Historic Club on strong path for the future generation of members
(NORTHBROOK, Ill.) – KemperSports has been retained to manage the Mahopac Golf and Beach Club in Mahopac, NY. Located just 55 miles north of New York City in Putnam County, the club has a rich history of more than 100 years of exceptional club experiences for its members.
The course, which dates back to 1893 when famed architect Tom Bendelow designed the first 6-hole routing on the east shore of Lake Mahopac, enjoys a reputation as one of the top courses in the region. After the popularity of the original routing, the club moved to its current location in 1900 and introduced the 18-hole Devereux Emmet-designed course in 1913. Emmet gained national acclaim for his designs at Congressional Country Club (Bethesda, Md.) and Garden City Golf Club (Garden City, NY.) – which currently ranks No. 26 on GOLF Magazine’s list of Top 100 Courses in the U.S.
The beautiful and dynamic par-70, 6,523-yard golf course routes through tree-lined fairways with strategically-placed bunkers. The historic layout prides itself on challenging the low handicap golfers while also remaining playable for beginning golfers. The course also includes a practice facility with grassed tees, chipping practice green and large practice green that emulates putts that will be seen on the 18-hole course.
In addition to golf, the club includes a beach club along the sandy beach on Lake Mahopac as well as easy lake access for boating and fishing.
The full-service clubhouse includes multiple dining options, including a ballroom with seating for up to 120 guests – making it an ideal destination for weddings, banquets and golf outings.
“KemperSports is the right partner to lead our club in to the next generation,” said Vinnie Vesce, President of the Club’s Board of Directors. “Their experience in managing premier private clubs across the country will be a huge asset to the operations at Mahopac Golf and Beach Club.”
“Mahopac Golf and Beach Club is widely recognized as one of the top private club in the region,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We look forward to working with membership to enhance their experience and ensure the long-term health of the club.”
