Triple Play for Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort in Hilton Head Island, SC

Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island scores a rare three-peat as its George Fazio Course is named South Carolina’s “Course of the Year.” All three Palmetto Dunes courses have now received this prestigious honor

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) — Three-Ball. Hat Trick. Trifecta. No matter what you call it — if it happens in sports, three of almost anything is reason to celebrate.

The Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island, S.C., experienced a three-peat of its own recently when its George Fazio Course was named the 2014 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year, as awarded by the S.C. Board of Directors of the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA).

The association’s criteria include: exceptional quality of the course; exceptional quality of management; outstanding contribution to the community; and significant contribution to the game. Last month, parent company, Greenwood Communities and Resorts, learned that the Fazio Course was awarded “Chapter Course of the Year” by the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association.

The statewide win allows the Fazio Course to compete in the next tier at the national level, which will be announced in October.

The honor also means all three of the Palmetto Dunes golf courses have been named as South Carolina’s Course of the Year.

In 2003, when renovation work by Roger Rulewich was completed on the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, it was named the year’s South Carolina Golf Course of the Year. The Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort takes full advantage of the natural beauty of this South Carolina sea island. It was named the 2009 S.C. Course of the Year.

“It’s certainly a great honor for all three Palmetto Dunes courses to win South Carolina Course of the Year,” said Brad Marra, Vice President of Resort Operations.  “The award-winning George Fazio course embodies the values we cherish at Palmetto Dunes – offering year-round championship golf in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Many golfers regard it, the only par-70 on Hilton Head Island, as the island’s most challenging championship course.”

Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort offers a storied history of unparalleled golf experiences for guests from all corners of the globe. The resort is renowned for the excellent quality of its courses, challenging layouts and commitment to customer service.

In addition, all three golf courses at Palmetto Dunes — each one distinctively different and uniquely appealing — have been rated an outstanding four stars or more by Fodor’s Golf Digest Places to Play. Since the 1970s, Palmetto Dunes has been a prime example of what a longstanding commitment to quality and customer satisfaction can accomplish. Golf has always served as the heart and soul of the Palmetto Dunes experience.
