(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Cleveland Golf/Srixon congratulates staffer Graeme McDowell for his 2 & 1 victory in the finals of the 48th Volvo World Match Play Championship in Kavarna, Bulgaria. McDowell, playing from behind most of the day, wrestled back control of the match when he hit his approach to within six feet on the 15th hole and went on to make his third birdie of the round, putting him two up with three holes to play. The Northern Irishman’s victory at the event earned him just over $1 million.
“I’ve been in control of my emotions most of the week,” McDowell said. “This golf course, the second I saw it I knew it felt like it suited my type of game. It requires accuracy off the tee. I work my driver from left to right and that suits the finishing stretch because that land sits from right to left.”
McDowell’s victory at Thracian Cliffs marked his second win in his last three starts, having also won last month at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, SC. The win elevated him to Number Seven in this week’s Official World Golf Rankings, as well as Number One in the European Tour’s “Race to Dubai,” having earned €1,029,186 in only four events this year.
McDowell played a Cleveland Classic driver (9°- Miyazaki Kusala Indigo 56X), a Cleveland Launcher FL fairway wood (14°- Miyazaki Kusala Indigo 72X), a XXIO wood (18° Miyazaki Kusala Indigo 72X), a Cleveland 588® TT (4) iron, Srixon Z-TX irons (5-9), Cleveland 588 Precision Forged wedges (48°/52°), and a Cleveland 588 RTX wedge (58°), while using a new Srixon Z-STAR XV prototype ball. McDowell also wears a Srixon hat, a Srixon glove and carries a Srixon bag.
