Bobby Weed Golf Design Undertakes Renovation and Repurposing of Greenacres Country Club

(PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida) – Bobby Weed Golf Design (www.bobbyweed.com) is nearing completion of a comprehensive renovation and repurposing project at Greenacres Country Club, in Lawrenceville, NJ. The work includes renovating the golf course and repurposing a portion of the club’s acreage for residential use.

“Greenacres Country Club will be fully updated and competitive in the marketplace, with newfound capital,” said Bobby Weed. “The course will be renovated to meet today’s and tomorrow’s future member expectations and to provide a fun and interesting round of golf.”

The genesis of the project is the creation of a 14-acre infill development parcel identified by Bobby Weed Golf Design. As the result of a multi-million-dollar transaction, a national homebuilder will develop the land with 98 townhome units. Each household will become a new social member of the club, offering an ongoing revenue stream for the club.

In addition to recapitalizing the club’s balance sheet and funding clubhouse upgrades, the land sale will trigger comprehensive improvements to the entire golf course, including seven new holes and a relocated practice area. The golf course will reopen in late spring 2018.

Established in 1938, Greenacres, just minutes from Princeton, NJ, is a private full-service club featuring an 18-hole golf course, which originally was designed by Devereaux Emmet and was redesigned by George Fazio, in 1971.

Bobby Weed Golf Design was selected for the innovative project due to the firm’s unique expertise in both golf course design and land development.

“The repurposing of Greenacres is an important precedent for any forward-minded club seeking to recapitalize, upgrade its facilities and maintain ownership,” said Chris Monti, senior design associate at Bobby Weed Golf Design.

Total Turf Golf Services, from Philadelphia, is the golf course contractor, and George Ley Company is the irrigation contractor.
