Heron Point by Pete Dye No. 11 in South Carolina
(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) – Harbour Town Golf Links, Pete Dye’s seminal design at The Sea Pines Resort, is ranked No. 9 in the U.S. in GOLF Magazine’s 2014 edition of “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” while Heron Point by Pete Dye ranks No. 11 in golf-rich South Carolina.
For Harbour Town, the honor reflects a significant rise of three spots from No. 12 in 2012. The Sea Pines Resort was also recently honored by GOLF with a “Gold Medal” in the magazine 2014-15 edition of “Premier Resorts.”
Not resting on its laurels, the acclaimed Lowcountry destination has recently added to its array of golf amenities including its 23,000-square-foot, full-service Plantation Golf Club clubhouse and first-class golf learning center headed by Tim Cooke as the Director of Golf Instruction.
Slated for opening this coming spring is the new 19,000-square-foot Harbour Town Golf Links Clubhouse on the site of the existing structure. The facility will honor the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage with a gallery showcasing the rich tournament history and display of past champions.
“Given the prestige of GOLF Magazine, we’re thrilled to move up so dramatically in the latest rankings,” says Cary Corbitt, Director of Sports Division. “Both Harbour Town and Heron Point are Pete Dye classics and give us a spectacular ‘one-two punch’ of exceptional golf for our guests.”
While golf is the focal point, Sea Pines features an array of superlative resort offerings including a world-class focus on tennis. The Racquet Club boasts 21 clay courts and is ranked as one of the best in the U.S. Five miles of sweeping Atlantic beaches offer everything from sea-kayaking to fishing to surfing. The enchanted 605-acre Forest Preserve is ideal for horseback riding and hiking.
Its array of luxurious accommodations includes The Inn at Harbour Town - an award-winning 60-room boutique hotel – as well as 300 villas and 100 rental homes.
