Kevin Buggy Begins Term as Western Golf Association Chairman

Buggy succeeds Frank Morley (Glenview, Ill.) after serving as vice chairman for the past two years

               
(GLENVIEW, IL) — Kevin Buggy of Park Ridge, Illinois, is the new chairman of the Western Golf Association and will lead the WGA and Evans Scholars Foundation during a critical period of nationwide growth.

The WGA Board of Governors elected Buggy to serve as the WGA’s 68th chairman at its December meeting. He will succeed Frank Morley of Glenview, Illinois, after serving as vice chairman for the past two years.

“I’m honored by the opportunity to lead the WGA, an organization that has left an unmistakable mark on the game of golf and the lives of countless young men and women,” Buggy said. “Our prestigious championships are second to none, and I’ve seen firsthand how the work of the Evans Scholars Foundation has made a life-changing difference for thousands of caddies and their families.”

Buggy has served in several key leadership roles since becoming a WGA Director in 2008, including three years as co-chair of the Scholarship Committee. Buggy’s two-year term as chairman begins as the Western Golf Association, which conducts national golf championships and oversees the acclaimed Evans Scholars Program, works on developing a long-range plan that will carry the organization through 2030.

One of Buggy’s top priorities will be to continue the coast-to-coast growth that has enabled the Evans Scholars Foundation to use caddying and the Evans Scholarship to reach more young people than ever before.

“The generosity shown by our Alumni and supporters of the Evans Scholars Program has been overwhelming,” Buggy said. “With the cost of college tuition still rising, we have a responsibility to sustain the momentum of the last few years and continue to meet the need for the Evans Scholarship.”

Buggy’s familiarity with the Evans Scholars Program and active involvement will serve him and the organization well during his term, said WGA President and CEO John Kaczkowski.

“Kevin’s passion for our championships and his deep knowledge of the Evans Scholars Program make him the perfect choice to guide the Western Golf Association and Evans Scholars Foundation at this critical time,” Kaczkowski said. “We feel fortunate to have someone so engaged with our mission leading our organization.”

A resident of Park Ridge, Buggy worked for more than 15 years as a trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. He is married to Linda Buggy, and has two children – Jessica, who attends Tulane University, and Connor, who attends Michigan State University.

Buggy holds a B.A. in economics from Villanova University. He is a member of Park Ridge Country Club in Park Ridge, where he has won seven club championships.
