World’s Largest Golf Outing to Support Fisher House Foundation and Arnie's Army

The 7th Annual Outing Encourages Americans to Tee Up in Support of our Nation’s Veterans, Service Members and the Communities They Serve

(ROCKVILLE, MD) – On May 1, golfers from around the country will hit the links to golf for good as part of the World’s Largest Golf Outing. Not par for the course, this fundraiser aims to be the single largest golf event held on one day that makes a significant impact in the lives of those who need it most – our nation’s veterans and communities around the county. Proceeds from the World’s Largest Golf Outing will benefit Fisher House Foundation and Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.

This support comes at critical time, when 200,000 men and women are returning home from serving overseas each year, according to the Department of Defense (DOD), and almost 6 million veterans are using services from VA Health Care during a given year. The Fisher House program provides “a home away from home" for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes provide temporary free lodging so families can be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis.

“Our mission at Fisher House Foundation is to not only ease the burden for service members and veterans, but also for their families who have continuously stood beside them,” said Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation. “On any given night, up to 950 families can find a refuge and loving home at one of our 71 Fisher Houses.  The funds received from the World’s Largest Golf Outing will help us continue blessing new communities and serving military, veterans and their families for decades to come.”

Currently, there are more than 150 golf courses from coast to coast participating in the World’s Largest Golf Outing. Golfers of all ages and skill level are invited to register or join a team to get involved. For those who can’t play, there are three easy ways to show support: donate to a participating golf course, support a local team or visit the website to make a direct donation.

“We created the World’s Largest Golf Outing to serve as a reminder to the country that the freedoms we have are given to us by our brave military,” said Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of Billy Casper Golf.  “By participating in this event, you can give back just by doing something you love – playing golf.”

Participants in the World’s Largest Golf Outing will compete in four-person teams for the highest fundraising total day of and lowest team score. This year’s grand prizes included a trip for four to Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Florida. For more information, visit www.worldslargestgolfouting.com.

About Fisher House
Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.  These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, and in Europe, close to the medical center or hospital it serves. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths.  Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room.  Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee.  Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $360+ million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge.  The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans. www.fisherhouse.org
