Ryder Cup-style Event Will Feature Local Business Executives Raising Charitable Dollars
(El Macero, CA) – The Ryder Cup, a nearly 100-year old competition between the United States and European golfers has spawned many imitators over the years. But the friendly competition that will be found on the fairways and greens around Sacramento area golf courses has taken the spirit of team play to a whole new level.
The Sacramento Capital Cup is a three-day tournament featuring 24 business executives playing for respective charities in hopes of raising $150,000 after the final putt is sunk. The tournament will feature a Ryder Cup-style format. Each participant will be playing for his or her favorite charity and request donations up to $4,500 after an initial buy-in fee of $2,500 is met. Tournament action will get underway at El Macero Country Club on October 2, followed by play at Winchester Country Club and the final 18 holes of competition at Granite Bay Country Club where the public will be invited to attend and cheer on their favorite golfers and their respective charities. The charity represented by the winning team will split $50,000.
“We are excited to bring together such an influential group of leaders in the spirit of making a difference in the community,” said Curt Rocca, managing partner at DCA, organizers of the event. One of the more interesting features of the Sacramento Capital Cup is that tournament players have the ability to play with mulligans or a replay of a shot during tournament play, up to a maximum of four. For each $2,500 raised for charity, a player may receive one mulligan.
“The Sacramento Capital Cup is a marvelous golf event whose sole purpose is to raise much-needed funds for important charities in our community,” said David Knox, General Manager at El Macero Country Club. “What better way to spend three days on beautiful golf courses than to raise money for those who need help the most. It’s a creative concept based on golf’s most spirited team competition and El Macero CC is truly excited to lead off and be part of this unique and philanthropic event that boosts community pride.”
For the inaugural Sacramento Capital Cup, 24 executive leaders from the local area have been divided into two Capital Cup teams. Teeing off will be the River City Capitals and the Sactown Stix. Donors will also have the opportunity to support their favorite golfer and his or her own charity.
