(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) - There are a lot of golf destinations in the United States but few have the secluded, secure and sensuous feeling of Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. And all of it is wrapped in a picturesque and environmentally sensitive package that is a delight to both golfers and vacationers.
And, in the middle of Hilton Head Island is the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort - one of the finest one-stop-shopping resorts in the country.
While the entire setting of Hilton Head Island has a lot to offer, there is actually no reason to leave Palmetto Dunes - with its three golf courses, amazing beaches, world-class tennis, bike rentals, marina, kayaking, a variety of accommodations with luxurious swimming pools, restaurants and stores.
Traveling Golfer host Tony Leodora takes viewers on a non-stop tour of the resort and the island. In fact, he is the perfect tour guide, since he has been visiting Hilton Head annually for 25 years. He says, "I fell in love with the island the first time I saw it. I've stayed in just about every resort area on the island and Palmetto Dunes is my favorite. It has everything you need and is convenient to the rest of the island."
Of course, the major attraction for the Traveling Golfer is the golf - and Palmetto Dunes boasts some of the best on the island. Three courses - designed by renowned architects Robert Trent Jones, George Fazio and Arthur Hills - provide a variety of quality options. Golf Magazine named Palmetto Dunes one of the Top 75 Golf Resorts in the country. Golf for Women Magazine selected it as one of the 25 Best Family Golf Resorts in America.
"We have one of the most convenient, high-quality setups for a golf vacation anywhere in America," remarks Palmetto Dunes director of golf Clark Sinclair. "Everything is so close to where you stay. The courses provide a variety of styles and, for the most part, are player friendly if golfers select the correct tees. Play them all the way back, and they will challenge even the best golfers."
In fact, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson honed their skills on the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes when both were college stars.
The Palmetto Dunes episode runs throughout the month on The Traveling Golfer Network ... including the new Golf Director network (see full list of sites on www.travelinggolfervideo.com). It also will air on Monday, August 11 as part of the Press Box show in Myrtle Beach, 5 to 7 p.m. on HTC Ch. 4, and as part of the Inside Golf television show on Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia and Comcast SportsNet in Baltimore/Washington at the end of August.
Responding to golfers' never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video golf trips to some of the most exciting golf locations.
The Traveling Golfer appears as a series of monthly shows hosted by Leodora, who has 15 years of experience in televised golf shows. The featured destination stays on the website for one month, before being replaced by a new show. The old shows are archived on the home website, www.travelinggolfervideo.com.
