Sweetgrass Golf Club Named “Best Course You Can Play” by Golfweek

(HARRIS, Mich.) – Sweetgrass Golf Club – an amenity of the acclaimed Island Resort and Casino located in the scenic Upper Peninsula – has been rated one of the “Best Courses You Can Play” in Michigan by Golfweek.

“We aim to provide our guests with a first-class golf experience,” says Tony Mancilla, Island Resort and Casino General Manager. “We’re thrilled Golfweek recognizes our commitment to this goal.”

Golfweek deploys more than 700 experienced raters each year to survey thousands of courses based on a variety of categories: holes, strength of conditioning, natural setting, routing, shaping and management.

Named for one of the Potawatomi tribe’s traditional tribal medicines, Sweetgrass earned the No. 13 position out of over 850 courses in golf-rich Michigan. The layout is known for its unique collection of greens (Redan, Biarritz, Island and shared), highlighted by a signature island green on its 15th hole. Its sister course, Sage Run, is scheduled to open in late summer 2017. Both courses were designed by Paul Albanese of the golf course architecture firm Albanese & Lutzke.

Sweetgrass has previously earned best-of honors from GOLF and Golf Digest magazines. The championship course annually hosts a Symetra Tour “Road to the LPGA” event – the Island Resort Championship – welcoming the world’s finest rising-star women players each year since 2011.

To complement its world-class golf, gaming and entertainment, Island Resort & Casino recently opened the luxurious Drift Spa, one of the resort’s many amenities.
