Watson blasts 43 long drives for 'Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million'

(PHOENIX) – Bubba Watson and his pink PING G20 driver got heated up in Arizona. His 43 drives of 300 yards or longer at the Waste Management Phoenix Open outdistanced his previous week’s total at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he hit 26. To date, he has raised $30,700 from equipment sponsor PING as part of his effort to raise $1 million for charities this PGA Tour season.

In addition to a $10,000 upfront contribution, PING is supporting “Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million” by donating $300 for every drive he hits 300 yards or more (up to 300 drives) in 2012. PING’s fundraising event is called, “Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by PING.” All funds raised will go to Phoenix-area charities, chosen by PING with Bubba’s support.

On the season, more than 63% of Watson’s drives have traveled 300-plus yards, the highest percentage on tour of anyone who has played at least 12 rounds. He next competes at the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club, Feb. 16-19.
