Popular Aussie is Also World-Renowned Golf Trick Shot Artist
(PHOENIX, Ariz.) – There isn’t too much Craig Hocknull cannot do on a golf course. From dazzling audiences with awe-inspiring shots of wizardry at his ever-popular golf trick shot shows to battling some of the Southwest’s top competitors in local PGA of America golf events, Hocknull is truly one of the sport’s most unique and talented players. As one of the few players in the history of the game to go from a full time teaching pro to a full time touring pro on the Web.com tour, his knowledge of how to play and teach the game is clearly at the expert level.
The 2014 Southwest Section – PGA of America Teacher of the Year and owner of the Outback Golf Academy in Gilbert was recently named Director of Instruction at one of the Valley’s leading private golf clubs, The Silverleaf Club in Scottsdale.
“What a great honor it is for me to work with one of America’s leading golf clubs,” said Hocknull. “It’s not often you receive this kind of professional opportunity to help members and their guests with their golf games at a spectacular property like Silverleaf, but also to work with a great organization like DMB.”
Hocknull’s teaching career started at the Yuma Golf and Country Club and then wound his way throughout Arizona with stops at The Nike Golf Learning Center at Kokopelli, The Golf Academy of America, Resort Golf Schools at Gold Canyon, Hot Stix Golf, Dobson Ranch, Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, Western Skies Golf Club and Desert Forest Golf Club. Hocknull has active PGA memberships in his home country of Australia along with the PGA in Canada and is also advanced certified by the PGA of America in teaching and coaching. Throw in his unforgettable performances as a trick shot artist with his Outback Golf Trick Shot Show and you may have the most entertaining golf professional in the world.
Hocknull recently spent the summer teaching at another DMB property, Glenwild Golf & Country Club in Park City, Utah and will now move on to Silverleaf starting on October 19. “Craig’s total approach to teaching is first-class and his ability to interact with golfers of all ages and abilities is especially impressive. We are very fortunate to have a player of his caliber assisting our members at Silverleaf,” said David O’Donoghue, General Manager of The Silverleaf Club.
Hocknull is a total game golf coach and works with his players on their mental golf IQ, physical fitness, technical refinement and equipment optimization. A 1997 graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, Hocknull earned the school’s coveted Walter Payton Award, named in honor of the late NFL Hall of Famer. Payton’s brother, Eddie is the golf coach at Jackson State.
