Architect Andy Staples Honored by American Society of Golf Course Architects
(Hobbs, New Mexico) — Rockwind Community Links, which recently was rated as one of the Best New Courses of 2015 by Golf Digest, has received another accolade for its exceptional design. Rockwind’s architect Andy Staples has been recognized as one of the nine recipients of the American Society of Golf Course Architects’ 2015 Design Excellence awards.
According to the ASCGA, the U.S. projects that were selected “show the positive impact a well-designed facility continues to have for golfers and an entire community.” Staples, an ASGCA member, was cited for his creative “Community Links” design philosophy and Rockwind’s integration of public recreational attractions on the site such as walking trails and picnic areas. In just a few months since its opening, the 27-hole municipal facility has been heralded as one of the top new public access courses in the U.S.
“We congratulate Andy on this significant honor,” said J.J. Murphy, City of Hobbs’ City Manager. “Rockwind is proud to be the trailblazer in introducing the innovative ‘Community Links’ concept to the country. Our goal was to provide a quality golf experience here at reasonable rates for our residents and visitors. This is a special place for everyone.”
"I'm honored to be recognized for our work at Rockwind and I am excited for the City of Hobbs,” stated Staples. “They should be proud of this award and understand how their leadership is making an impact within our industry."
According to PGA TOUR star Fred Couples, who attended Rockwind’s grand opening celebrations, “Rockwind Community Links is a solid blueprint for the future success of growing the game of golf in a community. The vision and leadership of the team delivering this jewel was amazing.”
