Colonial Williamsburg Hosts 14th Millenium Golf Classic on Historic Golden Horseshoe Golf Courses

(WILLIAMSBURG, Va.) – Colonial Williamsburg’s Golden Horseshoe Golf Club will host its 14th Millennium Golf Classic at the historic Gold and Green Courses, January 4 – 5, 2014.

The Gold Course, built by master golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., opened in 1963 and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.  It continues to win raves and collect honors and is included on Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 You Can Play” list of public-access courses.  The layout’s four heralded par-3 holes – the 3rd, 7th, 12th and 16th – prompted one golf scribe to write, “If there is a stronger set of par-3s than those on the Gold Course, it’s not on this planet.”  It’s likely that the Millennium Golf Classic could be decided on one of these par-3 holes.  The Green Course, designed in 1998 by Jones’ son Rees, has played host to several national championships.

The Golf Classic began with the millennium and remains a popular annual tradition at the renowned Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.  The 36-hole tournament features teams of two amateur golfers.  Saturday's format will be captain's choice; Sunday's will be four-ball (two person, best ball).

The entry fee of $420 per two-person team includes one practice round, two tournament rounds, golf cart during tournament rounds, practice balls prior to tournament rounds, tee gift, continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, Saturday evening buffet dinner, and awards presentation.

Golfers may request entry forms at or by calling 1-800-648-6653 or (757) 220-7696. Registration ends December 31, 2013.

Special room rates are available at Colonial Williamsburg’s official hotels – the Williamsburg Inn, Williamsburg Lodge, Colonial Houses, Woodlands Hotel & Suites, and Governor’s Inn.  Room reservations may be made by calling 1-800-261-9530 and requesting the special rate for Millennium Classic participants.
