Designer Ian Velardi Introduces Flatiron Polo for New Spring Collection
(New York, NY) – Maide by Bonobos debuts their Spring ‘15 collection at the PGA Merchandise Show Orlando and introduces an innovative new polo to the brand. The collection designed under the helm of famed menswear designer and avid golfer, Ian Velardi, Maide by Bonobos Spring ’15 collection strikes the perfect balance of style and performance for the modern man.
That mindset brought on the development of the brand’s innovative Flatiron polo ($78-$88; available in stripes and solids). Redesigned, reconstructed, and reimagined, the polo embodies the structural design of the brand’s New York City Flatiron District paying homage to the game of golf and the club itself.
Modeled after the construction of running apparel, the Flatiron Polo is stitched together with flat-lock seams, reducing abrasion to the skin. Designed with a moisture-wicking performance pique fabric, Velardi incorporated stretch cotton jersey bi-swing back panels over the shoulder blades for an increased range of motion.
“We studied the human body going through a golf swing very closely to determine where the tension was through a natural motion,” Velardi stated. “From there we manipulated a polo to see what would works with that motion, not against it. We truly believe this is best performance polo out on the market.”
Maide also introduces its first accessory into the line this season. The Clubhouse Stretch belt ($90; available in Navy) provides a fashionable touch to any golfers attire. Made from a stretch webbing fabric and an antique nickel slide buckle, this belt adds a tailored menswear element with performance abilities.
Maide’s signature bottoms continue again this season. With a curved waistband, tailored thigh, and a shortened rise, Maide pants and shorts (10” inseam) provide a made-to-order look off-the-rack in athletic wear. All Maide bottoms include a gel waistband inset to keep shirts tucked in and feature understated detailing such as contrast embroidery of the brand’s trademark script “M”.
The Highland Pant ($108) and Highland Short ($88) are constructed with breathable performance stretch fabric available in 12 colors and patterns from basics (grey, black, khaki, navy, white, and stone) to bolds (green and belcampo blue), along with the introduction of signature menswear prints ($118) including blackwatch, navy windowpane, and grey mini-check.
Maide by Bonobos’ Heathland Pant ($128) and Heathland shorts ($88) are made of ninety-eight percent cotton, and two percent elastin stretch, are a fun take on the classic chino fabric and look. Both the pant and short have garment washed and comes in four colors: navy, slate, stone, faded red. The short is also available in a novelty navy with golfer “critter” print, adding a sense of humor and nod to the golden days of golf. Maide’s Spring ’15 collection introduces the seersucker Heathland Pant ($118) and short ($98), with a 2% spandex blend, cotton hand feel, and performance breathability. All pants are available in slim and standard fits.
Spring ’15 knits include five short-sleeve polos in a poly-cotton blend that wicks away moisture. Maide by Bonobos’ polos provide UV protection and are antimicrobial. Polos are available in three novelty striped ($78) options: a white with bold navy chest stripe, an alternating contrast yarn dye stripe in navy/white and navy/Nantucket red. All styles will be available in slim and standard fits.
Sweater offerings for Spring ‘15 include classic cuts and patterns playing up the collegiate look of the collection. Striped quarter zip sweaters ($98) in two color-ways (navy/antique white; heather grey/blue) and a cotton crew-neck sweater in a classic sartorial herringbone print ($88) are versatile pieces that work on and off the course rounding out the contemporary take on retro detailing prevalent throughout the collection. Both sweaters are designed with raglan sleeve providing more movement in the shoulders during play.
