Honor Comes in Golfweek’s 2013 Municipal Courses Rankings
(Laredo, TX) — The Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course, designed by world-renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr., has earned a significant accolade. The course is rated for the first time by a national authority, Golfweek magazine. The publication just released its 2013 listing of the Best Municipal Courses in the U.S. and The Max made its debut at No. 40 in this prestigious ranking. There are more than 2,000 municipal golf courses in the nation and only four other Texas courses made the list.
“This is such a notable achievement for The Max and the City of Laredo,” said Horacio De Leon, Jr., Assistant City Manager, City of Laredo, Texas. “To be recognized by Golfweek as one of the top 50 municipal courses in the country is rewarding for everyone who has been involved with The Max. For such a young course, open only for several months, we are quickly earning major recognition as one of the finest public access courses in South Texas. The City of Laredo thanks Golfweek for this tremendous honor.”
The challenging par-72 course sits on 270 acres along the Rio Grande and it caters to golfers of all ability levels, with five sets of tees available and yardages ranging from 7,069 from the back tees to 4,759 for the forward tees. A provision has been made for competitive tournament tees to be extended to 7,297 yards, and a dedicated “juniors” teeing area on each hole is incorporated to increase enjoyment for family play.
Last month, The Max was featured in GOLF Magazine and the course was praised for its exceptional value for such a quality experience. For tee times or additional information about The Max, call (956) 726-2000 or visit www.themaxlaredo.com.
