Chapter will strengthen international ties
(Lawrence, Kan.) – The Caribbean Golf Course Superintendents Association has been established as the 100th affiliated chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
Caribbean GCSA is the third international chapter of GCSAA. The Ontario GCSA was one of the original chapters when GCSAA was formed in 1926, and Mexico GCSA was chartered in 2017. In addition, GCSAA has individual members in 98 countries.
The formation of the chapter was the result of efforts by a steering committee who saw the need to bring together GCSAA members from across the region into a formal chapter body. The efforts of the committee culminated with the signing of an affiliation agreement at the 2020 Golf Industry Show in Orlando.
“It seems fitting that during our largest gathering of superintendents at GIS that we welcome the newest international members of the GCSAA family,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “We look forward to serving and improving the professional lives of golf course management professionals across the Caribbean.”
With the establishment of the affiliated chapter, superintendents in the Caribbean will be able to further their professional development, including opportunities to become GCSAA Class A members and certified golf course superintendents.
“We are very fortunate that technology allows us to offer members of our Caribbean chapter many of the same tools and information to advance their careers and facilities as their peers in North America,” 2019 GCSAA President Rafael Barajas, CGCS, said.
