Air Capital Classic 8th event exemption awarded to SwingThought Tour in 2015, to be awarded at May 25-30 All-American Golf Championship in Fayetteville, N.C.
(Myrtle Beach, S.C.) – Over the past five seasons, the SwingThought Tour has secured more Web.com Tour and PGA TOUR event exemptions than any other tour in developmental golf. Today, that gap got even wider as the SwingThought Tour announced they have been awarded an event exemption into the 2015 Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna.
The Air Capital Classic will be held June 22-28 at Crestview Country Club in Wichita, Kansas with a $600,000 purse and $108,000 going to the winner. This marks the 5th year the Air Capital Classic has partnered with the SwingThought Tour (formerly the NGA/Hooters Tour) to award the #3 developmental tour in the U.S.A. an event exemption.
The SwingThought Tour was awarded an exemption into the event from 2010 to 2013. This year’s exemption will be awarded at the SwingThought Tour’s All-American Golf Championship being held at Gates Four Golf & CC in Fayetteville, N.C. May 25-30. The SwingThought Tour does not have any official affiliation with the PGA TOUR or Web.com Tour.
“The No. 1 goal of the SwingThought Tour has always been and always will be to help professional golfers achieve their dreams of playing at golf’s highest levels,” said Robin L. Waters, SwingThought Tour president. “Golf is a game of opportunities. By securing an exemption into the Air Capital Classic, our eighth major event exemption secured so far this year, we continue to do everything in our power to help them achieve those dreams. We cannot thank the Air Capital Classic enough for providing this opportunity.”
The Air Capital Classic is one of four original Web.com Tour events that are still on the schedule. The Classic will embark on its 26th year at Crestview Country Club on Thursday, June 25 through Sunday, June 28. Wichita was on the Tour's first schedule in 1990 as one of 30 stops on what was then the Ben Hogan Tour.
SwingThought Tour alum Scott Parel won the 2013 Air Capital Classic joining fellow alums Casey Wittenberg, Scott Piercy, Jeff Klauk, Tyler Williamson, David Toms and Tom Lehman as past champions.
So far, in 2015, the SwingThought Tour has gained Web.com Tour event exemptions into the United Leasing Championship, the Knoxville News Sentinel Open, four (4) into the BMW Charity Pro-Am Championship, and, now, the Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna. Since the start of the 2010 season, the SwingThought Tour has now secured Thirty-eight (38) Major event exemptions including three into PGA TOUR events in 2012 and 2013; the Reno-Tahoe Open and Sanderson Farms Championship. The SwingThought Tour is currently in the process of securing even more event exemptions for the 2015 season and, in the next few weeks, hope to have even more announcements to come.
