(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.) – Linda Hartough, world-renowned golf-landscape artist (www.hartough.com), has introduced a new painting she recently completed of the famed “Road Hole,” the 17th Hole of the Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. A canvas giclée print of the painting will hang in an exhibit in the Old Course Hotel during this year’s Open Championship in St Andrews. The exhibit is being presented in conjunction with the release of the book Links to St Andrews by Joshua Evanson.
“I first painted the Road Hole in 1990, the start of the official Open Championship Series commissioned by the R&A,” Hartough said. “In 2009, I did a very small painting of the Road Hole in the dawn light. So this time I wanted to create another definitive image of this famous hole that would be a new look at a scene that is familiar to most golfers around the world.”
The new painting captures the memorable scene in springtime, with clear light and a dramatic sky behind the brilliantly-lit old town of St Andrews. The gorse, broom and wild flowers are in full bloom.
The painting is offered in both canvas and fine art paper giclée limited editions. The fine art paper is a new Hartough offering, featuring a better print than the offset lithographs, as the color is more true to the original oil painting. The Remarque drawing in the lower border is the famous Swilcan Bridge, looking toward the 1st Hole green with the new clubhouse beyond. The canvas giclées are the same fine reproductions that have been offered for years. The “Grande Edition” canvas prints (36” x 60”) recreate the same scale as if the viewer were standing in front of the actual scene.
