Presidio Golf & Concordia Club’s Major Renovations Usher in Post-merger Era

(San Francisco, CA) – Presidio Golf & Concordia Club is pleased to announce the commencement of major renovations following the historic merger of two of the area’s most venerable clubs—the Presidio Golf Club and the Concordia-Argonaut Club. The $8.5 million dollar renovation will expand on the historic clubs’ exclusive attractions and social atmosphere and will establish modern amenities on its storied grounds adjacent to the Presidio of San Francisco in the Golden Gate National Recreational Area.

“It’s a social club with a rich golfing tradition,” says Co-President Patricia Rosenberg. “These exciting new improvements will foster a welcoming environment for members and their families, and our renovations will provide facilities and events to preserve our standing as one of California’s premier clubs.”

The renovation will bring a new fitness facility, complete with a spinning studio, state-of-the-art workout equipment and modern spa-like locker rooms that offer luxuries such as sports massages and yoga alongside a sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi. The club’s common areas will be completely redecorated and refurnished all while maintaining the building’s architectural integrity and renowned design. These changes, along with updates to the meeting and event areas, will offer refreshed, modern spaces amidst the traditional atmosphere of the rest of the club.

“It’s vital that we respect and preserve the rich history of both clubs while we work diligently to create a refreshing atmosphere for dining, social gatherings, and luxury while remaining true to our roots as a golfing institution,” says Co-President Scott Thomason. The Presidio Golf Club was founded in 1895 as the San Francisco Golf Club after the US Army gave a group of civilians permission to build a nine-hole golf course on the grounds. It was one of the earliest courses on the West Coast, and its original Tudor-style clubhouse—built in 1898—still stands today.

The Concordia-Argonaut Club was founded—as the Concordia Club—by Levi Strauss and a group of his San Francisco friends in 1864. One of the premier private clubs in the United States, it was one of the first clubs for Jewish members in San Francisco. Both clubs overwhelmingly agreed to merge effective 2016 as Presidio Golf & Concordia Club.

The club continues to enjoy and honor the traditions of memberships for both clubs, and it offers both golf and social memberships. Located in the Presidio, one of the most majestic locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and the city itself, the Presidio Golf & Concordia Club offers unlimited golf on the 18-hole course amidst grounds and facilities that are steeped in history. Nearing completion of its state-of-the-art amenities, it remains at the forefront of club choices for San Francisco’s social and business communities.
