(POUND RIDGE, N.Y.) – Pound Ridge Golf Club – legendary Pete Dye’s extraordinary public golf experience in Westchester County – will be hosting the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) Public Links Championship on June 17.
Originally scheduled for last June, but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament will mark the 73rd rendition of the prestigious MGA event which is the oldest public golf course championship in the U.S. Making its MGA debut, Pound Ridge joins a roster of highly acclaimed area layouts as previous hosts including Bethpage Black, host venue of numerous major golf championships as well as an upcoming Ryder Cup.
“Our course is in superb condition for the MGA’s Public Links Championship and it will be fun to watch many of the region’s best amateur players match wits against the brilliance of Pete Dye,” says Darren Wang, managing partner of Pound Ridge Golf Club. “The beauty of Mr. Dye’s incredible legacy of creativity allows players from low- to high-handicaps and all abilities to visit us and enjoy a pure golf experience to long savor.”
This is a banner year for Pete Dye-designed layouts holding big events with the recently completed 2021 PGA Championship won by Phil Mickelson contested on his celebrated Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort and the upcoming Ryder Cup taking place on the heralded Straits Course at Whistling Straits on the scenic shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.
Ranked No. 6 in Golfweek’s recently-released “Best Courses You Can Play in New York,” Pound Ridge is Dye’s only design in the golf-rich Empire State. Less than an hour drive from New York City and minutes from White Plains, Greenwich, Stamford and Norwalk (Conn.), the World Golf Hall of Famer’s admired layout has become one of the celebrated “must-play” public courses in the region.
Pound Ridge is carved from 172 acres of beautiful countryside – including dramatic cliffs, streams and wooded, rolling hills into a fun and challenging par-72 course. The course features five sets of tees ranging from 5,151 to 7,165 yards providing challenges and fun for golfers of all skill levels. Among its unforgettable holes is the dramatic par-5 13th which is home to “Pete’s Rock,” a giant boulder that rests in the middle of the fairway.
