoyed by the “Golf 2.0” buzz permeating throughout the recent PGA Industry Show in Orlando, Eric Claxton returned to Texas focused on creating ways the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa and its popular Wolfdancer Golf Club could help grow the game.

Described by the PGA of America as the most important initiative undertaken in its 96-year existence, Golf 2.0 is intended to make the game user-friendlier and halt slumping participation by keeping golf relevant and desirable among consumers with less money and more options. And of course, junior golf and family participation in the game are a big part of the equation.

With that in mind, Claxton — Hyatt’s Senior Director of Golf at Wolfdancer Golf Club — focused on Spring Break 2012 as an ideal opportunity to add another family-friendly activity at the acclaimed Texas property, which attracts more than 1,500 daily guests during this time period.

The result: On March 11, Wolfdancer Golf Club will have a different look, one that includes over-sized cups and family tees on each hole of its Arthur Hills design. Junior golfers 17-years-old and under will play for free after 12 noon with an accompanying paid adult. A $100 family pass will be available after 4 PM including golf, rental clubs and golf balls for a family of four.

“We are going to see how this first event goes, and then evaluate from there,” said Claxton. “I hope we will be able to do this once a month during the summer season.”

The 405-acre hotel and resort has stood as an appealing family destination since opening in 2006. Hyatt Lost Pines’ unique setting along the banks of the Lower Colorado River provides families a variety of additional activities, including horseback riding and hiking, river rafting, full-service Spa Django (and Wild Hare Youth Spa), live music and a water park featuring the manmade 1,000-foot Crooked River pool with two-story water slide.
