Colonial Williamsburg Third Annual Taste Tradition + Classic Golf
(Williamsburg, Va.) – Colonial Williamsburg’s third annual Taste Tradition weekend presents the finest food, vintage wines, craft beers and spirited cocktails, farm-raised meats, seafood from local waters and herbs and vegetables straight from the gardens in the Historic Area, Sept. 4-6.
With more than a dozen special events from which to select, there is plenty of time to work in a round or two of golf on Golden Horseshoe Gold, Green and Spotswood Courses between flights of food and drink.
The Local Palate, the South’s premiere food culture publication, hosts a “Brew ‘N’ Cue Showdown” open exclusively to guests staying on Colonial Williamsburg’s Taste Tradition hotel package. Southern pit masters from four states join Colonial Williamsburg chefs for the ultimate barbecue cook-off – and the guests help determine the winners in three categories: best barbecue, best beer and best chef creation dish.
Golden Horseshoe’s classic Gold Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. more than 50 years ago, is steps away from the culinary happenings. The adjacent Green Course, designed by his son Rees Jones 25 years ago, represent the first father-son layout in the country. Jones Senior also designed the popular executive length Spotswood Course.
The Golden Horseshoe is set in a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary on gently rolling terrain surrounded by Virginia hardwoods and no encroaching residential development. Revenue from golf play on the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s three public courses supports the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s conservation, preservation, research and education initiatives.
The Taste Tradition two-night hotel package starts at $152 per person per night and includes accommodations at the Williamsburg Lodge, a special gift from Colonial Williamsburg chefs, tickets to two events open exclusively to Taste Tradition hotel package guests – a welcome reception featuring a taste of Spain with tapas and wine, and tickets to the Brew ‘N’ Cue Showdown. Green fees are additional.
