Following its success, the Egyptian club is committed to encouraging more participation in golf by hosting similar future events in Cairo

(Madinaty, Cairo, Egypt) – The inaugural Madinaty Golf Club Amateur Open, which took place in the middle of last month in Egypt, has been hailed as a success by tournament organisers. This prestigious new event for golfers in Cairo will now become an annual fixture on the club’s tournament schedule following its warm reception from members and guests. Taking place on the weekend of 11th and 12th of February, the tournament saw 92 players competing over the course of two days.

The property, which is managed and operated under the Troon Golf brand, will now become an iconic home for this new tournament. In the years ahead the tournament will grow in size and stature not just from an organizational perspective but also from a social aspect too, in order to support and boost the wider club community.

Day one of the tournament saw golfers arriving at the course bright and early for registration, breakfast and distribution of Madinaty Golf Club logoed goody bags. There was also a kids’ activation on the Golf Terrace at lunchtime for the families of those playing to enjoy their time too. As players came off the course, they were also able to join their families and enjoy brunch, along with live entertainment.

The final day was another early one, with a 7:30am breakfast, before a 9:30am shotgun start. Once the final golfers returned at 2:30pm, lunch was served with further entertainment on offer, whilst the tournament organisers tallied up the final scores. The tournament winner Anshul Kabthiyal toasting his success by shooting a new course record of three-under-par 68.

Josh North, General Manager of Madinaty Golf Club commented, “It was fantastic to see so many amateur golfers join us for this incredible inaugural event. Creating events like this for local golfers to enjoy is really important for us when it comes to facilitating an engaging environment and experience for golf in the country. The golf course was in excellent condition thanks to our Superintendent Will Righton and his agronomy team, and it was great to hear many players complimenting the golf course throughout the weekend.”

The event also drew some fantastic partners with brands including Lacoste, Kempinski Hotels and Four Seasons hotels all sponsoring the event with prizes.

Madinaty Golf Club, which opened in late 2020, is already playing a very active role in the Egyptian Golf scene, having hosted the prestigious Egyptian Amateur Championship and implemented a fantastic grow the game programme of ‘Girls Go Golf’ bringing over 50 ladies together to introduce them to the game of golf.
