Jack Whitaker Lends His Golden Voice to The Palms Golf Club
The Palms Golf Club is featured on a new YouTube video narrated by legendary golf broadcaster Jack Whitaker.
J.D. Ebersberger, director of golf at the prestigious single-member private golf club in La Quinta, Calif., said Whitaker, a long-time sportscaster on CBS and ABC, was selected to narrate the video because of his iconic voice and reputation as America's most famous golf broadcaster.
"Jack told us it was nice to know there's still a place like the Palms," said Ebersberger, who was recently inducted into the Southern California PGA Hall of Fame. "We're proud to have Jack's voice represent our membership that includes both professionals and amateurs who want to grow old together playing the game they love."
Whitaker, who lives in La Quinta, is best known for his essays at major sporting events. He worked for CBS for more than two decades. He moved to ABC in 1982. He won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Personality in 1979 and was named to the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame in 1997. Then in 2001, he was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.
The five-minute video describes the history and special aspects of The Palms, home to more than 50 professionals including John Jacobs, Scott McCarron, Hollis Stacy, John Schroeder, Frank Beard, Freddy Couples and Arnold Palmer. The club also has more than 100 amateur members with single-digit handicaps. According to Golfweek, the Palms' average handicap index for 350 men and 70 women members is 7.2, the lowest combined handicap index among private golf clubs in the nation.
