Troon Leads Partnership To Acquire NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa

(Scottsdale, Ariz.) – Troon, the leader in golf course management, development, and marketing, led a partnership to acquire NorthRiver Yacht Club, a private club located on the banks of Lake Tuscaloosa in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Honours Golf, a division of Troon, has managed NorthRiver since 2012. NorthRiver Yacht Club will now serve as a training and education center for college students as Troon/Honours Golf will work closely with The University of Alabama’s Restaurant, Hotel, and Meetings Management Program to develop future golf and hospitality industry leaders.

“NorthRiver is a tremendous multi-amenity facility that will allow us to develop and train students from The University of Alabama’s hospitality program in a variety of disciplines,” said Dana Garmany, chairman and CEO, Troon. “Members and guests of NorthRiver will continue to experience the same incredible service, playing conditions and amenities that they have all along.”

"The Hospitality Management program at The University of Alabama welcomes the opportunity to partner with Troon, Dana Garmany (a University of Alabama hospitality program graduate) and NorthRiver Yacht Club,” said Dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences Dr. Milla Boschung. “Being nationally recognized, the hospitality program will work closely with Troon and NorthRiver to place students for internships in club management operations and provide professional support to continue to make NorthRiver a premiere golf destination and launching pad for many future golf and hospitality careers."

NorthRiver Yacht Club’s 18-hole, par 71 golf course was originally designed by Gary Player in 1978 and re-designed by Bob Cupp in 1999.  In 2015, Cupp oversaw the complete re-design and renovation of NorthRiver.  The club maintains the area’s best practice facility, two practice greens, a "wee links" mini-course, as well as a first-class short game area and a state-of-the-art teaching center.

“We continue to see tremendous global growth in the club and hospitality industry,” said Bob Barrett, chief executive officer, Honours Golf. “With its location just down the road from The University of Alabama, NorthRiver presents an excellent training ground to grow well-qualified individuals to work at facilities Troon manages around the world.”

The NorthRiver Tennis Center boasts 11 tennis courts, including four hydro clay, four traditional har-tru, two hard and one red clay court for a variety of play. The club’s thriving tennis program offers programming to members of all levels of interest and skill.

In addition to incredible golf and tennis venues and programs, NorthRiver Yacht Club members also enjoy a variety of club amenities, including:
- A state-of-the-art Fitness Center with a massage therapist, an indoor/outdoor heated pool, and a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool with full cabana service
- A 76-slip marina on Lake Tuscaloosa
- Lakeside dining and special event area at “The Captain’s Cabin”
- NorthRiver’s main clubhouse offers members a choice of fine dining overlooking the 18th hole of the golf course or a more casual dining experience in The Grille at NorthRiver
- A fully-stocked golf shop, plus men’s and women’s locker rooms

The two-story Yacht Club building is one of the most sought after wedding venues in the Southeast
