PGA National Resort & Spa Welcomes Huge Crowds for The Honda Classic

Popular PGA TOUR Event Showcases The Champion Course, Warm South Florida Weather

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) – PGA National Resort & Spa – South Florida’s world-class vacation, meetings, wellness and golf destination – welcomed 206,384 spectators, the second-highest total in the tournament’s history, during the recent PGA TOUR’s Honda Classic played on its celebrated Champion Course.

Annually, The Honda Classic kicks off the PGA TOUR’s “Florida Swing.” The popular event showcases the temperate winter weather of South Florida as well as one of the elite layouts in the U.S. as the best players in the world take on the Jack Nicklaus-designed layout with its famous “Bear Trap” as the deciding stretch of holes determining a winner.

With steady play during Sunday’s final round and birdies on holes 15 and 17 on the Bear Trap, South Korea’s Sungjae Im captured his first win as he held off European Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood for the title.

“In our fourteenth year hosting the Honda Classic, we can definitively say the event gets more spectacular each and every year,” says Jeffrey Mayers, managing director. “In 2019, PGA National was voted the most ‘fan friendly’ stop on the PGA TOUR schedule and we look forward to welcoming spectators and our resort guests to enjoy the action for years to come.”

The mighty Champion Course has long been revered as one of the most challenging in the game. Resort guests can take advantage of several exceptional stay-and-play offers including the Gold Golf Package starting at $382 (per person, per night, double occupancy) through April 30 of this year. Taxes and resort fees on all packages are extra.

PGA National is also one of the premier “golf buddy” destinations in the U.S. with everything needed for a getaway to long remember. Every golf group of eight or more players is assigned a dedicated coordinator overseeing everything from tee times, custom logo gifts to post-game refreshments. The full list of extensive group golf services may be found here.

The Gold Golf Package is also just the ticket to combine a golf vacation while enjoying the area’s Major League Baseball spring training as the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals share The Ballpark at Palm Beaches. The nearby Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter serves as the home of the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins.

PGA National additionally features the Leadbetter Golf Academy and David Pelz Scoring Game School for individual instruction and group clinics; Every Ball Counts – the world’s first science-based, statistics-driven training system for golf improvement offered at its off-site Estates Course; and state-of-the-art club fitting with Cool Clubs.

Guests can also enjoy the high-tech 33,000-square-foot Sports & Racquet Club featuring a wide array of fitness activities and classes, including pickleball and tennis on the 18 Har-Tru tennis courts (11 lit for night play). Not to be missed is a visit to The Spa to enjoy its luxurious and soothing wellness treatments. PGA National features exceptional dining options for all tastes including its chef-driven Ironwood Steak & Seafood restaurant.
