Disney's Palm Course to host 2015 PGA Junior League Golf Championship

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) - The 2015 PGA Junior League Golf Championship will be hosted Nov. 5-8, at Disney’s Palm Course, located within the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Eight PGA Junior League Golf Teams that advance out of the Regional Championships in September and October will contend for the title. The 10-player teams matching East vs. West regions will compete in a two-person scramble format, with coaches allowed to substitute players every three holes, in order for all team members to participate.

“The PGA of America is excited to bring the PGA Junior League Golf Championship to the Orlando area and collaborate with Walt Disney World Golf, which represents world-class experiences for youth and their families,” said PGA President Derek Sprague. “PGA Junior League Golf’s mission is to connect kids with the game in a fun and recreational environment.”

Recognized as one of America’s premier resort courses, Disney’s Palm Course offers plenty of challenges for the novice and seasoned pro alike. Combining strategically placed palms, 59 bunkers and plenty of water, the natural Florida woodlands setting provides a dramatic backdrop. A Joe Lee masterpiece, redesigned by Arnold Palmer Course Design Company in summer 2013, the Palm features sparkling lakes and tropical sand, all in a gorgeous golf landscape.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting the 2015 PGA Junior League Championship event here at Walt Disney World Resort and wish the very best of luck to all those that will be competing at Disney’s Palm Course come November,” said David Moore, PGA Director of Golf for Disney’s Palm, Magnolia, & Oak Trail Golf Courses. “The PGA Junior League Golf initiative to involve more boys and girls in the game is something that we focus on. We look forward to welcoming them all and having a chance to celebrate their success here at Disney’s Palm Course.”

PGA Junior League Golf is a fun, social and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls ages 13 and under to learn and enjoy the game. Kids play on teams with friends and wear numbered jerseys, learning golf with professional instruction and direction from PGA and LPGA Professionals.

From April to July, kids played regular season matches, then were assembled into 10-player all-star teams comprising of a combination of players in the league. All-star teams competed in sub-regionals for a chance to earn a spot at one of eight regionals (schedule below). Team California captured the Championship in 2014.

Two-time PGA Champion Rory McIlroy joined as an Official Ambassador of PGA Junior League Golf during the 2014 PGA Championship. Michelle Wie was also named an Official Ambassador at the 2015 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

PGA Junior League Golf is one of the game’s fastest growing programs, with teams in all 41 PGA Sections and 48 states. This year, 30,000 boys and girls participated on 2,500 teams nationwide, representing a nearly 100 percent yearly increase over 2013 and 2014.
