EWGA Championship Sets Field for 17th National Championship

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL) – EWGA (www.ewga.com), the organization enabling current and aspiring business and professional women to connect through golf, welcomes 230 women from nearly every state to Florida for the 17th Annual National Championship, steps away from its international headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens.

The 36-hole EWGA Championship Final, presented by Geico, begins at 7:30 am on Friday at PGA National Resort and Spa, site of the annual PGA Tour Honda Classic.  The field consists of women amateur golfers who are corporate leaders and professional women who advanced beyond 130 local qualifiers and 15 semi-final regional tournaments to advance to the National Championship.

“We are excited to be bringing the championship home to the headquarters of the EWGA in Palm Beach and to see women from chapters across the country come together in the spirit of competition truly solidifies the EWGA’s mission of women advancing their careers and professional life by connecting with like-minded individuals,” says Pam Swensen, CEO/President of the EWGA.  “These women are fierce competitors in both golf and business, so it will be an exciting two days of golf.”

More than 2,400 women participated in the Championship series, which started with individual chapter championships in June, and progressed to semi-final district qualifiers, leading up to the October national championship. Participants play in flights based on skill level determined by their USGA Handicap Index. The Championship consists of two different formats: individual stroke play and team scramble.

Among them is Houston golfer Brenda Daugherty, an entrepreneur who recovered from brain cancer last year and won both her Houston qualifier and Texas semi-final to advance to the national field.  Daugherty, who still sees quadruple most days and has had loss of short-term memory as a result of surgery to remove a brain tumor, will receive a special exemption to use a cart during the tournament.

Also attending the championship is LPGA Tour Pro Michelle McGann who is the EWGA National Ambassador for the Fairway Friends program, designed to provide experienced women golfers a chance to mentor beginners.
