Internationally Lauded Female Golfer Will Attend Event Next September at the Carolina Country Club
(Raleigh, NC) - The First Tee of the Triangle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to impacting the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf, has announced Annika Sörenstam as a special guest for its upcoming 10th Anniversary Gala, September 20. The gala will be at the Carolina Country Club, located at 2500 Glenwood Ave.
“We are honored and delighted to have Annika attend our inaugural gala,” said Brandon Baker, executive director of The First Tee of the Triangle. “She not only serves as a role model for the children at The First Tee, but she also embodies and believes in our core values that we have established and is a leader of our focus Nine Healthy Habits."
An iconic female golfer, Sörenstam has achieved 89 worldwide victories, including 72 on the LPGA, 10 of which are major championships. Often called “Ms. 59,” she is the only female to break 60 strokes in an official event. Sörenstam is also the first and only female to cross the $20 million mark for LPGA career earnings. She holds the records for Rolex Player of the Year awards (eight) and lowest scoring average in a season (68.6969 in 2004).
Sörenstam temporarily stepped down from competitive golf at the end of the 2008 season to pursue a family, the ANNIKA Foundation and the ANNIKA brand of businesses. She created the ANNIKA Foundation in 2007 to help children live a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition and to offer opportunities to aspiring youth golfers. The foundation recently collaborated with The First Tee and Florida Hospital for Children to develop The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits, a list of nine health and wellness topics to promote healthy, active lifestyles for young people.
