Product Review: Tin Cup

You watch your playing partner hook his drive into the trees and then you follow suit. While looking for the wayward tee shots, you find one, but not the other. Unfortunately, you’re playing the same ball, same number. Who’s in play and who’s lost? Had you both placed a distinguishing mark on the ball, there would be no issue.

The rules of golf state you must be able to identify your ball ... why not do it in style? Many place a dot or two near the number. That’s quick and easy, but lacks panache.

Enter Tin Cup.

Introduced in 2009, this stainless steel marking device quickly gained traction and rave reviews across the industry. Made in the USA, the shell fits neatly over a golf ball and offers myriad stencil options.

From patriotism (American flag) to passion (cards), animals (dog, gator, bear, etc.) to attitude (smiley face) or affiliation (college), Tin Cup offers a dizzying array of choices. There’s also a charitable angle ... Purchase a (pink) ribbon stencil and a $5 donation will be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

If that’s not enough, the company will create a customized marker with initials or name - up to six characters - logo, or both.

The standard Tin Cup markers range from $19.95 to $21.95 and come with a bag. The company recommends using an ultra-fine permanent-ink pen (think Sharpie), which they also sell, and offers personalized engraving (up to 15 letters) on the marker. The customized markers are priced below and may have restrictions, such as licensing:
Pre-existing custom design - $49
Initials: $99
Submitted logo: $125

This season, mark your ball with pizzazz ... Mark your ball with Tin Cup. This is the opportunity to add some flare to your game while complying with the the rules of golf.
