“Congratulations to Bob on this tremendous, and most well-deserved honor,” said Tim Schantz, president and CEO, Troon. “Bob is somebody I and the rest of team at Troon deeply respect and admire, he is a visionary and an industry leader in developing and promoting golf across the Southeast.”
Barrett, a native of Augusta, Ga., began his golf career as an assistant golf professional at Augusta National Golf Club. From 1977 to 1991, he was manager and director of golf at Shoal Creek near Birmingham, Ala. The award-winning club hosted two PGA Championships (1984 and 1990) during Barrett’s tenure as well as the U.S. Amateur. In 1986, Barrett was awarded the national PGA Merchandiser of the Year Award. In 1993, he served as vice president of Sun Belt Golf Corporation, which built Alabama’s renowned Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
In addition to Barrett, other 2020 Hall of Fame inductees included Travis Hudson, PGA; Jim Brotherton, Jr., PGA; Tommy Burns, PGA; and Dave Atnip, PGA. Each were honored for going above and beyond in their service to the Section and the game of golf throughout their careers, and for having impacting legacies.
