A.J. Avoli also named to Golf Digest’s “Best Young Teachers” List for the fifth time
(Carlsbad, Calif.) – The accolades continue to pour in for Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, Southern California’s premier golf and luxury resort and newly-named host site for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships. The famed resort received two prestigious Golf Digest Editors’ Choice Awards for 2021, being named among the “Best Resorts in the Americas” and the “Best Golf Schools and Academies.”
Launched in 2016, the Editors’ Choice Awards honors the best of the best in the golf industry ranging from golf courses and resorts to products and services. We all want to play the greatest courses and stay in the most luxurious hotels and inns, and when our thoughts drift to where we might travel, we often settle on the legendary destinations with names that are synonymous with the game… Our Editors' Choice awards are intended to get readers to dream big,” reads the Golf Digest article that also awarded Omni La Costa in its esteemed “Best Golf Schools and Academies” category.
Touched by fresh ocean breezes and set within a captivating 400-acre Spanish Mission-style village, Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, is home to 36 holes of award-winning golf on the Champions and Legends Courses along with a host of luxurious recreation and leisure amenities.
“It is an honor to have the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Best Resorts in the Americas along with other acclaimed Omni golf resorts,” said Peter Strebel, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “The experience at Omni La Costa grows richer with the passing of time and many exciting days are ahead. Late last year, it was announced that Omni La Costa Resort & Spa will be the host site for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships. Play will be conducted on the resort’s famed Champions Course following a planned 2022 renovation by acclaimed golf course architect Gil Hanse. The Men’s and Women’s Championships will be contested over consecutive weeks starting in 2024, the first year each culminating national championship will be played in combination at a “truly neutral” site. Plans for Hanse’s bold reimagining of the Champions Course will be revealed in the coming months leading up to the project.
Omni La Costa boasts a full history of stars and professional golf events. In 1965, shortly after La Costa opened, the original Dick Wilson designed course hosted the made-for-TV CBS Golf Classic. The PGA TOUR’s Tournament of Champions (later called the Mercedes Championship and the Sentry Tournament of Champions) was hosted from 1969 until 1998 with a parade of Hall of Famers, including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods further cementing their winning legacies at Omni La Costa. In 1999, the WGC Andersen Consulting World Match Play Championship was played on the original course layout.
